Thank you. I agree with you and hankx32--most of this will not remain important, but you have to look. Have to say, however, this second video contains more boring art than the first did for me. I wonder why? Too full of the artist-self perhaps?
I think it's cool because, and this is a secret to the show, but all the "art" was actually made by the curator himself, based on what he thought others would expect from the Whitney Biennial. It isn't about the art, it is about what all Biennial type shows will look like, no matter what the art says.
How do yall feel at 4:22 about using an element from a filmed performance piece as a sort of stand in/installation. Is it to prove that she really did that?

The real careers in great art will be opposing this stuff. This is the salon art of our day. If you took NYC art like this, and took out the sunglasses, mousse, and makeup, you wouldn't have anything left. Trendy derivative stuff. Video that is a mix of both bad film and bad art. If you want bad film go back to Warhol decades ago. This art is bad and it's hard to defend by anyone who loves great art - art that has substance, quality, and more than a quirky smirk. This is art 101. Thanks .
I'm going up to the show next week to see for my own eyes, but I would say like any group show, some of the art will be good and most will suck. You can't dismiss every artist or piece of art in this show, maybe the normal 90-95%, but not all.

The percentages of shallow derivative art are way up these past years. See my 5 doors to the art revolution (the one on visual arts) for why art has lost its way and become the salon art of our day. Yes salon art had some good pieces too, but it needed a big change back then. And it does now too. Thanks.

I will second that. At least James cares for art - it's so bad now that most couldn't be bothered. Compare to music, films, tv, or writing for example.
@TomHendricksMusea You blame Art? Take some personal responsibility. Mass media satisfies base desires too readily. Its OUR fault, not Arts. You dick.

Not my media - I'm part of the indy media opposed to mass media abuses. The mass media sooner or later makes everything our fault - they run the papers and it's our fault what's in them!
It`s a wonder of the world why 99% don`t fall back into obscurity.

The chick with camera was the most accessible (or perhaps least accessible) art on view on this floor!

I think most video art has its orgins from the 1960s and 70s golden age of music / spectacular live shows.
Thanks James
