It is really good that you teach your kids gardening and indulge them in small gardening activities. Children should learn farming techniques as they grow. It would be a useful hobby for them.
I've never really planted tomatoes on hills, do they do better on hills or does it really matter? I'm always looking for a better way to do things, I've learned a lot so far from our videos.
@jude1c9v ... unless you have drainage problems, it's really not necessary to plant on rows. Here in Louisiana it's just about a have too. Rows do hold moisture during a dry spell so they would help just about anywhere........ Donald
thats it get them invloved i loved gardning and growing things when i was young im now a farmer and i have no farming background i grow arable crops i have live stock and and grow produce for farmers markets and the farm shop that we own.
Loved the video, awesome family you have there.. Question, do you farm and sell your veggies like a farmers markets, or is it for your own pantry. I love your gardening skills. But teaching your grandkids is tops.
I supply the family with all the vegs. they can use then I sell some to help pay the expenses. I sell from home, works out pretty well........... Donald
donald is that ur grandchildren , they are beautiful, i love to see that u have a strong family ties , ur been BLESS with so many ways, praying GOD will bless u & ur family long life & good heatlh so u wiil continue helping people everywhere arround the world !!
Yes those are the grandkids. Trying to teach them a little about gardening while they're young. Thanks for the kind words and God bless........ Donald
Hope it stops raining cause it will hurt them. All that rain really hurt my potatoes and onions. Not a good spring this year for the garden......... Donald
I know i've been sending alot of comments lately, but i love your videos.
I'm gonna make some of those tomato cages you had in one of your videos. Well I wanted to know how long are those t-post that you are using, and how far should I drive them into the ground? Also By the looks of it i might of planted my tomato plants to close to each other. How far apart is recommended? One more thing. you don't rocommend keeping tomato plants in pots? thanks for the vid. it looked fun.
The T post are 6 ft. long and depending on your soil they need to be at least 12 inches in the ground. I planted my tomatoes 6 ft. apart and I now have some that are touching each other. Tomatoes can be planted in pots, if the pots are large enough. Otherwise they won't grow or produce as well. I prefer planting them in the ground....... Donald
Well, we got 9 - 13 inches of rain here in the northwest part of Houston this last week so we are floating off! My 'maters are doing ok though and didn't get damaged by the high winds. They already set fruit so we will have to see what comes of that. Luckily, we have a host of earthworms so if I wanted to go fishing I wouldn't have any problems finding bait. I guess we must be doing something right. Thanks for the vids. Keep 'um comin'.
I to have heard of some people using it and can't remember right off hand why. I don't use it and my tomatoes grow pretty well. Could just be my soil doesn't need it. I believe a little fertilizer and consistent watering is the most important factors in getting a good harvest. In the past, too much rain has hurt me more than anything else....... Donald
Mr webcajun, I transplanted my tomatos into pots yesterday and some of them fell over. Do you think that they just got a little shocked and will come out of it? What a beautiful family you have. Take care.
My guess is the ones that fell over are finished. Why don't you start them in the pots to begin with? I don't have much luck when it comes to transplanting from trays to pots. Guess I'm just not careful enough. LOL ...... Donald
I got a little green house with 72 cells in it back in feb. I have not tryed to grow anything in 30 years. This was more of an experiment for me. After watching how much fun you were having I decided to have some fun myself. Anyway I still have at least 9 tomato plants that I think are going to make it. Thank you so much for your advice.
this vid reminded me of my days of helping my grandparents in their garden. "pops" had "big massey" (what he always called it) making the rows and grandma taught me how to plant the seeds and told stories about her childhood in Mississippi.
the little cajuns sure plant a mean 'mater. Nice to see everybody working together. Think I'm going to plant my tomatoes and peppers today, if the rain holds off. Pray to the rain gods to wait till dark to visit.
I have yet to meet a kid that didn't like digging in the dirt and playing in the garden. :) Thanks for sharing your family with us! Looks like it was a good day.
Hi center This is Jerry Bakers recipe for Cutworm Tonic: 1 cup Murphys Oil Soap

i was so proud of myself, i bought some onion plants at the store and planted them. Mainly because watching your videos made me feel like i could do it. :) THANKS :) (i also planted tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, squash and other yummy stuff...but its the first time for the onions.)
Thanks again, Donald...I really enjoy your videos. They inspire me and show me that i CAN do it...with a little muscle and determination. We all can do it. :):)
Cool, i used to love dying eggs when i was a kid. :-)
Is that you in the black shirt putting the stakes into the ground? Can barely recognize you without your hat. Cute little cajun's. Thats mammy cajun talking right? What are you feeding them getalong pills? As children me and my brothers and sisters would have been fighting over how to plant them and how much soil. Hehe One last question, what kind of soil do you have mostly sand or clay?
You're welcome. Each one planted a tomato so I told them that was their plant and they could have all the tomatoes to eat. They were excited...... Donald
