I don't mean to sound like a noob, but I don't get it. Sheryl was James kid, before she was lost in silent hill, but I thought she died. So really she was just reincarnated as that baby, with brown hair as Heather, so heather is Alessa, still with a dark side, but now okay with calling herself Sheryl. If I'm wrong, well mah bad. Gotta love the mixture of standard endings in all three. First one with the feeling of finally over but the darkness remains tight, second one with tremendous sadness and loss, third one with a bit of light and relieved happiness with a brighter future ahead.
