I think if you combine the best tracks off "Still Cruisin'" with the best ones off "Summer in Paradise", you have yourself a pretty solid final Beach Boys record. Call it "Cruisin' in Paradise".
This album isn't that bad? It has a summery, beach boy feel to it, like they set out to do. Plus, It was the 90's, they're not going to spend 30 years doing the same stuff ? This song has alot of nostalgia to it, i like it
I like the album more now than when I first boyght it . For me there are four really strong songs.....plus some really great CDW singing! Easy to be a critic but more fun to hear from true fans.... John Hunter Phillips is among the very best of fans (plus does some great music!) keep it up JHP!
I love the group but this neeeded to be produced better. I love the thought of Summer In Pardise but they needed to work on it abit more as some of the re-mixes prove.
Co-writer and producer Terry Melcher was the son of Doris Day. He passed away in 2004 after a long battle with melanoma. In the early sixtie's he and Beach Boy to be Bruce Johnston formed "Bruce and Terry" and, soon after, the Rip Chord's. Nice song and great post. sbhpoker!
@dumbangel75 Hey, at least M.I.U. had some catchy songs and real playing. I don't mind M.I.U. or L.A. as long as I know what I'm getting into: pretty shiny, upbeat stuff on MIU and pretty mellow stuff on LA. Not genius, but the songs are generally good and enjoyable. This isn't even listenable.
@sonicdeath10 You're right, M.I.U. is generally considered one of their weaker efforts but it has some great material, and it has Dennis and Brian so for that reason alone it's much better than SIP
Had Mike and Terry been able to pull this album off in 1989 and included Kokamo, then you may have had a hit record. Not a classic, but a nice catchy one. But I think that this album suffers from the same thing that Imaginations does. A good album ruined by horrible production. Brian Wilson has proven over the last 10 years that he is still a good producer (That Lucky Old Sun)
Awesome song. And I am a die hard Beach Boys fan who owns everything. I will not drink the Kool Aid and trash this effort. Mike and Terry succeeded in what they set out to accomplish...feel good summer songs.
@andy3576 I so hear you!! I too am a die hard Beach Boys fan!! Have every single record they put out!!! This is one of my favorite albums!! Carl's voice is so strong and beautiful on this album!!
@andy3576 TOO RIGHT! There are some really good songs and covers on this album. They're not All winners, but there have always been a few bad ones on some otherwise great albums.
I actually like this song, but I feel like I have been dumbed down over the years to accept this as a good Beach Boys song. It certainly is no Warmth of the Sun.
I know I'm swimming against the tide here, but this album isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It isn't their best effort by a long shot, but it's certainly better than many others. Listen to MIU (if you can stand it) and you'll see what I mean. Great album art on this one.
"Maybe the Beach Boys have got you now .. with those waves, singin' Caroline .. Oh Caroline No .. Rollin' down that empty ocean road .. Get into the Surf On Time .." - from "Long May You Run", by Neil Young. I agree with you, ascrodin, "Still Surfin'" I think is probably the stand-out track on this 1992 BB album. It ably links the the past ("Did you ever wonder what happened to Surfer Joe ..?") with the current day (1992) environment - where the old 60's surfers are still surfin' ..

Listening to this passively, it sounds nice, a bit loungey, just regular pop.
But when I pay attention it just sounds so plastic and constructed that it actually depresses me... I can see why it's hated..

I love this song, it reminds me of the old Beach Boys style. This is an instant classic.

Terry was a very nice guy, I met only once. We were at Mike Love's wedding in Lake Tahoe with his family. This song has perfect harmony. jhp

i think modern music ruined the beach boys
i like their oldies
sad to see the beach boys change
this album also seems depressing compared to previous songs

This album is so tough to find. Not that there's too much interest on my part since Brian isnt a part of it and Stamos is.

And this is one of the more tolerable songs from the album!

Why wasnt Brian on this album? Was this recorded while he was still with Landy?
Landrew120880 3 years ago
Thank God Brian was wise enough to get so far away as he could get from this album...., Landy or not....
