  • Who is that drummer? Nice snare sound.

  • It's revved up like a douche, like the car.

    Oh who am I kidding.

  • sounds like wrapped up like a douche to me, i'm gonna go with it

  • a un éternel amour

  • Yer wrapped up like a douche !!!

  • Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce another runner in the night.

  • The line is "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a deuce, another runner in the night"

  • In the Springsteen original it was "cut loose like a deuce" so make of that what you will.

  • @genobeeno They changed several lines in the song...

  • 47 people were blinded by the light.

  • a boner on my sholder felling kinda horny

  • wrapped up like a douche in the boner in the light

  • Silicone Sister: Chick with implants

Revved up like a deuce: Coked out and ready for anything

Another runner in the night: Just another party-er in the 70s

Blinded by the light: Distracted by glamour and not realizing the situation

The calliope crashed to the ground: She OD'd and fell out but woke up and made it through the night.

In the original version she dies and gets buried out in the desert.

  • Urban dictionary: True lyric is "revved up like a duece, another runner in the night", song is "Blinded by the Light" by Bruce Springsteen. also commonly mistaken as:Wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night

Wrapped up like a douche, another rubber in the night Wrapped up like a douche, another boner in the night Wrapped up like a douche, an utter rotor in the night wrapped up like a douche, you know the rotor in the night /watch?v=C26iKtPYrcc

  • I dont think they evn douched in the 70s so it probably wasnt a widely used word as it is now. But it sounds better as a lyric.

  • @ismaylizard79 A deuce is a vehicle... Douche is not part of the song. O_o

  • best song ever

  • bruce's version was "revved up like a duece"... this is "wrapped up like a douche"... i like this version better :)

  • @Jimihendrixizgod its not wrapped up like a douche you douch

  • Bandanas were the first head bands.

  • it's revved up like a duece

  • I love this song and also "seasons in the sky" by Terry jacks & all of Neil Sedaka's songs

  • @TheDancerQueen101 It's 'Seasons in the sun'!

  • Great guitar skills.

  • what he actually says is "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night"

  • I believe it says, "Blinded by the light, I dropped a deuce into a toilet that is white."

  • Revved up like a deuce (deuce meaning motorcycle, i.e. two wheels). Duh. Get your 70s on.

  • @arfinwulf had nothing to do with motorcycles get your late 60's early 70's on . Deuce Coupe like the beach boys little Deuce Coupe a deuce was a 32 ford coupe muscle car, a hot rod, It was called a deuce because most of the style came from the 32 ford coupe ( hence deuce from the year) lol love people who are completely wrong with their Duhs

  • this dude went to Barry Gibb's hair & beard guy !

p.s. gave my anus curtly wurly???

  • 46 people are wrapped up like a douche

  • Wrapped up like a douche makes more sense!!!

  • When Springsteen recorded it, it was "wrapped up like a deuce..." Never any kind of a hit until Manfred Mann recorded it and changed it to "douche".

  • Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

  • What - its not wrapped up like a douche

  • I thought he said "wake up like a douche in the middle of the night"

  • Manfred Mann is NOT the singer, he's the bloke with spex playing keyboards

  • this song is 13 years older than me and even i know how badass it is

  • Who can sing live that well these days? *live*?

  • I always thought it was "Wrapped up like a douche"

  • blinded by tha light wrapped up like a douche with rubber in the night

  • IT'S NOT REAL BUT VERY MUCH REAL;-)

  • 46 IDIOTS DID'NT LIKE THIS MUSIC, MMEB IS ONE OF GREAT ROCK BAND FOR DECADES.....

  • I cant understand the fuss or comparisons . Manfredd Mann in any form earth band or not go down in the annals of modern pop culture . This song is genuis , as was the parade of hits they had the entire decade befoe . Long after we are gone and squabbling these classics will live on . The 60s was the decade of the British and Motown and thank god for that .

  • karate drummer

  • Great classic from the 70's, it's the intriguing lyrics of this song which made this song unique. As teenagers back then -we would play this song, get a little high and try to figure out what the lyrics were. Some 30 years later-it is still amazing. This was a great cover of Springsteen-liked it even better-Those were the Glory Days!

  • I like "wrapped up like a douche" better.

  • hm naja ich geh ab

  • Springsteen, in his 2005 VH1 Storytellers appearance, lightheartedly made the assertion that the sole reason that Manfred Mann's version of the song went to number one is that the altered lyric is actually "revved up like a douche". Bruce said, "The original lyric is 'cut loose like a deuce' referring to a two seat hot-rod, a little deuce coupe. Manfred Mann changed the lyric to 'revved up like a douche', which is a feminine hygienic procedure.... so, they're different."

  • To this day this is the only Bruce Springsteen song to hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts -- even if it is a cover song.

  • 46 were blinded by the light!

i couln't help it, i had to comment once

    for the dislike button lol

  • This is music of my youth, I love it so much!!!!! Especially this song...it's best of the best!!! I Love Uriah Heep, this is really legendary group!!!

  • To think this was originally a Bruce Springsteen song...

  • oh this is awesome!

  • This was before Blow made this song known...

  • @joeboi85 Don't look now, but life was going on befoore you were born, kid.

  • Little did Bruce know that his lyrics would one day become a fixture in the urban dictionary. lol

  • This song is like Procol Harums Whiter shade of pale... Everyone thinks they know what it means and they seem to lose out on the sheer brilliance that was music in the best era ever for song writing... I'm saddened by the state of todays music industry... there is absolutely very little creativity or talent and what little there is has been destroyed by pirating on the internet. Why produce if it's just going to be stolen...

  • @tubedude54 I absolutely agree with you tubedude. I think the days of artists making money from record sales have completely deminished thanks to the introduction of the myriad of ways to record music for free. It makes it difficult to here new innovative artists break out. This is probably why concert tickets cost so much these days. In 1977, I saw Led Zeppelin for nine bucks. I saw U2 in Dublin last year (2009) and those 2 tickets cost me hudreds of dollars, not to mention air and hotel.

  • @tubedude54 Actually, the guy who wrote this almost 40 years ago is still going strong. There's at least one person still writing and performing great music frtom that era. Great music, the *greatest* of the great - I'm not sure this is it - in a hundred years will be remembered like Pacabel's Canon (1699). No one remembers who performs it. They only remember Pacabel.

  • I remember this song in the 70's when I was a kid I bought the record =)

  • Remember all those hours studying Shakespeare in High School and trying to make sense of it? Why not have schools set up a course on deciphering the lyrics of Blinded by the Light by Bruce Springsteen and identifying all the wrong pronounciations of lyrics by Manfred Mann in thier version?

  • I don't care if he recorded it first. the Springsteen version is horrible and was so bad it was never released as a single. His version is terrible.

  • Cool song, great band !

  • This version puts Springsteen's original to shame.

  • sounds like he's playing "Chopsticks" at the very beginning.

  • Nice composition of The Boss: Bruce Springsteen. Cheers!

  • great song

  • This is one asskickin song love it love it love it!!!!!

  • great stoned song

  • Steve Waller was a good friend of my parents and I'm named after him. RIP

Juni-!!

  • saw them at reading festival in 1976 or 1977 memory fades. recall big rain and mud but the manfred played on and well all got weter.

  • epic

  • Great underrated band and awesome song.

  • My born year is 91 but the old songs rock like hell =D

  • That guitar solo felt like an acid trip!

  • the synths back then would have been wow.

  • great ...like this more than the original.

  • what is it with youtube posters and their inability to think outside the looks like box? so much for substance. the human race is doomed.

  • Manfred is not singing the lead. It's Chris Thompson.

  • love the piano.

  • one of the greatest rock n roll songs ever...... rock on

  • I want his hat...

  • If you want to know what the lyrics are, listen to the album " Greetings From Asbury Park" by Bruce Springsteen, he actually wrote this song

  • written by springsteen

  • Back when I was young I would scoff indignantly at my parents when they would complain that "I can't understand what they're saying". Of course I couldn't admit that, in many cases, I couldn't either.......Ahhh, to be young and dumb again.

  • @cw1980cw what would you know

  • Looks like Johnny Depp with facial hair

  • Mannfred Mann needs to work on his pronunciation.

Only a few seconds ago I learned what the words were. "Revved up like a deuce".

Until then, all I heard was "wrapped up like a douche".

  • @1000Demons

oooh... i thought "wake up to seduce you..."

  • @1000Demons Damn! I thought the same thing. Also, I heard that this song is about a UFO experience he had.

  • @Mufaso1000 Except Bruce Springsteen is the one who wrote it.

  • @glstrojan I didn't know that! Maybe The Boss had a UFO experience. Interesting.

  • @1000Demons

I've always heard "douche" in this song too, but knew that couldn't be right. Then I thought maybe he was saying "revved up like the Dukes" (as in Dukes of Hazzard).

  • @1000Demons hahahaha i thought the same :D

  • @1000Demons

Not Manfred Mann needs to work on it, but Chris Thompson...

  • @1000Demons

    The singer's name is Chris Thompson. C H R I S T H O M P S O N !

  • @1000Demons Mann wasn't the singer, he's the keyboard player. Springsteen on the original pronounces it like "douche" so they probably thought that's what it was supposed to be.

  • @1000Demons Manfred Mann is the organist, not the singer.

  • @1000Demons

you really are right ^^ he should work on his pronunciation

  • @1000Demons The lead singer is not Manfred Mann but Chris Thompson. Manfred Mann is the keyboard player, and he only sings at the end of the song in counterpoint to Chris Thompson. I will grant you the "wrapped up" - that was also what I thought I heard when this song made #1 in 1977 - but not the "douche". "Douche" and "douchebag" are slangs which have only been introduced in the English language in more recent times.

  • @AragornCF Saturday Night Live used "Lord and Lady Douchebag" in a skit in 1979.

  • @1000Demons Manfred Mann is the organ grinder; the singer is Chris Thompson.

  • @1000Demons

    No.

They changed it to revved up like douche.

  • @1000Demons you need to work on your ears, most rock singers have shitty pronunciation cause they've never taken a music lesson in their life, they just have great voices - learn to hear...

  • @1000Demons To be fair, on "Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ" it sounds like Bruce is saying "douche", also.

Also in the interest of fairness, Manfred Mann should have expanded on a talent he had to make new songs of his own, rather than cranking out crap like this that takes great songs and rips them off to score brief airplay.

This song, and "Spirit in the Night", and "For You" (with it's cowardly lyrics switch)

totally ruined Manfred Mann for me.

    Has-beens now. Nothing more.

  • To: @kosherspeare Oh my god but you are a deluded goofball! LOL So you think that Manfred Mann got "brief air time" with this song. It's been THIRTY FIVE YEARS!!! and they are still playing his version on the radio. You call that brief?

And I got news for ya, dude, He isn't a "has been" until they stop playing it, and something tells me this song will out live you.

  • @JeniDiver Whoa, little twitch!!! Don't get your Jonas Brothers panties all twisted up in your crack!

I said Manfred Mann had talent. I also said he should have explored it instead of sucking like a tick on the wave of someone who had just become a sensation. There is NO WAY you could tell me a well known Manfred Mann song other than "Quinn the Eskimo" or "Doo Wah Diddy" without Googling it. So stop pretending.

And I'm not your "dude", you MTV-bred zombie.

  • @kosherspeare *sigh* I suppose you expect me to be traumatized into silence by your remark about my panties.

Are you that upset that by whim of chance Manfred Mann's version was a hit and Springsteen's was not? It's time to get over it. BTW - there isn't a singer anywhere who has not sang verse written by others. You MUST be aware of that.

Why Mann, his band, his promoter, et al made the artistic choices they made years ago is anybody's guess. "Ripping Off" is not even on the list.

  • @JeniDiver Are you "challenged" in some way? I don't want to argue with a retard.

I have no problem with Mann's success. I'm saying Springsteen's versions are better. Springsteen doesn't have a #1 hit. But he's an icon long after Mann has become a club act. Yeah, everybody covers songs. I. Don't. Care.

You know nothing about music. You just think supporting someone you're attracted to is cool.

If you grow up (beyond your David Cassidy posters), and have a real argument, post it.

  • It's not "wrapped up like a douche"? Rats! I used to sink that to my kids.

  • @Not4saleronpaul

wow once you know it's revved up like a deuce another runner in the night - you can really hear it! I had it wrong all these years

  • @1000Demons mannfred mann was saying wrapped up like a douche. he had the words wrong. he used to say another boner in the night (in 1975)

  • @thewhochilipeppersU2

To be honest: I do not hear a word Manfred Mann says or sings at all, for Chris Thompson is the singer of the band at that time...

  • k i dont listen to them really it was only because i wanted to hear their cover i dont know anything about them or who they are

  • @1000Demons Back in 1976 I always heard "revved up like a deuce." Best song ever for throwing plaster out your window in NYC when exposing brick walls.

  • @1000Demons me too demons, but he's british, so u know how they talk, and pronounce their words.

  • @1000Demons haha ditto!

  • @1000Demons

Of course he's singing "wrapped up like a douche". Don't believe in rumours.. :DDDDD

  • @1000Demons me to lol

  • @1000Demons When I was a kid I always thought he said "Wrap her up like a douche" lol

  • @1000Demons haha so did i

  • Wrapped up like a Douche!!!

  • its revved up like a duece

  • Ok, i was only kidding....

  • The lyrics are not meaningless, they are just symbolic and figurative!!

    Incendiary! Love it.

  • Bruce Springsteen actually wrote the song and you can actually understand what he's saying in his version.

  • Yep good idea!

  • revved up like a deuce another runner in the night

  • Comment removed

  • Actually written by Bruce Springsteen

  • im tellin you. these crazy bastards made the lyrics to this song so confusing just so that 34 yrs later or so we'd be having conversations about the lyrics. let it go, no one really knows what they are. great song though

  • what does he say after " blinded by the light "

  • i remember fishing on the River Severn back in the mid-70s and this came on the radio... it was .a summers evening and a happy time to be alive

  • For good old times sake...i was 9 years old back then!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • ill always prefer this version of the song because of that fucking intro. its perfect.

  • Brilliant!

I long for the days when the audience listens. Today's audiences act like they're in some Karaoke bar.

  • perfect! :D

  • get the lowdown on the lyrics from the horse's mouth..watch bruce springsteen on vhs storytellers talk about writing this song..for bruce fans his version will always be better, but manfred mann had a big hit, even though they sang douche instead of deuce , not being from a 'car culture'. it gave bruce laugh and m.mann a number 1.

  • Your a FUCKEN IDIOT,He Says Deuce,You FUCKEN DICKHEAD,it`s just a different accent. What, you dont think that this band would not find out the real LYRICS Before SINGING them.

    DOUCHE==,FUCKHEAD==You

By the way Bruce`s version is Shit, that is why Mannfred Mann went higher up the charts.

P.S. Your comments are still CRAP.

  • @holitipu your a fuckin retard..seriously..he clearly says deuce not douche you ignorant piece of shit..unless of course your talking about yourself..in that case yea douche

  • @waytoomany10 calm down. i'm only relaying the way bruce told the story, and he found it funny, stop getting your knickers in a twist.

  • saw them in Pittsburgh in 77 when the did this song, at the drum crash, they set off 4 hugh flash boxes on stage and killed the house lights, blinding the entire audience, it was freaking insane

  • i know this is there song but they fucking nailed this live.

  • Opening keyboard section stolen for "Elvis Ain't Dead" ;)

  • you must be pretty stupid and or joking

  • @obey52 I'm both intelligent and musical so either you must be deaf, stupid or misreading my statement. You reread, listen to first few seconds of this, and Elvis Ain't Dead THEN tell me Scouting For Girls didn't receive at least a LITTLE inspiration from this.....

  • oh yes misread "for" for from

  • @obey52 =_=" Well done... I was PRETTY sure that's what you did... I think your original comment applied to itself ironically.... Meh. Life goes on. Love this song btw :P

  • the drummer here is Geoff Britton who had just left Paul McCartney & Wings only recording " Juniors Farm" w/ Wings

  • "Little early birdy gave my anus curly whirly".

    2:11

    That is what I hear.

  • And asked me if I needed a ride...:)

  • lmao

  • I think its little early birdy came by in his curly whirly

  • It's actually: "And little Early Pearly came by in his curly wurly..."

  • I know.

  • Its: "little Early-birdy came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride" ...curly-wurly referring to a Cadillac. moron

  • Wow. Have you just now caught on to the at least decade old trend of misheard lyrics in this song or are you legitimately fucking retarded?

I applaud you on actually being slightly more oblivious to any intelligent or rational thoughts than anyone else here. Congratulations, fucking moron.

I'd give you a high five but if your hygiene is anything else like your personality, I'm gonna pass.

  • One last thing. Congratulations, as well, for baring arms and getting on the front-line to defend Manfred Mann's Earth Band...fucking loser.

  • It's actually: "And little Early Pearly came by in his curly wurly and asked me if I needed a

    ride"

  • I know.

  • It's actually: "And little Early Pearly came by in his curly wurly and asked me if I needed a ride." Your ears are wrong.

  • I know.

  • lmao at COMPLETE rewed up like a douche lol its okay we all have that moment still made me laugh though

  • revvvvedd up like a dooshhHH-AHhh...
