This was the first electric guitar I ever held in my hand when I was a nipper of around 7 or 8 years old in 1972/3, not sure exact year. My old man owned bars all over Glasgow and a Fender Mustang was found in the cellar of a bar he had just taken over in the City Centre. It was a kind of yellowish brown colour or we thought so until a guitarist took it away for a few days. He brought it back pure white. It had turned yellowish brown due to being played in the smoke filled bar for years LMAO
@yangadoshi Depends on the amp... Some amps with pre-setings works fine, if you use pedal effects then it can work or will sound shity. I would recomend upgreading the pickups cuz they are alittle thin sounding
does this mustang have a gold fender logo? mine does and i'm trying to work out what year re issue it is as i bought it second hand, cheers in advance mate
Hope to get one of this late 90s jap reissue before they run out.. i'm kinda tired of my buzzing cheapass weak squier strat twin pivot bridge... not so cheap. :(
@krazy4knives, back in the 60's Mustang guitars and basses were "cheap instruments" intended for "students, kids or girls" (so the advertisment use to say).
the Japanese reissues are very nice instruments, with all the Japanese quality, good materials and quality pickups.
my Mustang Bass (reissue, from 99/2002) became my N°1, beating with no difficulties my Precision and my Jazz Special. really great instrument.
Hey could you tell me what pickups this has? Is there just one humbucker? Also, did you check out the jaguar black and chrome HH MIJ? I'm deciding between the two and am my sure which is better for the 90s alt. Sound. Any thoughts would be helpful. Great playing love your review.
That's a great sounding guitar. The "both pickups out of phase" sounds real humbuckery too, versatile guitar. For lead guitar just learn some scales, but leave out 2 or 3 random notes every time you go up and down them. That will make it sound like you're not just doing blues wank and have some kind of plan.
@TheDopeOctapuss I put Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge of my Mustang. That did the trick. It isn't as heavy as my Jaguar but it will get you what you want for sure.
@SuperDsffdsf I see what you're saying my mistake. My Jaguar has Hot Rails in it my Mustang has Seymour Duncan Little 59's in it! Yeah there is a difference in pickup size. The Jaguar is definitely heavier sounding but with a few tweaks to the amps and pedals the Mustang will reach out and touch you.
@SuperDsffdsf In my strat I'm thinking about putting in the Hot Rails as well. If the Strat responds iike the Jaguar did to them I will be pleased for sure. Might even try to go heavier on the strat.
I just bought a Fender Players Jaguar HH. Also new to replacement pickups. Can a Seymour Duncan trembucker work well or is the spacing going to be an issue?
have you had any issues with hitting the switches while rocking out? I've played on a Jag and I like the sound and fit but I hate the placement of the switches.
thats sound so Nirvana :) even playing other song when i listen you playing I remenber to think " I know this type of sound... then i realize .... this is Nirvana Kurt's Guitar ... Nice guitar :)
I love mustangs. think they are definitely one of the most attractive electric guitars. just struggle with the electronics (unnecessarily complicated, only a couple of usable tones.) wouldn't it be better with just a Gibson type 3 way switch? and the short scale neck with its excessive slimness at the nut. thinking of getting a full scale 65 inspired mustang made up with the three way. compliments to the guitar. beautiful in Daphne blue.
I play this exact one today on a Marshall stack thinking it would sound like Nirvana, but I was highly disappointed. It sounded sort of country-western or something. But otherwise a very nice guitar, beautiful, light, and easy to play.
@guitargod9000 i play it on my marshall too and it sounds good if you know the right settings, just mess about with the settings and you will find a nice sound
i'm planning to buy one, but someone told me that this reissue is not good, could someone tell me if this guitar is as good as de vintage mustang of it's bad? thanks!
@PBANDSNOW yes, very (me at least). What happens is that you get "lazy" after getting used with a shorter scale neck, playing 25.5" inches scales became harder to me. I never really bonded with the Mustang I had, so I sold it a few years ago (and went back to a 25.5").
I have no idea why people like fender mustangs, strats sound much better to my ears. Mustangs sound tinny, have major tuning problems, and are way over priced.
Best tone in this video is the bridge pickup with distortion.
@downsontheupside I have no idea why people like strats, Jaguars sound so much better to my ears. Strats are over rated, over used, and are unbelievably expensive.
