  • The CBC needs to focus on its main mandate, which is to serve Canadians not already served by mainstream broadcasting. With that being said there should be minimal, or no funding to keep it on as an arts based broadcaster. If it is there to serve the people of the north or rural areas without regular broadcasting outlets, then let's keep it going. Otherwise, let it support itself like private broadcasters.

And I am not a Kelly Block supporter... quite the opposite.

  • @yugo69 The reason i said like North Korea is because all the communist countries have a state broadcaster but many free countries don't . There are many places to get your news from rather then Robert Murdoch and he has nothing to do with this conversation asshole .

  • @yugo69 Canada should not be in the media business like North Korea and we don't have 1 .3 billion to waste on the CBC

  • @BoredomCorner You mean the F 35's that Iggy and Layton voted for ?

  • @yugo69 I suppose it would be more accurate to say the CBC has been campaigning against the Conservatives then for the Liberals. As most relize the NDP is the CBC first love but even they relize the NDP will never been elected federally . The CBC is horribly biased as well as a waste of tax dollars . Try googling (CBC Ombudsman Admits Liberal Bias)

  • @imN0Ttheone And that's why they go after the NDP a lot too, right?

Mansbridge practically rolled out the red carpet for Harper, by the way.

  • @yugo69 How is dumping 1.3 billion a yr into a corporation that competes directly against the private sector not a money pit . You want a channel that makes you think try The National Geographic or History channel they don't have the left wing bias and are not sucking on the government teet . If you think FOX or MSNBC are responsible for the polarization in America you missed the Viet Nam , Nixon , Reagan , Clinton eras where America was even more divided .

  • @hanksnow82 By that logic, why is the government funding church groups?

  • "dismissive" is the correct adjective.

  • When did it become acceptable to not discuss issues during an election campaign? What I particularly like is that you challenged Kelly Block to be accountable during one of Harper's orchestrated attempts during this election. This is a brilliant example of participatory democracy!!! Does Kelly Block think that you don't know the Parliament is in Ottawa???

  • @terra1st

As such, I've posted links to relevant articles about candidates avoiding all-candidates debates in the "show more" section.

  • @terra1st

I just linked the Star Phoenix article about Kelly Block skipping out on all-candidates debates.

  • The CBC has been campaigning hard for Ignatieff for the last month and i hope this finally makes the Conservatives stop funding the CBC if they get a majority .

  • I just heard on SUN News the CBC is still fighting the audit of its books . Why would a public broadcaster be afraid to show the public their books ?

  • @terra1st The CBC is a total waste of money and i remind my MP of that when ever i see him .

  • @terra1st I didn't know Wheel of Fortune was educational and informative programing . The 33 dollar a person argument is a piss poor one to justify a waste of money .

  • @hanksnow82 Actually, it is the lack of public funding that forces the CBC to broadcast reruns of shows...

  • @jardenagj LOL I don't think anyone believes that 1.3 BILLION dollars isn't enough money for the CBC to waste . If you really want to make that case why is the CBC so scared to show their books to the public ? Do you think wasting a MILLION dollars on things like " Mulroney the Opra " that will never be broadcast could be the reason ?

  • @hanksnow82 How much do those F-35s lemons cost, nowadays? About $150 billion?

  • @hanksnow82 before the real cost of the fighter jets was known, the average burden per tax payer over 5 years was $666. Now, the correct figure has come out after the Conservatives were found in contempt for hiding it, and it's closer to $1300/Canadian taxpayer over 5 years.

WITHOUT ENGINES. You complain about the CBC at $33? That's half you're probably paying for libraries in civic taxes.

  • @emperorinsaino The jets who all 3 parties voted for will be phased in over 10 years not 5 and as we all know the contempt BS was just the Libs and NDP playing politics . If we don't buy the jets we won't have an air force in just a few years and i doubt most clear thinking Canadians would find that acceptable . The jets have nothing to do with funding the CBC which is just a money pit . DEFUND THE CBC NOW .

  • @hanksnow82 Try me again when the HarperCons don't want to waste even more money, on planes that don't work.

  • Regardless of how you feel about the CBC, I think the bigger issue is that this candidate is not willing (or prepared?) to answer simple questions about prominent issues during an election campaign. When IS a good time if not now? Kudos for sticking to your guns & not just accepting a pathetic, condescending "thank you" as a response to your serious inquiry. I hope voters pay attention to this & consider the fact that they'd have to hunt her down just to get an empty answer to their concerns.

  • 1.3 BILLION dollars wasted on the CBC every year could be far better spent on education or health care . Its the 21st century and time for the government to get out of the television business .

  • @hanksnow82

do you really think that if the CBC was shut down, the money would actually go towards education and health care? If anything I would think the moneys spent on the G20, fighter jets and corporate tax cuts would more than cover the need in health care and education and we could keep the CBC, and an informed public.

  • @amydeidre Let me remind you all 3 parties voted for the jets . Replacing the jets at 6 a year over 10 years is hardly a military build up and we can't expect them to fly 30 year old jets forever . I am not saying the CBC should be shut down but they should be cut off from the public teet and made to support themselves . It's not 1950 and we sure can't afford to pay over a BILLION dollars for a network that gives us Wheel of Fortune .

  • @hanksnow82 Being cut off from the public 'teet' would inherently defeat it's purpose; to not have corporate influence, and to create programs that are educational and informative rather than glitzy, addicting and competing for a monopoly. Over a billion dollars works out to about 33 dollars per person per year, yet ridiculous amounts of people are paying more than that per month to become satellite subscribers, watching zombifying programs that are making the masses dumber by the minute.
