  • I like the little kids laughing! Cute how LARP can be a family affair!

  • Was this done as a LARP event or historical re-enactment?

Because if it was the latter, I have some news for you...

  • LEEEEEERRRRRROOOOOOOYYYYYY JEEEEEENNNNNNKKKKKIIIINNNSSS

  • I love larping

  • now ''get a life'' term means sit near pc and troll all day long

P.S most of all those mans are married

and i am joying my local town viking club next Wednesday.yay im so happy

  • the little girls are laghing what you just saw warriors die :O

  • can i join?

  • is this dagorhir?

  • @RKcousins625 Nope - it's reenactment combat using blunt steel weapons rather then a LARP system.

  • Holy shit is that live steel?

  • @br0wnie1987 No - it's what is called 'rebated' steel. The edges of the weapons are about 2-3mm thick and all spears have a 10mm ball bearing on the end to prevent them from doing anything except cracking a rib if everything goes wrong.

  • thats the historical correct way... the guys in the first line are the badass ^^

  • Patrząc na te filmy nie dziwię się że wschód wali z całego U.S.

  • The moral of the story is: don't charge shield walls.

  • The guy in front is forlorn hope anyway.

  • ridiculous question but what kind of weapons are they using they look very real

  • @mastercheif158 blunt steel weapons - recreated from finds but not sharp.

  • for vikings/saxons what kind of stuff do you need?

  • guy in the front looks like hes forced into this lol

  • @MisterRofltastic strangely, if the leader of the boar-snout is leaning back it makes the impact more powerful. It forces the whole formation to be more tightly packed

  • @Oddthetall I can't argue with that, just like to make a (rather noobish) comment that the person in front appears to be an unwilling participant.

  • they are all equiped with round shields so they are probly VIKINGS... and they do have armour on some of them, some just only wear linen / cloth....

  • nice tactic!

  • Of course they don't die for real. Do you see any blood?

  • Them Vikings got owned.

One of them went down before the fight even started.

  • Form that into a wedge and you have a useful counter-spear formation.

  • As for the polearms, to counter that strategy I would have them form a Skiltrom formation, or if just taking the charge head on, form a phalanx, and had the men dig their feet in and lean forward slightly as to not be pushed back or fall backwards when the impact of the enemy force clashes.

think these are good strategies? I love strategies.

  • For the record, I am the person with the yellow tunic and white cloak.

Shiltron formation was developed much later - boar-snouts were (and are) ineffective against them but you cannot really use shields in a shiltron - you're packed in too tight.

Locking shields and taking a step just before the impact woks sometimes - however, a one-line wall like that is doomed. - the boar-snout will just punch through. Period.

  • I would of Divided up my squad and attempted to flank from two sides by first leading the middle pack in then when the enemy is vulnerable attack from the flanks and finish the off.

  • yeaaah... except shield walls in reality are far too big for that

  • Actually thrasher... the "chain" part of "chain mail" actually means that the "mail" is used in a "chain-like" structure, where the "mail" is formed into a series of "chains" which protect the wearer. Just being helpful too :D

  • @FuriousPoster No the "chain" part really is incorrect. Historically, mail (or maille) refers to a flexible armor made of interlocking metal rings, which kind of resemble a chain... I guess? Regardless, the addition of the word "chain" does nothing to change the meaning of the word "mail," making it unnecessary.

  • why would the wall stand there and take the charge? open a pocket and let the pole arms cripple the attacking force

  • just being helpful here: "chain mail" is incorrect, the terms are interchangeable. saying "chain mail" is like saying "chain chain" or "mail mail." Just use "chain" or "mail" :)

  • is that real weapons?

  • yep

  • Are the fighting and deaths real as well?

  • Yeah, you never heard of blunt weapon genocide?

  • oh sorry, youre mongolian, i swear ill never bother you again...

  • Could use some work, but a good show nonetheless. The guy in front on the charge looks like he is trying to slow down :D

"Nooo don't push me into that spea-AAAAAAAGH!"

  • Funnily enough, that actually adds a lot of force to the charge as all the people pushing behind work better than everybody just running in a wedge. (greater force needed as you are pushing a heavy weight rather then running)

  • sorry - that was meant to be a reply to KedricVarangia

@voxximous - we did that the next year but the boars-snout hit the ropes and fell over. :p

  • @KedricVarangia Indeed, what if a spear stabbed him in the leg by accident, and they were pushing him into it xD

  • @KedricVarangia Wait...operation human shield doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

  • What a shame... I seem to have forgotten a quotation mark.

    My life is without value.

  • I think you left something out.

"Childish web surfers express lack of life by wasting time watching videos of 'middle-aged virgins express[ing] lack of life through faggoty midieval battle reanactment' and then proceeding to post negative comments to improve their own insecure egos.

    "There we go!"

  • what kind of life are we suggesting they get?

    lol...

always wondered what "get a life" meant.

does it mean to completely immerse oneself into the customary norms of living life using only the means presented by the popular culture?

and if sword fighters dont have lives, doesnt that also mean that anyone with any moderately strange interests doesnt have a life either? does that mean that artists have no life? does that mean that Musicians have no life? fascinating...

  • you say 'fascinating' at the end... i'd translate it to 'fascistnating'...

  • lol, i see what you did there.

  • tell me :p

  • @poopwadmcgee yeah people are idiots personally if this is not having a life than i love it

  • @poopwadmcgee Agreed.

  • @poopwadmcgee

actually, very agreeable ;) Rather THAT is the marrow of life itself than to ... well you all know what I mean ( - And I actually forgot the pointy thing I just wanted to express. darnit..)

So.. at elast, I think, it's obvious they did it just for show and they both sides could do better and more 'professional', but yes, looks fine for watching, but pretty ugly to stand an front of the "breaking bodies"..

  • @poopwadmcgee wow you sure know how to mess with peoples heads

  • @poopwadmcgee dont feed the trolls. If you argue with them they win. trolling will end when people like you stop caring.

  • what are they using? they have no armour

  • Shields and some of them DO have armor on.

  • @fluffysaigon The first poor bastard is the armor xDD

  • chain mail

  • @zackass6 Back then, many of the soldiers were either conscripted peasants or run-aways, they didn't have the money for good armor, now the ones that did have the money (i.e. nobles) had it made.

  • @zackass6 Armour was very expensive. Only rich people had armour, most fighters used a shield and spear, and mayba an axe or club (swords were also expensive)
