  • Perfect theme song for congress

  • JAMES BROWN WAS NO JOKE AT ALL

  • Hard to believe he was in his 70s when this was recorded. Just try to sit still when you listen to this. Good Gawd!!

  • james brown had the best band ever!!!

  • james brown had the best band ever!!!

  • why does the fattest nigger in band always sit on drums?

  • @kickalion

Cause skinny white-trash crackers like Tommy Lee can't keep up with JB!

  • @DanTrout Well this skinny nigger is offended by both your comments but at the same time i agree.

  • This is one of the greatest lived performances you'll ever see of this song. The band locked onto the grove like a heat seeking missile and just drove it!

There will never be another James Brown. He was an absolute force of nature!

  • Oh my god!! That sax solo literally blew my mind.

Wow, had no idea they could reach tones that high. Had he continued it'd have hit a frequency where only dogs would have been able to hear it.

Damn what a performance and what a band.

    Amazing!!

  • Depending on exactly when this was originally recorded James Brown was somewhere in his late 60's early 70's. He passed at age 73

  • James Browns the Greatest like Muhammad Ali and Bruce lee.

  • that is an awesome song i am sorry i hear all the time for lunch time

  • Epic hair is epic.

  • that guitar at 0:41 is so f-ing BOSS :D

  • Brilliant !! and 7 tards only not bad...good gawd awwwwwww!

  • What does JB say between 1:31 to 1:38? or 1:54 to 2:02?

  • @krusty789 idk but it James Brown so it gotta b good

  • @krusty789 1:31 "Everybody, i need that funky horn!" 1:54 "Scott, play your horn! Play that funky horn! Need your funky horn!

  • @krusty789 131 to 138 is "I need your funky horn, your sweet funky horn, i want your funky horn" then between 154 202 is "Jeff bring your horn, bring that funky horn, need your funky horn, JEFF BRING IT!!"

  • What does JB say between 1:31 and 1:38? or 1:54 to 2:02?

  • I think it is utterly asinine the way late night talk shows have relegated the musical guests to the last 3 minutes of the show. Years ago the musical guest would sit down with the host as an actual guest and sing 2 or 3 songs. Rememer Mr. Brown's phenomenal appearance of David Letterman in 1982 where he sang three songs, talked for 15 minutes and brought the house down?

  • Awesome . . . !

  • OK ... THE MASTER !!!

Who plays the bass? Thank's a lot !!!

  • What Energy!!! What Charisma!!! What Electricity!!!

  • The funk is STRONG with this one.......

  • 1:01 james is on a roll..

  • Great! Funky, precise and well choreographed. Gotta love how that "old man" pulls of that dance move at 1.01

  • he was a great real dancer and performer

  • 7 people are obviously the marsmen Nasa just released had a pressconference about!

  • the truth

  • The single most exciting performer in history! Period!

  • wow how did i miss this one......darn it!

i luv james soulful sound...he's one bad kat!! can you digg it..

  • RIP James Brown u are the Best ;)

  • for ALL you racist mo fos, for your information ELVIS loved the SWEET INSPIRATIONS, they were good friends ,and those black girls could sing,he knew talent when he saw it, and once agin he and james were good friends. so GROW UP.

  • @i1b2c3 You know whats racist this... The

"I'm not racist,I have black friends" argument. You grow up.

  • WOOOOW....amazing!!! They definitely don't do live performances like this anymore...damn...i feel ripped off my parents generation got all this amazing talent....all we got today is hacks with computer generated vocals.... sigh...

  • I used to think that Browns live shows in his later career were awful. But this performance changes all that, it's simply incredible! The best, now without a doubt.

  • Look At My Aunt Workin It The One In The Middle I Love It!

  • He yells "Dr. Detroit" in the mic -- which is the 1983 Dan Akroyd movie he performed this re-vamped version in originally. Surprised it was still on his mind all those years later...

  • This is the best James Brown performance on You Tube.

    Flawless.

(I like the "Funky Good Time" Letterman rehearsal, too.)

  • RAW POWER .. PURE FUNK .. PURE SOUL !!!!!!!

  • amazing

  • the crowd got their moneys worth

  • the were both one of a kind. JB was my favorite out of the 2. He wrote the songs was the musical director. Dance arranger Ladies and Gentle the Hardest working man in show business. JAMES BROWN.

  • Black music owns!!

  • Something about James Brown and Letterman. They kick it nice.

  • wow. ive never heard a tenor sax go that high.....Go James BROWN!!!!!!!

  • The King of Funk

    James Brown the best

    He have good B-Boy songs

  • Jmes Brown brought so much happiness into people's lives. Thx Mr Brown.

  • You don't hear bands like The James Brown Review anymore! He was one of a kind and the greatest. Outstanding horn section! Rap and all that crap don't hold a candle compared to James!

  • Mrimsokewl you are a f*ckin IDIOT. Online talkin yo sh*t. WHY ARE YOU YOUTUBING JAMES FOR YOU MORON!!!????

    Godfatha of soul baby!

  • they say he got his ass packed when he was in prison thats why hes bow legged lmao

  • brown was worthless crack head chitlin eatin nappy headed ho baboon lmao, now he sgettin his mail from groundhogs lmao

  • @MrImsokewl Shut up man, James Brown is one of the greatest men ever to walk on this earth. Now get up offa that thang!

  • "get up offa that thang!"

  • Ha at 2:19 they say "solo" because of the alto solo :)

  • a man that old get down to a groove that was like 130 bpm or maybe more, just amazing...

  • all funky!!

  • Does he say, "Dr Detroit!" at 0:13 ???

Nothing like getting a SHOUT OUT from JB!

  • @docdetroit2006 - He said 'Dr. Detroit' because he performed the song in that movie.

  • that move between1:oo-1:06 thats alright

  • Holy Crap! That had to have been one of the hottest, electrifying perfomances EVER on Letterman.

  • did you know that kames was the first entertainer at elvis graceland when he found out he had passed away in 1977. he really admired elvis. and im sure elvis felt the same of james ability as an entertainer.

  • how can you compare ELVIS and JAMES, they were BOTH GREAT charismatic entertainers. two different voices, two different acts, both moved well, but in different styles, elvis ws a mover, james a dancer. elvis ,the king of rock and roll, and james the godafther of SOUL. i loved them both, please DONT compare.

  • @i1b2c3 However James Brown was a creator of new sounds and musical styles. Elvis merely copied what black artists were already doing. Elvis was great, but James Brown was an innovator.

  • @bigpoppa206 Exactly!!

  • @i1b2c3

    please God send Him back..

  • @i1b2c3 FACT Elvis wouldn't have existed if it weren't for ther black real kings of Rock N Roll performers before him

  • @i1b2c3 you are dumb then because james brown compared himself to elvis in a popular quote of his

  • @i1b2c3 JB is like 65-70 years in this video to :)

  • @i1b2c3 Personally i think james was a better entertainer, great vocal range and MUCH better dancer...but like you said they were nboth great and shouldnt be compared

  • @i1b2c3 Elvis was extremely boring and is terribly over-rated. He is basically Justin Bieber of his time.

  • @i1b2c3 who the fuck can compare two different but excellent singers? both perfect in there music and stile !! exceptional talents and voices !! hope wee will have in the future something at least close to them !!

  • His daughter spoke to my Performance Workshop class(I'm Music Media) and some of my friends'(who r Music Ed) Performance class yesterday at Norfolk State.I am honored I got a chance t'see someone who was that close to him. Also this is m favorite song by him.

  • This song made my night! Thanks James Brown.

    God Bless!

  • thanks for the video great live show

  • Elvis Presley? His game was lame. At best he was a mediocre imitator -- not in the same league as Mr. Brown. James Brown put his ass to shame.

  • Ya know I'm a huge fan of Elvis Presley but since I started investigating James Brown through the eyes of musician/composer, I have to agree with you. Elvis had talent, and his band was good, but not as good as James Brown. James Brown's band was so good, it bordered insanity. They put the per in perfection. Elvis' band did what they were naturally good at. JB's were good when James hired them, then he made em even better. Masculinity, sexuality, power, prestige = James Brown - all by himself :)

  • anybody knows what year this was? thanks

  • TJRMultimedia you're a racist

  • yeah and i think i heard something about Elvis being real sick...hope he pulls through...that white boy can dance!!

  • I like the fact that James brown intergrated his band near the end. Its all about marketng. Anyway, those white brothas be gettin down! Show nuff Funky.

  • Ever hear of the Dapps?

  • The JB's were probably half dead by this time... And you know this band was gettin down, the brotha on the guitar was gettin down, and especialy the sax was gettin down! Gettin down like James Brown!

  • @TJRMultimedia they were good enough for James so I don't know just who the fuck you think you are since the Godfather of Soul has a notorious reputation as a drill sergeant when it comes to who is qualified to be in his band.

If you were actually anything other than a bigot, you might just respect that da Godfather can make up his own damn mind. And before you try and start in on me, my neighborhood used to be about 80% black, although now it's more like 65%. Gentrification hittin round here

  • James was on the decline then when he let the cracker in! The real james didnt like crackers in his band!

  • @TJRMultimedia Tim Drummond was the bassist in the James Brown Orchestra from 1967-68, was with him on the famous Boston Garden show

  • I love how he intergrates blacks and whites into his group. it shows how far we've come, he is a great example of what we can do if all just work togther and get along

  • Comment removed

  • @bluelibra65 Ok, heres were you're wrong mr. im an asshole so i start shit on youtube.

Since i was refering to this video. And this video was in the present intergrates was a correct form of the word.

But enough for your english lesson

I said i love how he intergrated people into his band. Look at the people. See black and white.A long time ago you would have never seen that. I didnt say anyone got along with him im sayin blacks and whites have come a long way to be able to do things like this.

  • If you guys like this song, you should really check out the video I made for it. With a mash up of clips all of James at his best.

  • Love James Brown. Sinatra, Elvis, James Brown and Michael Jackson. Everybody else...just want to be (s). Freaks of nature (all) to be sure, oui. Arent we all? Watch my feet. Was that too fast? Inner city integrated boy here. So shoot me. Now, get up off of that thing. White boys can jump!

    Bonsoir.

  • unbeleivable!!!

  • man that waz cool

  • The Greatest Entertainer who Ever Lived!!!

    All Hail The Godfather!!!!

  • he will forever be "KING OF SOUL" his voice, dancing and his super band, WOW

  • how old was he here?....still busting out the signature moves, unbelievable

  • I saw him the year before he died, he was like what? 72 and the man still danced like that it was insane.

  • he's dead?

  • yeah he died a couple of years ago.

  • You just found out? He died on Christmas day 2006.

  • yeah, i didn't know that! xD poor james =S

  • THE KING OF SOUL IS HERE!!!

  • 2:42 :]

  • James Brown is called the "Godfather of Soul" due to his many "Blaxploitation

(1970's) movie soundtracks Also his overwhelming influence on soul, rap, rythym and blues, rock and roll and other musicica genres. He was also a perfectionist, control freak and shot caller, in short "The Boss," just like a Mafia or other gang boss.

  • Completely true and agreed,

Most people refer "Godfather" to the movie "The Godfather" made in 1972, which covers up it's original meaning.

A godfather is someone that will replace your real father when he dies in a accident for example.

In this context, calling him "Godfather of Soul" is absolutely right and true

  • James Brown dubbed him self the Godfather of soul, It was on the label of The Payback album in 1973. I remember always reading JAMES'S LP & 45'S , he went from the king of soul to soul brother number one to the godfather to in 75 the minster of the new new super heavy funk, TOO FUNNY AND TOO COOL!

  • @162berto JB was among the very, very, very few whose self-proclaimed greatness was welcomed by the fans. Little Richard is another example...Terence Trent D'Arby? Not so much.

  • omg his energy...

    the king

  • RIP

  • RIP

  • AWESOME SAX SOLO

  • that's all!

  • rockin soul captain of the universe.......

    no one like him ever............

  • Something I've been wondering...

Why's he called the godfather of soul?

Who's the king of soul then?

  • In the dictionary it says...

a powerful leader, esp. of the Mafia.

a person who is regarded as the originator or principal shaper of a movement, school of thought

I guess maybe its that - also the "godfather" is also associated with the Mafia, and he's always been rather badass... Not got the most sterling reputation with the law.

  • there are some ppl that have dubbed otis redding as king of soul.

  • maestro

  • Immortal father of the soul.

  • The god father of soul ,Mr James Brown!

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Rest in peace Bro. Dixon. I remember all the years we were on the road, sorry you never made it back to the band, James was excited you were coming back. What a shame man! My daughter is taking up drums now, wish you were still here to show her how it's done.

  • R.I.P GOD FATHER OF SOUL.

  • the groove is there....

  • Hope I have half of his energy and passion when I'm that age. All hail The Godfather!

  • I just love stumbling on these fantastic videos of THE KING OF FUNK JAMES BROWN! I am always stunned by his pure perfection. He forever changed Music. R.I.P. James Brown.

  • You could feel the dynamic energy coming from the stage when he was in action. It was pure masculinity, pure music, pure power, and pure perfection. James had only the best musicians because he wouldn't settle for anything less. Because of his own ear for music and talent, no one, and I mean no one, will ever touch him. R.I.P. Mr. Brown. We'll never forget you.

  • hes still good

  • HELL TRUE...

    Sigh...

    wut a great artist...

  • I think what he's trying to say is: "Even at an older age, he was still great."

A comment which I can totally agree with.

  • Soul can't die.

  • The King of Get Down, James Brown...

  • DAMN, HOW DO YOU CALL THAT?

  • FUNK!!
