Sorry! Put the floss around your MIDDLE finger! Then you can manipulate the floss with your thumb and index finger. When you have the floss arounf your index finger, it is very hard to gain access to the posterior (back) teeth. This is the way folssing is instructed at most dental schools.

@FoldedArt I was told that bacteria leave cavity causing acids that build up between teeth, and flossing assists in cleaning the space out.. If you never floss, you might be subject to getting deep gums, where bacteria waste builds up farther down between the gums and tooth and then you'll need to see a dentist every 3 months in the hopes of it clearing up.

Michelle - get some gloves that fit. Do not use your index fingers -you will end up using your thumbs also, then trying to get two fists into your patient's mouth. Wrap the floss around your middle fingers, then use your forefingers to guide the floss properly.

@SirSexyAlot - I try to floss once a day, and I use "glide plus" brand as it really does "glide" fairly easily through the teeth :) They say that brushing alone only helps to clean the teeth by about 65 percent. I do notice that my gums are much healthier when flossing as you'd mentioned.

They could have used a teen or adult as the floss model :) If it were me (as an adult), I would've asked the dental staff to wear a mask while talking so closely to me. @hellsing3x6 - I use "glide plus" and that really does seem to break off more easily without so much shredding including when actually flossing the teeth. If the floss does start to shread, I just try to clean around the silver metal piece that is supposed to cut the floss. The 'target' store usually has more affordable prices for "glide" than other stores unless the item is on sale.
