@mikldude 1100 shaft horsepower, range is 310 nautical miles. Can't tell you much about fuel consumption except that the twin engine AH-1W, or the Whiskey, will fly for 2 1/2 to 3 hours on internals.
@raulrusboy Uh, the Whiskey and Apache both only have two stations on each stubwing. They both can only carry a set amount of ordnance. How do you figure the Apache is "more capable"???
Awesome, just shot photos of this very same Cobra (different paint scheme now) last weekend at McChord AFB, Washington, and I know the pilot... sweet!
_____Doesn't he look like the guy from RED DWARF? Nah, he seems more like that guy from a James Bond movie. Just imagine how the briefing would go with M--talking about a lone millionaire madman and his personal collection of military hardware. No doubt, he's got a casino on his grounds and midget-butlers with amazing fighting skills. One of them probably has a metal-rimmed bowler-hat that can break dude's necks if thrown. So, question is, what's this guy's master-plan toward world conquest?
when the door was open. Army made a big mistake, IMHO, when it went to the flat-plate canopy. They also passed on the offer by Bell to convert them to basically a Whiskey configuration. Wanted the Apache. I was offered Apaches (all Cobra pilots eventually converted to Apache at some point) but in those early days they were crap and most guys flew the simulator. Loved the Cobra and wanted to stay in it as long as possible. Finished my time still flying them out of Bliss. Great chopper!
I flew these babies for 6 1/2 years, mainly up in Alaska. I kept pinching myself that I was getting paid to fly these things. Front seat is a kick in the pants to fly in. Side stick control like an F-16, wrap-around vision. Going low and fast in the front seat is a total rush. In '89 Alaska still had the Mod S model...round canopies, 7.62 mini-gun, and 40mm grenade launcher. Much more aerodynamic, easier to keep in trim, but heavy as hell door that would crush your fingers if it less loose
damn straight, fly it like you stole it. one decommished parked at my local military base, one stormy dark night me and a flat bed truck are going to make it disappear for good...
ok i will so how long is the line or sould i pull out my smg and a few frags to shorten my wait loool or wait i know just go find a rich guy willing ot give one away loool

Yea, where can you go to find a ride in somethin like this?? I know at the Dayton AS you can pay like $50 or so for a ride in a UH-1 Huey, there every year. What I would give just for a short ride in the gunners seat of one of those!!
Go to Courtesy aircraft, there is a TAH-1 cobra, de milled but with Sights, all avionics, has flown in movies/Tv shows, less than one million I believe. Airworthy
the new ones are a little wider but I like the slim look of the older ones. Looks more dagerous and down to buisness when your staring head on at one, for some reason.
Lulzlulul, I served starting in 1981. Back then we still used the AH-1G model in the regular Army. The Blackhawk came on board during the late 80's. And it was very Nice!
I know. Got confused, I thought you were talking about the AH-1W Super Cobra in the Marines. They still use the UH-1 Huey in the USMC as a light attack helicopter, which is kind of a downside. Lol.
Nice. I'm looking foward to piloting the AH-1W in the Marines, - my life long dream. the Apache can see enemies in full detection up to five miles away though, right?
I am sorry that I can not recall the specs for the offensive capabilities of the Apache, it has been to many years. Best of luck in your quest to be a Cobra driver. There is no feeling like having that much power in your hands. Army Aviation! Above the Rest!
army is for the trash that dont qualify for the usmc. weight standards are just sooo low, i only see fat people in the army and navy, never never the marines. thw best of the best. OHRAH!
AMAZING! That's one fortunate guy! Has it still got a gunner's seat fitted for passengers I wonder? Obviously no fire control etc. but it would be an awesome ride!
Ahhh, the Cobra is just a thin bodied Huey!!! But the Uh1 huey is a great chopper too so...

Wow, thats a first gen. Are the twin engine not available to the public? Not that it matters, I would love to have that parked in my yard.
Power5 1 year ago
@Power5 I doubt it... The Whiskey model Cobra's are nearly as capable as the Apache... And less weight-restricted.

LuiSS95Impala 11 months ago
@LuiSS95Impala Because it has Target Acquisition radar, and a 30mm cannon. None of the cobra's turrets can match it.

that is a digital timer we use for airshow acts. It is way modern compared to the old wind up clock with arms.
