How does John know that god is willing everything? Because it's in the bible? I really wonder why people take this book as a credible source for truth!
Don't you have standards for what is reasonable and true, and apply them to all things you encounter that claim to tell you truth?
If jesus came out today saying what he did, he would be seen as crazy.
The only thing that legitimizes the bible is the bible itself. That's not a formula for a book written by god, I wouldn't say.
@flaccidpackage John Piper even believes that IF Jesus isn't God, He was crazy. Also, in case you are really interested, and not just an Internet debater... Go to Desiring God's website and search for "Why we believe the Bible." You will see a 72 page PDF or you can watch a 5 part video series (part 4 is my favorite).
A short promo for this series is on youtube... /watch?v=lNT-l9dmJ98
@bobwiley4 Its because of the claims Jesus made. Either what he was saying was true or he was insane or a deciever. What he was saying was certainly truth, he is the Word and the truth and the light.
Jesus *would* be seen as crazy, w/o a doubt - He was in His time. If you're talking about whether event X happened as told in the Bible, that is a different type of question from how it appeals to people. And a reasonable standard requires an understanding of the POVs of its many authors. Otherwise, we will be in danger of reading our expectations into it.
Knowing the Bible is like knowing a friend - it points *beyond itself*, to Christ
beautifully said!

Because it has the ring of truth.
