Am St helens lad of 53< was 16 when saw The Train at Theatre Royal in 74 or 75. too far back to remember but can anyone out there verify or explode the following? A carpet fitter we once employed claimed affinity with the Blessed Norm, and claimed that in a Corporate buy/sell out, all Gravy Train rights ended up, with Beatles stuff, in hands of Michael Jackson? Fab Four Boys' gravy on Michael Jackson's hands? I simply wont believe it . . .
Gravy Train's music is timeless. They were the epitome of everything that was, and still is, great about the British prog/hard rock scene. Norman Barratt's vocals and guitar style put him into a league of his own. I'm really very grateful and thankful that I was exposed to Gravy Train in the early 70's, as the band's music will stay with me until I go to the happy hunting grounds! Thanks for this, and all the other Gravy Train postings.
I remember that they had esculated to the stage where their T Shirts were being displayed for sale by the major clothing sellers in the national music press, along side the mega bands of the time. They were at the point of breaking into the big league, which hardly substansiates the idea that they wanted to settle down? As his grandson I respect that you may take exception to my comment and for that I appologise. What ever the reason for the split it was a great loss of a great band.
Tell ya uncle Norm that im at 53 in my collection now....i want that 335 he's put away for ya...lol say hello and btw- tell him i still can't play a note...lol Pove!
it was being totally ripped off that lead to garvytrains fold, their albums have been and still are available to this day but the band have NEVER received a single penny in royalties,
It was Barratt's genius that pulled this band to the edge of mega stardom and it was his religious fanaticism that pulled it's future from under its feet.
nope it wasnt, it was being totally ripped off that lead to garvytrains fold, their albums have been and still are available to this day but the band have NEVER received a single penny in royalties,
@johnnysoundcraft If I am not mistaking, you are Norman Barratt's son. Could you help me find out the lyrics of "a ballad of a peaceful man". I can't hear the chorus clearly, and I really like the song. Thank you
