If you guys don't recognize the passage is from Alice in Wonderland, you have problems. Forget the speed reading and actually go and enjoy some books.
Reading lots of books will also improve your speed, as simple turns of phrases and tendencies will become instantly recognizable, reducing your lag time between reading and word comprehension. No way around it, faster comprehension requires practice through books, not just drills.
The problem is, most people have problems with reading because they don't know how to speed read. The brain becomes too bored when people read slowly, and this reduces comprehension.
I gotta tell you this does work after a while you really get used to reading better theese excersises are good couse you can compare your results and yes you can improve, wikipedia says that something to aim for in the long run is 600 wpm with 80%+ comprehension for textbooks and probably more for news etc since you don't need to follow as much.
as for the snake oil books I honestly suggest to download them instead of buying them and see it's mostly crap.

my eyes are going to be sore tomorrow .
this will take a few years to build up right , to the 1000wpm level.
oh and russian and european jews are smarter then chineese kids , not so many of us around, but we have produced some of the greatest mathematicians physicists and grandmasters.
Wow I've tried this for a few times every day and, with all due respect, this is fucking amazing. My reading speed is going way up. I know this sounds hard to believe, but I can understand a lot more I read too.
the words are taken from the classic novel 'Alice in wonderland' 1865, Lewis Carrol. You still have good cause to be cautious, the sublim message may cause one to take a mouse to court for obscure crimes! very expensive.
personaly I think they are v good choice for this exerscise...
Question: is there any subliminal content here? What's wih the judges, trials, mice and condemning to death? Could you not have chosen more semiologically neutral or positive content? Since this will be flashing at the limit of perception level, I would have preferred to bombard my brain wih positive messages. Good exercises though.
Ah, perhaps you fail to realize where these words are taken from. There is much metaphorical content within Alice in Wonderland. No one could deny it, but this masterpiece still remains one of the greatest fictional works of literature. What book should they have taken from, Fun With Dick and Jane?
I believe the particular work was not taken at random, but due to the very abstract imagery and idea being expressed that you actually have to comprehend. While reading very quickly, this makes the exercise more effective. But thats just my guess, I could be wrong =P.
I love these exercises!!

Remember to read with just your eyes, not your mouth ;) Once you can isolate this into reading with ONLY your eyes, you're speed reading....
