I wanted to let everyone know I switched Bella to a grain free cat food called "Blue Wilderness" and she's hasn't had near the outbreaks she used to. Might be worth a try with you cat that has asthma too!
Maybe the asthma condition is from scents, like a fabric softener, like Bounce. Scents are the waste product of the petroleum industry. Febreze is like rat poison to cats. The ASPCA says that's an urban legend, but I don't believe it. I have gone all unscented, and personally feel better (unscented safflower handmade soap, Borax, baking soda, table salt to clean, drinking / cooking with distilled water). Check out the EWG video "What is Fragrance?" /watch?v=sN5IiaOaIt8
Thanks for the suggestion chupie. I may have to replace mine. It's so hard to tell if it got in her lungs. Luckily her asthma is mostly controlled on the cortico-steroids but we will do anything we can to reduce her suffering and improve her health.
Have you gotten the upgraded aerokat? Neatest thing since sliced bread. It has a little breathing indicator so you can see how many good breaths. The manufacturer says 6 are good.
I don't think you are doing it long enough. My vet says 7-10 seconds. I usually keep it on for 20 seconds or until it looks like she took a few deep breaths. Glad your cat is doing better!
Not sure why someone voted this comment down, I voted it back up, this person is correct, it's not being done long enough. It's supposed to be like 10 seconds but this count goes by in half that time...
