  • "Darcy Farrow," a folk song written by Steve Gillette and Tom Campbell, mentions Yerington, Nevada ("Her eyes shone bright like the pretty lights / That shine in the night out of Yerington town," and other landmarks in the area, including Virginia City, the Carson Valley, and the Truckee River. Critics have noted the geographical inaccuracy in the line "The Walker runs down to the Carson Valley plain." performed by John Denver and recorded on his multi-platinum album Rocky Mountain High

  • if you all wish to hear perfection again...go to the Corries flok group with Paddie Bell

  • Hello johnfoconnor, Yep, Rocky Mountain High 1972. I was 11 that year, and couldn't find a record shop locally, that sold JD albums. I always coveted this album above all others. . Anytime I went to London, I would head straight to the bigger record stores in search of it. I eventually bought it in 1980, in a bargain bin for 50p.One mans' trash , was pure gold to me. I treasure it to this day.I seem to be on a journey ,listening to Johns' earlier songs lately. Reliving my youth maybe?Happy days!

  • Was John's all time fav...wrote by a class at UCLA in folk music as a sem project. This is what they come up with..lov it myself. Bet they all got a's for this!!!!!

  • What a sad day when we lost John and his beautiful music. No other out there sang it quite like he did. At this point in time he sang as well if not even better than he did in his younger years. I just don't think we will ever be given another wonderful gift such as John. RIP JD we still love you more than you will ever know!

  • Where have all our folk singers go? Did they all die when John did? Or do the new generation not know that there was a time when beautiful music was sung and listened to.no filthy words...Just beauty and truth. Where have our singers gone? I will always love John and his beautiful spirit. The music died the day that John did. This generation with its sick, filthy music. has lost a lot. I feel sad for their loss. John's biggest fan

  • @Yumbo3

There is still good music out there, but just now, this is my favourite music.

  • @Yumbo3 There are lots of folksingers every bit as good as John Denver out there Yumbo3, you just got to make the effort to find them.

  • @Joerath4

There's more to putting over a song than vocal technique. There's a sstory that John got some advice form Placido Domingo: make every note count. John was infinately better after the Maestro's counsel. There was and is no one better at what he did.

  • @Yumbo3 Sometimes I just hang my head in pain just by the thought of this new, crappy, blasphemous music, as for this, it's much better.

    ;( sometimes

    :) other times.

  • Would make a beautiful movie. To see such a love unfold and not even broken

by death. True love overcomes all.

  • A top-class balladeer. What a beautiful story, wonderfully told in song. I will listen to this song forever; well I have listened to it since the 70s and will for a long time yet.

JD, love your songs, love your crystal-clear voice.

  • @johnfoconnor . . . beautifully said. I'm a life long JD fan, I'm just having my little "fix" this afternoon. I'm playing some of the earlier songs. Isn't it amazing, how you don't hear a song in years, but you can remember all the words? Johns' songs are simple but timeless, and I feel better for listening to them. I never tire of his voice.

  • @17ciderqueen

Totally agree, I only came across this song again on utube about a month ago and could remember where I was when I first heard it. It was on a cassette tape that I bought, one of John's first albums. I remember the place well, but not exactly the year, maybe around 1972. And the cassette tape is long gone and so is the LP and even the CD, but have it on my IPod, wonder when that will go.

Ah, but thanks to YouTube, we will have the song forever!

  • I Miss You John.

May You Be a Star Shining in The Heavens Above.

    Psalm 121:7-8

    The LORD will keep you from all harm; he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

  • john denver was perhaps the last of a great lineage of folk singers who reminded us of simpler times.......... when all good things such as love, innocence, goodness of spirit existed........i guess their music was a reflection of their lives

  • One of my favorite John Denver songs and one of his most underrated. Thanks for posting.

  • rest in peace john.

  • John Denver was a light to us. G-d bless him.

  • Sad but lovely lyrics

  • This man had so much more to give he was taken too early, even in my teens in the seventies over here in Uk I was aware of his fledgeling stand against loggers and the covering of concrete across the land ,being a country boy myself I could relate to that even if it was in another country from mine. Gone but not forgotten...

  • The first John Denver song I've heard.

  • Was Darcy Farrow a real person, or is this just more of a folk song?

  • Nevermind...it's just a folk song based on the younger sister of the original songwriter (Steve Gillette). He had a little sister who was 12 years old. She was kicked in the face by a horse and broke her jaw, and was in the hospital for a few days. Everything else was well, she did not die. Her name was Darcy. Tom Campbell, the co-writer on the song, took a melody Gillette had written and came up with a story about the two young lovers and the tragic fall. Still a good song. :-)

  • I think this is the best concert John did, love it !

  • Yes....it was the best concert of him!

  • i love this concert, thank you for posting it
