Mate I sail a std H18. There is no way I could beat a Tiger downwind if it had its kite up. Without a kite yeah the 18 would beat the Tiger

@justin76bmw I used to have a hobie 18 essex, which had wings. During racing, I would lower my trap line and jump out onto the skippers waist. With his knees bent a litle, it was very easy to stay in this position. We used to win every race like this.With a beter righting moment, my friend said (we called it the system) the system brought him up about 5 degrees higher, with the same speed. No one could touch us.

I also have an 18sx with wings (took them off last year when I replaced a cracked casting for the second time...) I also single hand this boat, but not with a spinnaker (crazy, not stupid)...

The nice thing about the wings is the ease of sailing it single handed and getting newbies to be comfortable, the bad thing is that the design drags the leeward wing in the water when you do a fly the hull more then a few feet (half a meter)... this actually has caused me to capsize! :-)

i have a gopro and i was wondering how you mounted your camera to a spinneker pole or how i could make a mount for it

I just strapped it to the gennacker pole with some foam between the underwaterhousing and the tube..2 straps. easy. No need to mount it fixed I guess. Did the same to other yachts with a windsuf mast aft, that I fixed with ropes to the clamps and aft stay.

I live in Washington State USA and, do most all of my sailing in the Puget Sound just off the Port Townsend mainland and Whidbey island in the Admiralty Straits there, very windy from the Pacific Ocean. I could not even guess how many times we have pitched poled our 18SX, at least once everytime we go out. After the second flip we always call it a day, because the water is very cold.
