Beautiful song Johnny. I hope you don't mind if I dedicate it to my brother John and his wife Donna, the most enduring voyagers that I know. Alison McMahon
About poetry I can say I love the works of William Butler Yeats. And as for Ireland? This land is blessed, as I wrote on a postcard sent to friends in The Hague when I visited it the first time. I want to emigrate to Ireland and find a nice cottage and hopefully an Irish woman. Hope to see you Irish women and men in a pub or elsewhere.
When we started the journey there was just me and you, now, gathered round us, we have our own crew means to me a man and a woman, first together with two, but now with children of their own around them. This song really makes me cry. It touches my heart and soul! Some other Irish songs do that as well, like Kilkelly by Mick Moloney.
As a Dutchman I fell in love with Ireland, it's people and it's music ( and let's not forget Guinness! ). My cousin Eric and his wife Karin once gave me ( music addicted man ) a self-made compilation CD with this song on it. I immediately got hit by it's simple but beautiful melody and of course the great lyrics. Sentimental? No, a very deep touching song! My English is quite good but I remember I had to look up the meaning the word Doldrums.
excellent !!!!!!!!! this illustrates that a singer doesn't have to be roaring and screaming to be heard! this goes straight to the heart!!! thanks a million for posting!
think he is Declan Sinnot, seen christy clonmel on saturday with declan who will be playing munster with his own band shortly. sorry can't remember name of band at the minute
Sry for ur loss BOYBDEAD.. but i 2 wud like this 2 be played at me own funeral..just 4 it 2 convey the love i have 4 my babies.. my better half.. friends and family.. remember 'Our Journey'.. long may it last..
At last Christy live singing the Voyage and what a performance. And the man that wrote it is there with Christy too...What a night. God I wish I could have been there to. Superb!!!!!!!!!!!
hi John, Was a bit dissapointed with the exception of el savador there was very little written about johnny album "current affairs" from the eighties in his new book "to the light" This was a great album and I thought a great success for him.
Glad you liked it. If you listen to the author's (Johnny Duhan) version which is up on Youtube, at the end of that video you will hear Johnny express his gratitude to Christy for having popularized the song. A great lyric with a beautiful melody. If you want to learn more about the writing of that song, and his other well known songs, I recommend you buy Johnny's new book for all your friends as Christmas present, called TO THE LIGHT. Brilliant read!!
What a song! Emotionel superb! Reminding us of fellowship and commitment!
Well done Christy and Johnny, and band!
