When compared to the value of what it could purchase in the US, the dollar hasn't lost ANY VALUE. There hasn't been any inflation in the US since Jimmy Carter!! A basic car in 1985 when I was young was $20,000. A basic car today is $20,000 (or less).

The strange thing however is the Dollar is very strong against the Pound and Euro now(trading about 1.41 now from a 1.60 high).
If you say the Dollar would collapse would this imply that Oil and Gold will skyrocket?
I have noted recently USD has gained much strength as Oil from 147usd high fell to under 100USD.

OK but you have to pay attention. The pound FELL the dollar didn't get strong. Alistair Darling came out and pretty much told the UK to 'duck and cover'... the Pound fell to 1.74 against the dollar. Since then it's risen to 1.83 and it will climb as the Fed tries to print their way out of this.
it's a GLOBAL slowdown, so other markets will try to race us to the bottom, but as always the USA will win. We'll be first to touch the bottom. Question is... will we have sufficient air to make it back?

Basic economics:
Dollar weak = things get more expensive
So for example:
If we import from Canada and Canada's currency is gaining 20% per year (as it has the past 5 years on the US dollar) then things from there get more expensive. So the oil we import becomes MORE EXPENSIVE! The commodities we use to make the houses...most of it comes from outside of the US...commodity prices go up = cost of making house go up.
Get it? THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM! The man in this video is very smart and right!

The dollar hasn't lost 2/3 of its value in the last 5 years. It has lost 1/3 of its value WHEN COMPARED TO SOME OTHER CURRENCIES, which means that you can't buy European Wine as cheap now. When compared to the value of what it could purchase in the US, the dollar hasn't lost ANY VALUE. There hasn't been any inflation in the US since Jimmy Carter!! A basic car in 1985 when I was young was $20,000. A basic car today is $20,000 (or less).
