had my first game this day the only thing i had to say to get my team to win was "Guys, let's do this for Harry." we ended u winning the game and giving a tribute to Harry R.I.P
I remember being 12 years old mowing grass for some extra money and I would have my walkman tuned to the Phillies and listening to Harry Kalas. When I was 27 and they won the World Series, it didn't even sink in until I heard the Harry Kalas replay. You will forever be our voice and we will always love you.
i would give ANYTHING to hear harry call halladays no hitter this postseason. i know for a fact harry would be halladays #1 fan. you will always hold a special place in my heart harry. RIP
I used to intern for the Phils and I will never forget when LA and Harry would practice their pre-game thing...LA would mess around and Harry would just laugh. Harry is still missed...especially during the post season time!!
i met larry anderson this year. he shook my hand. he gave me my rally towel. when i saw him my dad was like do you know who that is and i was like larry andersen and he was like hey how'd you know who i was kid, and i said i heard you on the radio and seen you on tv before. then he said nice meeting you kid.
I had been listening to the radio in my car (while I was driving) during the time of his death. I had to pull over, as tears engulfed my eyes and face. Hearing LA upset and loss for words... man this still makes me cry.
You couldn't get depressed watching Harry or listening to him. Even when the Phillies were in the toilet which was often in the last 20 years, Harry and Whitey always made it a wonderful experience to watch the games on TV or listen to them on the radio. They don't make broadcasters like Harry anymore.
What I loved about Harry was the fact that even if it was the last day of the season and the Phillies were way out of the running, he still called the game with unbelievable passion and made you care up until the last pitch.
HK said it was an honor and joyful experience to call Phillies games for the fans. Well Harry, the joy and honor was all ours. We still and will always miss you!
Whitey Ashburn would probably roll in his grave at this comment (he disliked pitchers).
Larry Andersen was the best successor (there is no replacement) to His Whiteness, and was really close to Harry. It was really apparent that there was strong chemistry between the two.
I was in tears all evening on April 13, 2009. I knew the dreaded day was coming soon, but not that soon!
