If you want to fight the drug related crime in Mexico, then legalize the drugs and take the criminal element out of it altogether. Nobody smuggles grapes across the border to make wine, they bring the booze in legally and pay a tax on it.
Stop referring to them as "assault weapons". They're not, they're semi-automatic rifles. Guns that fire one bullet every time you pull the trigger, and in some cases, fire rounds that are weaker and less dangerous then standard bolt action sniper rifles that aren't even controlled under the ban.
The bans on these specific guns are purely cosmetic. Only because the guns are modeled after their military counterparts (the ones that can automatic fire).
And if you knew a thing or two about gun laws, you'd know that guns that are even capable of automatic fire (true "assault weapons") have been heavily regulated since 1934. And in 1986 they were banned throughout the United States. You would learn this just from watching this video, and it's clear you didn't.
the second amendment was not designed for hunters or protecting your home although those things do happen, it was designed to protect you from a tyranical government, look into it.

I feared the Obamanation would use the Mexican narco war as a pretext to disarm Americans. Nevermind the likelihood that the cartels are actually being armed by their own military.
Please bring your concerns respectfully to the current administration in relation to this. Obama promised to be your president too, be faithful that your good, calm, reasoned voice matters now more than ever. Go to the Obama site and go there often, its there for that use.

Although actually both should be well regulated. We cannot let criminals get their hands on AK47s in the name of the Second Amendment. That is just foolish.
