Best Ed Movie nutshell yet

You saw beyond the "fleeing" plot

It was about Eddy trying to reunite with his brother and Edd finally snapping back at Eddy for the trouble Eddy gives him.

Eddy's always been trying to follow in his brother's footsteps and has always fallen short

Meanwhile, Double D has always been there for Eddy even though it affects his relationship with his parents. The movie embraces the friendship the three have, which is why the writer's put in the friendship song at the end.

Just went through the comments to read your opinion on the movie and I know what you mean about the background music... I've heard it was last minute and they had barely any budget left, but I feel like Patric still could've tried harder to match the emotion of the scenes. It probably would've been better to just leave the scenes silent or even reuse music from the much more emotively scored Jingle Jingle Jangle. I don't have too many problems with the character stuff in the movie, though.

I think pretty much every problem in the movie ties back to "they needed more time and money." An extra half hour could have potentially fleshed out the weaker elements of the story. Most of the side stories don't end up really going anywhere because the kids go back to focusing entirely on the Eds at the end. Perhaps the story would've been stronger if most of the characters had stayed together, I think they got the best treatment at the beginning and end of the story.

It stuns me how a show like Ed, Edd and Eddy lacks money for the production of, basicly, 4 episodes. The art style, animation, music or story wasn't different from any regular episode; just what did they need the cash for.

@TheBestKindOfFailure The story is they had no experience making a movie, so when Act 1 came back from animation, it was way too long and it turned out they used too much of the budget on it. So they couldn't cut any of that animation and Acts 2 and 3 had to be trimmed down severely, getting rid of some important scenes. The artists were hardly even getting paid by the end of it.

I was glad they acknowledged the factory behind the cul-de-sac, but it definitely could've used some trimming.

Nevertheless, they always storyboard the whole thing, so it's a bit strange they found this out when it was too late. I don't know how long "too long" is, but I wouldn't mind a 2 hour Ed, Edd and Eddy movie.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they didn't find out during the animatic, I guess something misled them about the pacing at some point... The intro to the movie was even different at one point, but they changed it to just backgrounds and simple animation to cut down the cost, so it sounds like production was kinda jumbled up. CN wouldn't let them do anything longer than 90 minutes, though, and I think it's already longer than any other CN movie even with everything they deleted.

Most likely, and to be honest, I didn't have to see Ed, Edd and Eddy's whole journey. Especially the factory was a rather pointless scene when you think about it. The movie was long enough, but it was obvious on which characters they were focussing on. And that bothers me.

The side story with Kevin and Nazz could've been great, just to name an example.

I dunno, personally I loved the movie. This show was my childhood, and that movie was like a closure to it. We finally got to see Eddy's demented older brother, Eddy admitted that he can be a chump, and the neighbor kids finally accepted them. I was really expecting them to get beaten up right before they could reach Eddy's brother, cuz that would have been the typical Ed Edd 'n Eddy ending. And Eddy has always been my favorite.

Not really, since I did so many times.

But I hated the cheap music; even though it's exactly the style of the show, it felt rushed. If it wasn't rushed, I'd like to hear from the creators why they thought it was a good idea to play cheery, upbeat music when Ed and Eddy were "dying", Edd was crying his heart out, Edd and Eddy's fight, and Eddy breaking down, which were clearly important elements in the movie.

I didn't like Kevin's sudden bike-love; he always liked Nazz, but in this movie he was just a complete moron. Someone else I didn't like, was Jonny, who had no purpose and neither a (good) role to play in this movie.

Another bothersome issue is that Ed hardly had any purpose, and this movie might as well be about just Edd and Eddy. He was only there to serve as their traveling mule, or to fill up the empty spaces the writers had in their script. He had nothing of importance to say.

And directly afterwards he was stuffed away in the background, like he was before he did this.
