  • How much are anime dvds in japan?

  • @AnimeFan2236 to rent? about the same as in the US - about $3 for 5 days at my local shop. To buy - fairly expensive - check out Amazon(dot)co.jp for examples of prices

  • I would live in that store XD

  • nope anime is chinese

  • :O~

  • wats the song called at 2:41

  • @paparoach247 it's a good J-band called B'z - the song is called "Fly the Flag"

  • can u say anime overload? XD

  • You can rent manga/anime? :o

  • Why would you want to rent manga? I want to keep them.

  • I agree - when I buy American comics, I also keep them. But others, especially those on a budget, appreciate the ability to rent the books, like borrowing from a library, for a very cheap price.

Japan doesn't have as much storage space as America too, so often I know my students share a room, etc, so collecting all that manga would take up a lot of space.

  • dang it

I want to go to one of those stores someday

  • lmao i saw shin chan! :D

  • can u get me a naruto dvd box set all the episode

  • you don't want to pay Japanese prices for DVDs - they're really expensive in Japan.

  • do you know how rare they are

  • There rare in the usa but not in japan ._.

  • So you are an english teacher to japanese kids? that is so cool! If I gather correctly.

  • you are correct. I spent 5 years in Shimane, Japan as an ALT. Go to my main channel page and check out my playlists if you want to know more about teaching in Japan.

  • i saw shin chan ;)

  • the store is empty, wow wierd.

  • NARUTO SHIPPUDEN THE MOVIE NOOOOO!

  • do they have english dudded or is every thing in japanese

  • ofc its not gonna have english subtitles....

  • pretty much everything is in Japanese only. The only films I found with English subtitles are the Miyazaki movies.

  • OMG!!!

    THEY GOT SLAM DUNK!! XD

This video just made my day :)

  • I think I saw one or two anime titles I recognized. then I saw like 007 and stuff. I laughed when I saw pirates of the carribean in katakana XD I also would've laughed if I saw elfen lied in there which I think I did... maybe, I don't know!

  • 2:12 My favorite movie of the year! The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! That movie is friggin' awesome. If you haven't seen it, please rent. *o*

  • my local video/DVD store in my very rural town in Shimane Japan.

  • one song is barney the dinosaur

  • you know the 2nd or third song is popkemon inspired(im pretty sure)

  • i wonder how the rent cost on each movie?

  • at this place the older DVDs are 280 yen for 1 week, unless you rent 5 together and then it's 1000yen for 5 titles for one week.

New DVDs are 420 yen for two days.

  • dude tats the cust when u r at blockbuster ot hollywood video rental O.O thou i but candy there woohoo

  • jason just wondered-is yu-gi-oh and pokemon popular over there because ive still got most of my card from them

  • Maybe with younger children, but the older kids and teenagers like Bleach, One Piece, Death Note, Naruto, etc.

  • thats about 3 bucks.. Wow.. isnt it about.. 7 bucks for a week in america? damn japan is cheaper.. wow..

  • 1st thing you see=shin chan haha XD

  • I wish they still sold Sailor Moon in english. so hard to find now

  • i hope they have english subs..ohh and WOW! that place is huge!

  • That is awesome. I know when I visit Japan I'll have to take a lot of money with me. :D

    Tony.

  • Damn I MUST visit Japan :)

That's just something unbelievable, how many animes/mangas/hentais etc, are there....

  • so should i

  • do they have a lot of DBZ stuffs?

  • yep - lots and lots

  • wow thats alot did you buy any dvd's there

  • I didn't buy that many since you can't bring them back to America and play them on a regular DVD player since America is Region One and Japan is Region Two.

  • could you answer me this does most japanese anime dvds have english sub titles

  • Nope - no English subtitles, except the occasional DVD would have Japanese subtitles, which did help a bit if you can read Japanese.

  • i will go to japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol how could you afford that money

  • Do you live in japan?

  • yes I do ;)

  • hi i plan to move to japan sometime either next year or in two more years

think you could give me some info ,like where i can learn japanese fluently or how much it would cost to go there, it would be much appreciated.

  • lol did they seriusley have harry potter in japaniese?

  • subtitles lol

  • Big Hollywood movies are usually offered on DVD with two language tracks - the original English track and a dubbed Japanese track and two sets of subtitles - English and Japanese.

  • lol at pulling out aika r-16

  • Hey do they have any Sailor Moon Dvds there?? Or any Ojamajo Doremi Dvds or CDs there??? If so I'm moving to that store xD

  • "Bingo was his name-o" playing at the end of the video...weird.

  • LOL XD

  • The Song Was really Yannkie Doodle went to town.(srry can't spell)

  • what specific place is that? i want to go there..there are so many anime dvd's and cds'...

  • when you come to Shimane, send me a PM and I'll send you directions... :)

  • ow god im drewling here lol i soooo wanne go ther XD

  • hey ummmm so u understand and can speek japan?

  • I can understand more than I can speak Japanese, but I get by OK. I can't watch a Japanese movie on DVD tho, unless it has English subtitles. The actors just speak too fast for me.

  • oooooooo the girl who lept threw time was there lolz

  • that place was deserted! "does no one in japan watch anime." i would have thought there'd be a restaurant in there someplace.

  • yeah - this place used to be open 24 hours a day, which is crazy for my small rural town, so now they're open until 2am every night. I was there about 11:30pm, since I didn't want a bunch of people looking at me funny for talking to my camera. It gets busy, but never as busy as some of the video stores I worked at during college.

  • was that barney music at the end? lolz niece loves barney xD, anyways lol thx Jason was fun n_n

  • Thanks for the look inside!

  • Funny thing... reminds me that the video stores in the boondocks like Ishikawa prefecture were much bigger that in the middle of residential Tokyo. Yours is much bigger than mine.

  • it's the inaka - what else we gonna do?? :)

  • Smell the smouldering mounds of rice husks!

  • good video as always

  • There is another great reason to learn Japanese.

    Japanese Anime!!

  • I've been there, I saw it. :-)

Why not show some of the adult section, cuz people are usually astonished when I tell them that Hentai Anime makes up only a small fraction of what these rental shops offer.

  • man, that is a huge selection. all that is over here is the crap on the Animation stations. Boring. I miss the old stuff. heh shows my age. Again, thanks for the vid Jason.

  • I loved that Yankee Doddle song in the shop at the end.

Shin-chan is airing on Cartoon Network. It has a lot of adult humor, probably not a very accurate adaptation of it if it's found in the kid's section in Japan. A lot of the series you showed are airing on TV here in the States.

  • XD AHHHHHH I saw Shin-Chan!!!!

  • I see in the sidebar you say that you don't watch much anime (me too). Do you rent movies very often? What kind of movies do you watch? I watch a lot of American movies, there are so many good ones. I am kind of lucky to have a store near me that rents 3 weeklies for 300en so I like it there.

  • I rent all kinds of movies. I try to watch Japanese movies, but so few of the DVDs have English subtitles, and it's still tough for me to watch a whole movie in Japanese.

I worked in video/laserdisc/dvd shops all thru my twenties and while in college, so I know a lot about movies and I've seen everything.

I rent a lot of American TV on DVD here, since I've seen every movie, except new releases, which come out here painfully slow.

I'm looking forward to renting "Cloverfield" this week.

  • oh yeah, I am definitely with you there, Japanese movies without the subtitles are very hard. I think if you could understand everything said in a Japanese movie you could call yourself very very fluent.I used to watch a lot of American movies with the Japanese dubbing over the top and English subtitles but I havent been doing that much lately. Its good practise I think but the actors real voices make a big difference to the feel of the "part".I havent heard of Cloverfield before,I'll checkitout.

  • ok...no videorent store can compete with this...i already love it!we really need one here in canada;3but the thing is,it won't still be cheap as in japan. Thanks jason for this great video!

  • god, we need one of these stores in my town.

  • Lol, japanese yanky doodle. Ah, that was my laugh for today. Thanks for the vid, when I go to Japan I will proly spend a lot of time in those stores.

  • same here! lol

  • LOL, you looked a bit embarrassed to be in the anime section at the beginning of the video (or it could just be my imagination). I'm surprised to see the aisles so empty at this place!

  • nah - more embarrassed to be looking like I'm talking to myself in public. :)

It was pretty late when I filmed this - about 11:30pm or so.

  • yep - it's not bad. I rent DVDs pretty often.

  • thats my heaven

  • I'm not a big anime person. I've watched Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist (FMA my personal favorite watched the whole series including movie twice) but other than that, nothing. Cool to see some things around your town though.

    -Billy-

  • Slam Dunk is good(I should finish reading that...). The music in the store seemed quite loud.

  • Was that Yankee Doodle Dandee in Japanese at the end??

  • Yes, I think it was. Quite odd, but amusing.

  • Hey what songs did you use in that vid?

o and i reconized like 20 anime dvds--hope to see more of your vids

  • the only song I put in this video is:

    パルス by B'z - a good J-rock group

all the other music is stuff the store had playing as I walked around

  • thx i like that song

  • Anime Anime! ^_^

  • I'm sure the membership is obscenely priced. Yeah, no doubt about it, you are definitely in a video/comic/cd store. I'm surprised they actually rent out CDs with all the piracy that goes on in this day and age. Well, it's good to see that the Hollywood movies section is just like the way it was in Takamatsu. I think Order of the Phoenix was just getting released over there when I visited. English dialogue, Japanese subtitles. I assume they're in the foreign movies area of the store :)

  • membership is free at this shop.

  • Well actually in most places the membership is free, at least it was for me. As far as I know, piracy isn't as widespread as in the rest of world, and because cd's are totally overpriced in japan, most people just rent cd's

  • dude, i love you..... lol

  • wow it seems your not having a fun time.. lol :)

  • I love your videos!

They're so interesting. Thanks for making this! =D

  • you're welcome :D
