@sozzman the pronunciation IS "maronn". As a native Neopolitan, I can assure you that is how it's said. NOBODY in Italy pronounces it as "madonn". As a matter of fact, you can see in this blog, if you can even read Italian, which most Italian-Americans can't, that on the second line of the blog, she writes "maronn".

my Italian side of the family is from Northern Italy and I can assure you they say either "La Madonna" or "La Madon"

I always thought people who didn't know gathered it was Maronn because of the accents in the tv series.

I was clearly mistaken, but I know for a fact they say Madonn in the North of Italy.
