Beautiful! Thanks for this video. I've been told that this was the place to visit. And to do it soon before it becomes overdeveloped and expencive... Awesome!
@BECARINA1 Hehe, I'm a fan! I was amazed too, not just a country this beautiful, but the people there as well (men and women) are all tall and good looking. It's like they were lucky and got the best of everything there.
great movie. to those who liked the traditional Dalmatian song that played during the film search "klape", "cambi" and it will lead you on. pitty you havent seen island resorts "Kornati national park" Islands Hvar, Brac, Vis....
We visited Vis and Bisevo but only had one week - Check out the other video I uploaded from the trip. Definitely next time I hope to spend more time on the islands. Vis was great!
I ran across this video when I was net-surfing. I didn't know about Croatia at all, but now I am dying to visit the country! Thanks for sharing your great experience!
I ordered this yesterday and it arrived but when i'm indoors with adequate light, the screen seems.. staticky or pixely, hopefully that makes sense, has anyone experienced this? my panasonic camcorder does not do this so I am just wondering if I got a system with a glitch.
Dubrovnik is great, but I got some advice that prooved worthwhile, which is to get in to the old city as early as possible in the morning (we arrived at 8am), and get out by lunch. It fills up during the day with cruise liner passangers and gets unbelievably crowded - but in the morning or the off season when you can take your time, the place is magic. It fully deserves to be on the UNESCO world heritage list. Glad you enjoyed it, mate! Thanks for the comment.
I heard great things too, and needed a bit of an escape. It came down to Costa Rica or Croatia, but this was a great choice (surfing in Costa Rica is something I have had on my to do list since watching Endless Summer II). I can't recommend the place enough.
Croatia looks gorgeous. Its always amazing to see new places and experiance different cultures. Someday I will do the same. You have a lovely wife by the way. One more thing...did you sample any wines from there. I have never heard of any Crotian wine. I am sure they have their own. Great video.
iluvwine13 (love the handle!), Croatia was amazing. And yes, Croatia has fantastic wines - while it may not have many famous labels, many of the best Aussie and Kiwi wines are made by Croatian migrants. I tried wine everywhere I went, but the best stuff I was some white from Vis island. Can't remember the label, but the place makes great wine - lots of sun, stony soil. Worth looking out for. Thanks for the comment!
Most times you find better wines that are not famous! Traditional stuff is always better than famous massed produced stuff. By the way, I enjoy Marlborough Savignon Blanc and Pinot Noirs from the south island and Cental Otaigo. I have not found any Australian wines that I have liked...but thats probably due to the fact that most of them available in The US are commodity wines.
Croatia has crazy cats - people there are very nice to dogs and cats, even strays. I was kinda let down that I didn't see any dalmatian dogs, but nearly every dog I did see was some kind of mongrel with white fur and black spots.
More to come, but I like how this came out. Cheers mate!
We were lucky, we had spectacular weather all week. It was my first vacation in 1 year (I had to work at 正月 and Golden Week), so I though I'd do it right.
Thanks for the comment Kizuman, and keep dancing!
Geographically, it is pretty much exactly that, only the people are all gigantic Slavs. The actual highlight of the trip was a trip to Vis island, that I'll show next week. I think I'll go back and next time, just stay on the islands.
Yeah I think I'd just stay on the islands if I ever went back to Greece. It was fun hanging out in the back streets and seeing all the little shops, especially this little place we bought gyros from.
There are a lot of Croats in NZ and Australia - I had a friend from Split in my class in high school, so I had heard good things about the place before the war. Historically, it was the coast of the Austro-Hungarian empire, so 90% of the tourists are German, Austrian, Slovak, Slovene and Hungarian people, with the odd cruiseliner also. I never noticed the Back To The Future 2 billboard, but that's a good call!
Thank you, mate! The nature in Croatia was really amazing - the coast is very dramatic, and inland, you have waterfalls, rivers, and lakes, and they are FULL of fish. I couldn't believe it. Next week I will show some of the islands I went to.
Wow! That place was so beautiful with all the waterfalls! <3
I agree about going to smaller towns instead of big cities to find the real beauty of a place/country. Plus, you know a smaller town will be less commercialized and more real than a huge tourist city.
Krka National Park was a real highlight. And you are right, at least for peak summer season - Makarska, Brela and Gradac were toooooo crowded. But best towns were the smallest - Mali Ston, Vis, Drasince. Drasnice was so beautiful, I pulled over just to see what it was. The whole drive between Split and Dubrovnik is great - all the more reason to get a rental car and have the freedom to explore.
Dubrovnik is amazing, but also very popular with tourists. I got some good advice to get there early and leave by lunch when it gets too crowded with people from cruise ships.
I met the band Klapa Ragusavecchia in Dubrovnik when they were playing live. I bought their CD and asked if I could use their music for a vid on YouTube - and they were very nice and said yes, so that makes it extra special. You can see them in my next vid!

Now... I'm reminded of the Surf Vietnam billboard in Back To The Future 2. The sheer contrast.
Looks beautiful.
