  • Don't know that this is that good a technique. What if your opponent is smarter than the guy in blue and pins your knee to the mat and outweighs you by 40 lbs? I don't know many who would not pin your knee to the mat. You're pretty much stuck and the technique becomes useless.

  • Thank you sooooooooo muchhhh Demian Maia :D this will help me a lot

  • Great counter attack instructions. Thank you.

  • ADCC Champion

  • open the shpace

  • Scape!

  • yourpunishment, sounds like you dont know BJJ, why the hell would you give up a perfectly set up armbar to go for a heel hook? thats like me giving up a sunk and deepb rear naked choke to transition to an armbar because his arms flailing.

  • BRAzILIANS ARE AWESOME

  • Simple but so awesome. maia is brilliant!

  • Step 1: Scape!

  • Awesome video

  • Demain Maia=a fuckin genius!!!!

  • The destroying the head position stuff is awesome, makes sure a difference when trying to stop the pass

  • So helpful, thanks for posting =)

  • his ground game is the best. anderson silva is just to good standing

  • great vid!!! the head thing is what i always forget to do!!! now i know better!!

  • I love this vid. The details and fundamentals are explained clearly. Also, the principle is really what matters.

  • Even though Marquardt beat him fair and square, i forsee more 'submission of the night' bonuses in Maias future! Master of his art.

  • @eltubster14 yeah and he will improve he's stand up

  • you guys gotta admit floppin fish leites is funny

  • @shaun0069 Maia would strangle Leites out cold with his toenail. Maia is galaxaies ahead of Leites in the BJJ realm.

  • i hate the toreana pass. its not technical, and it i notice a lot of blue belts rely exclusively on it

  • Andre Galvao uses it a lot and he's a very technical fighter.

  • andre galvao is an incredible jiu jitsu player and i have seen him use toreana pass on several occasions.

  • leo vieira kills black belts all day with it. must be something technical about it. just watch leo's match with baret yoshida.

  • Did he pass Yoshida's guard?

  • he passed at will.

  • That I don't remember. I do remember Vieira passed Eddie Bravo's guard at will, but I do remember Yoshida upsetting Vieira's passing efforts quite alot more.

  • this is a nice and simple way to explain how to defend the guard

  • He COULD take SILVA on the ground. His ground game is unbelievable

  • he wouldnt be silva

  • @ten8goa Nice Prediction!!!

  • @ten8goa he is better on the ground but silva is still a black belt so he would know demians game

  • @rosslegend silva is a fake black belt he cant won maia on the ground

  • @otishadow Silva isn't a fake black belt, he submitted Sonnen, he is a tue blacj belt, but bjj isn't his main art. He isn't a bjj specialist as Demien Maia, who won several bjj high level championships.

  • @felo790 i know blue belts of bjj wich can bite him easy ;)

  • @felo790 Sonnen didnt do anything to defend either. he left the triangle opent hte whole fight... silva had tons of chances to get the sub.

  • @TylerH2055 You are right. They are poor ground fighters.. If I fight them I would submit them quickly.

    C'mon.... get real.

  • @felo790 hes a true black belt bc he tapped out ONE fighter? get real his ground sux hes prolly a purp TOPs...sonnen GAVE him a heel hook and silva didnt do shit about it bc he duznt know bjj as well as u think

  • @YourPunishment1 He has 5 wins by submission. Even if he didn't submitted Sonen he would be a true black belt. Arona has 3 wins by submission, and I think he is a hell of black belt. What's a true black belt? Is one who submits all top 5 MMA fighter? Or you have to win asome international black belt championship?....Wow... really hard... guess I will stick with my brown...

  • @felo790 agree, he submitted to olympic level wrestlers in Hendo, and sonnen, and finished BJJ black belt in travis lutter, if that doesnt constitute you as a true black belt, then idk what does.

  • @aokifan89 It's sad people doesn't respect traditions and older fighters.

He was awarded his black belty by Nogueira brothers, this alone should be enough to be reconigzed as a "true black-belt".

  • I like how he's talking to us in English and giving his partner instructions in Portuguese.

  • Clear explanation. Great video.

  • Unfortunately the only thing I can accurately replicate is Maia's voice. My training partner's keep saying "do your Maia voice" because it makes them laugh. They laugh even harder when I try and copy his technique though:(

  • Maia is the best he's the 1 who's goin 2 beat Anderson Silva not thalies

  • Demian maia's dvd is amazing

  • you have not watched the UFC have you?

  • It was a joke. Which is why it was followed by laughter. Then me saying "My GOD this man is bad ass".

  • turn a paper in to your teacher like that and you will surely fail.

  • You sir, are not my teacher.

Hahah...so you think he'll take Silva out eventually?

  • hahahahahahahaaaaaahaaaaaahahahahahaa dont ever comment on mma bud youre a joke. loll

  • .......k.

I asked him if he thought Maia could beat Silva. I'm happy it made you laugh like a drunken retard on the wrong medication, but what was so funny about it?

    bud.

  • yeh sjl36 would he asked if he knew the answer so why dont you answer instead of being an arse about it

  • when you are putting his head to the floor what do you suggest to do to make sure he does not get the far underhook? just keep the arm tight?

  • very nice

  • If you watch this clip, and then watch BJ Penn defend the pass against Leo Vieira, their hips are moving almost identically to keep the "straight line". It's amazing how little details like this make a HUGE difference.

  • Look!

  • "Knees in! Knees in! Knees in! Knees in! Knees in!" was drilled into my head through judo, I'm definitely going to learn a lesson about the head control too and try that out.

  • It's true what demian says; control the head and you will control de body. Everything flows: your mind, your movements; the hips!

  • wow thats pretty cool it comes in handy if ur in jiujitsu classes so u can be ahead of them

  • Gotta get this dvd!

  • thanks you maia, this is so basic yet probably the most important rules when you are on your back, i can't belive i only learn this today...teachers only teach students how to pass the guard but never how to defent the actual guard pass, prof look how little videos there are on youtube about this subject. this is the most educational video i have ever seen on bjj, forget about the fancy submissions the basics are EVERYTHING!

  • I'm gonna buy his dvd... not just for support, but cuz its great tutorial for BJJ.

  • i know that technique thats easy ..its a flying triangle!!!!

  • that is very very helpful

  • great principle

  • Great Video

  • I like this. He doesn't just say 'do this then do this then do this', he tells you WHY you're doing it, and underlying principles which you can apply to mutliple situations. I'm going to buy this dvd.

  • Do all brazilians film their training videos in the same place?

  • lol, I just noticed that.

  • I feel like I've just found the holy grail! Thanks guys.

  • I've been training formally in BJJ for 3 months and no has explained to me how to stop this guard pass attempt like that. Very easy to understand, I can't wait to try it. Much appreciation!

  • look at all of his stuff it will rapidly improve your game and submissions 101 videos...good luck

  • If you just started i wouldn't recommend the submissions 101 videos because some of Ari's techniques are technically wrong and you can pick up bad habits. Of course there can be some decent stuff on there as well but in a lot of his video's he often makes mistakes with movement etc.

  • new guys don't listen to this ari bolden and the rest of the submission 101 guys show great moves with excellent technique. you may just be thrown a bit because they use techniques from all the grappling arts bjj, sombo, judo japanes jujitsu, catch wrestling. they also have great videos on 10th planet jiu-jitsu

  • very simple very effective the whole point of jiu jitsu this is good

  • this is fantastic.

  • i just blew my load.

  • this is really good technique on keeping the gurd postion everytime i found myself trying to close the guard now ill try this am d see how it works

  • ALLIANCE & BRASA are the best,MAIA is very good, he showes crucial technics;HOPE the

    best luck for you.
