George Orwell was a member of the fabian society along with GBS and was dismayed and appalled about the elites plans for the world. Consequently he wrote his msterpiece 1984 which is a work of fact not fiction.Big brother is everywhere..War means Peace -(Obamas Nobel peace prize) New World Order, endless war on terror etc etc.
@RSFO Homage to Catalonia is so good that , even though concentration is not known to me, I have read it three times and I am readying my steady bear for another glow.
@RSFO I think all his work was terrific. Everyone knows him just for Animal Farm and 1984 and a few others know Homage to Catalonia. But all his work really was an amazing satire of the time. I think my favorite work by him was Keep the Aspidistra Flying.
Solzhenitsyn wrote in The First Circle that a country with a great writer is like having a second government. Orwell was integrity in the flesh, Christ how we need his like today!
Sonia did not profess that she loved him. She was not the only woman to whom he proposed marriage late in his life. He told these women that it may be to their advantage to be a relatively rich literary widow. He also needed help to arrange all of his papers after his passing. I wouldn't think that intimacy was too much on his mind as he married her in the hospital he was never to leave, within 2-3 months of his death.
Sorry, but I think Sonia, Orwell's wife for the last few weeks of his life, was a bit of a gold-digger. I really love Orwell and his work, and so hate to think he was taken advantage of by Sonia. I hope there was some intimacy between them, but I doubt it. Orwell gave to the world far more than he took. Not the same can be said for Sonia. Did she not get into another relationship a couple weeks after Orwell died? She became very wealthy on the back of Orwell's labours.
I wish he'd lived till June.... What happened to his son?

Closely listen to an Inception dvd made before the January 8th Tucson shooting, especially around the dialogue, "Do It."

'Road to Wiggan Pier' and 'Down and Out' are both each a great read.

Documentary says June 21st, in te description it says January 21st. Other sources indicate January, so the narrator made a mistake.

Tuberculosis, living rough, getting shot in the throat, the general hardships of life 70 years ago do tend to have that effect.

It is not clear what better use he could have put his wealth to than this. It seemed a mutually beneficial arrangement.

who was the narrator? it sounds a lot like Michael Gambon, but I'm not sure; thanks.
ludificor 4 years ago
@ludificor no, not Gambon, with him you are left in no doubt, I'm to much of a fan of his to let an hour go by without noticing.
