  • god of forbidden light is the fucking best

  • time to snuff some cascade mix

  • Fuck yeah man, Edge of Sanity. Fucking win.

  • Wintersun was my favorite. Jari is just amazing, considering he made the album pretty much by himself.

  • Opeth

  • Not sure how amon amarth is classified but they should be in here also, but good picks man thanks!

  • In flames for the fucking win.

  • kalmah is the shit

  • When i saw wintersun there i breathed a sigh of relief.

Absolutely, they definitely deserve a spot there, and that song is definitely a favorite here too.

  • @Moufisto I forgot to add:

Wintersun is also considered Black Metal by some!

Melodic black metal, i guess. But yeah, So that's something to note.

  • @Moufisto Wintersun is nowhere near black metal. Just because the vocals are high means nothing. In fact high vocals are a staple in a lot of melodeath.

  • @Mandalore863 Point taken, but i wasn't saying i considered them black metal; just that some people have been considering them part of such.. also listen to the guitar riffs a little more, it does sound similar to some black metal i've heard as of late O.o

I think, if people came to this song before any other wintersun/godly song on the album, they may think the same.

  • @galvinized8 he meant the song xD! i think... o.O

  • @galvinized8 under the amount of likes. it says the artist is dissection.

  • @Erecson1523 ohhh haha ya it says weeping twilight by in thy dreams sometimes too.

  • i like how it says that the song is by dissection in just under the video in the left corner

  • So there is no Insomnium... and No Kalmah.... ummmmmmm.... two lords of Melodeath?? ... Mortal Share and Heroes To Us/The Groan of Wind should be number 1 and 2

  • @InVerum make your own video. Problem solved.

  • @galvinized8 cool, will check em out!

  • Some of these lyrics are ridiculous.

  • @Dragonforce55kid you dont listen melodeath or most kind of metal for its lyrics....

  • Where Is COB Where Is Kalmah ... ?

  • dude im liking alot of these bands thanks bra

  • dude can u send me the sons of number seven plz

  • wow ur number one riff sucks ass. some of that isnt even melodic death metal. Im not trying to be a dick but damn people really must hear shit different to put that as the number one riff.

  • FUCKING SHIT! Where is Children of Bodom?!!

  • wow i thought i was one of the only guys that really listened to dragonland... supernova is the best song by them anyway

  • @xalos37 they have thousands of views so obviously not bro.

  • Lacking Kalmah.

  • Nice lits btw! I'm starting to learn guitar and this was really helpful!

  • Which song did you use for the intro? Pls i really wana know

  • @LegendaryMusicFreak it is supernova by the band dragonland. It is a power metal band not a melodic death metal band just so you know.

  • @galvinized8 Hey, i don't care what the genre is as long as it has cool guitar riffs ;)

I prefer to see metal as one genre only, instead of 30 different ones.

  • faggotic dick meal

  • @JustinBieberISManlyy Helps when you spell 'Metal' correctly, you inbred mutant ^,^

  • @ShigglySixPounder dick tastes good, meals taste good

  • Y U NO INCLUDE KALMAH & SKYFIRE?

  • ¿Supernova? En un vídeo de Death Metal Melodico... interesante.

  • Awesome list! Am happy to see you included Gyroscope, that's one of my personal favourite melo death riffs too \m/

  • And these bands are Gothenburg Metal, not Melodic Death Metal. Just like alot of people say Satanic Death Metal, its Blackened Death Metal.

  • @Metallicaftwable This may be one of the most moronic comments I have seen on my video, and believe me there have been a lot. Gothenburg is a style of melodic death metal. It is named after the place it originated. It is like saying Bay area thrash is not thrash, it is Bay area music. You are just another ass hole metal kid who nitpicks genres and tries to correct everyone because you think you know everything when in reality you know nothing.

  • @Metallicaftwable Just for the record the only band on here from Gothenburg is In Flames, so it once again proves just how stupid you really are.

  • Dissection is Melodic Black Metal

  • @Metallicaftwable Dissection WAS melodic black metal. There I fixed it for you.

  • um, CARCASS?

  • @JobForATurtle don't even get me started with this shit like I have never heard Carcass or some shit because Heartwork is a god damn masterpiece and I don't need to hear you try to tell me how good they are.

  • @galvinized8 then why weren't they in your count down?

  • @JobForATurtle Because I didn't put them in. It is MY favorite riffs. Just because i didn't put them in doesn't mean that I have never heard of them or think they are great.

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS CHILDREN OF BODOM AND AMOM AMARTH?

  • @Multi666MetalHead666 Learn how to spell Amon Amarth before you spam your caps you little turd. To the maker of this video: NIce to see Blind Stare on this list :) Rather overlooked band.

  • @BlitzkriegNerfTeam hahaha thank you. man people suck.

  • Check out the riffs in Children Of Bodom songs: Shovel Knockout (2 great riffs), Tie My Rope, Pussyfoot Miss Suicide (3 riffs), Smile Pretty for the Devil, Children Of Decadence, In Your Face, etc etc!

  • @GreenMindist The new Bodom album sucks nutsack.

  • Great list. I don't really understand why people hate Reinkaos so much. Of course it doesn't compare with The Somberlain or Storm of the Light's Bane, but standing on it's own, Dissection did a great job with it.

  • @Blashyrkh22 Ya Somberlain and Storm are like a staple for black metal and I think if you look at Reinkaos as a melodic death metal album instead of black metal I think its a very good album with some sort of lame moments.

  • No Kalmah? One of fail.

  • All wintersun riffs are amazing, not only in Beautiful Death x)

  • @cohone86 Well I couldn't really use all of them could I? Haha. I'm sure there are riffs that i like better than some of the ones on here but i didnt want to use two from one band

  • @galvinized8 haha yes, i understand you, i think i have explained wrong, i only wanted to say that wintersun is amazing, not that you have to use a lot of more riffs from wintersun in this video. forgive my explanation :)

  • @cohone86 Wish I could have used all the Winterun riffs but that would have made a boring video hahaha. They are my favorite band. I understood your explanation btw, and didn't mean to sound like an ass.

  • Old In Flames... I miss them so much!! Check out Insomnium: Good substitute!

  • Synthesizers do not belong in death metal. This is kiddy music.

  • This is good, I don't hear most of these awesome bands. Thanx.

  • Edge Of Sanity <3

  • no Children of Bodom?

  • incassum-History Repeats

    very good sound

  • such bad taste

  • @hugoshooter so what do you recommend?

  • @galvinized8 i think he would reccomend beiber or some gay shit... personally this is good shit! melodic death is the shit!

  • YEsssss Gyroscope

  • @galvinized8 kekeke loser :p

  • too bad the best melodic band is not there KALMAH

  • @lambishh Too bad I don't give a shit if you think Kalmah is the best.

  • @galvinized8 keke lol retard :p

  • @lambishh you are hella right man kalmah #1 on my list

  • @DamianKenny8 Why does everyone love Kalmah so much? They are great and everything, but I can't really think of any riffs that particularly stand out as being something unique or really interesting. They write good songs and riffs but nothing that really stands out.

  • @galvinized8 I don't know other to say you are tone death for their music. I like it cause its awesome guitar and riffs and longness. To me their music makes me have an eargasm

  • @DamianKenny8 Well I'm not saying people are wrong for liking them because people like what they like, and music is opinion based. Its just strange how many people come to defend Kalmah considering they aren't the most well known band. I can see people asking where bands like at the gates are because they were groundbreaking but idk the whole Kalmah thing is just weird to me.

  • @DamianKenny8 I appreciate the mature response too. Most people are complete ass holes when it comes to music and really was just looking for your opinion on them. I wasn't trying to say there was no reason to like them.

  • @galvinized8 thanks. believe me i know when it comes to opinions. Think of the guys that like that... that pop artist lol

  • @galvinized8 true that it's all taste, but cmon, their riffs absolutely destroy and they can shred.

  • @thevillageyid Kalmah can shred? Clearly you aren't all that familiar with the term shred. (see Wintesun and Obscura) Solos are mostly pentatonic stuff and nothing all that flashy. Again, they write great riffs and I probably would have used the Godeye chorus riff or the bridge riff in One of Fail but 12 Gauge had not come out yet when I made this video. I have nothing against Kalmah, but like a lot of other melo death bands, they are just rehash of At the Gates and old In Flames.

  • @galvinized8 ohh so sorry for using the wrong term. I just meant that they know how to play their instruments well. And to say they are a rehash of At the Gates and old In Flames is just silly.

  • @thevillageyid My point was to say that they aren't doing anything new. They are very good at what they do and are a great band that I like very much but they aren't what I would call unique by any means.

  • @galvinized8 I get what you're saying but I totally disagree. Name one band that sounds like Kalmah.

  • @thevillageyid Skyfire and old CoB are very similar to Kalmah.

  • @Blashyrkh22 Ya I would say pre-esoteric skyfire is a really good comparison. Esoteric is its own brand kind of slower melodeath more like omnium gatherum or eternal tears of sorrow.

  • @thevillageyid well no band sounds exactly like any other band but bands that could be compared are: Norther, Children of Bodom, Ensiferum, Dark Tranquillity, Catamenia, Amon Amarth, among others. I'm just saying people talk about them like they are this groundbreaking band when they really aren't. All those bands I listed were formed before Kalmah. What I'm saying is Kalmah was not/is not a trend setter, they are a really REALLY good follower.

  • @galvinized8 Fair enough. I agree that they aren't groundbreaking, but they do have a pretty unique sound, and they have a certain epicness to their songs. Hopefully, their next album will have a tinge of progressiveness to it, if they're into that sort of thing.

  • @thevillageyid I would, however, admit that Godeye is one of my favorite melodic death metal songs EVER. To summarize, I would describe Kalmah as a riff machine that produces great music, but not doing anything different. They deserve a spot on any list of melodeath but I am just so surprised about how many people complain that Kalmah is not on here.

  • vital remains? thats pure death metal dude not melodic, but cool list!

  • @TheMightyWet Thanks. I know Vital Remains are DEFINITELY not a melodic death metal band, but the riff itself is a melodic one. If they played riffs like that all the time they would be a melodic death metal band. I really doing melodic riffs by any type of death metal band.

  • @galvinized8 oh cool! :) bloodbath has some awesome melodic riffs also, you should give em a listen if you havent already

  • @TheMightyWet ya i love bloodbath. Peter Tagtgren and Mikael Akerfeldt did vocals how can you go wrong? haha

  • Well.....I'm fucking glad I'm not the only one to know about in thy dreams....btw I think this is their best song too

  • i was expecting to see the black dahlia

  • kalmah???????

  • @BrutalRussianBear we have already been over this....you already asked me why I didn't put Kalmah in and I already told you why.

  • @BrutalRussianBear man i am sorry i forgot this hahaha...that happens sometimes

  • @BrutalRussianBear hahaha no worries.

  • in flames <3

  • Archeon

  • @galvinized8 but you could put some other kalmah songs before the 12 gauge...btw nice video :)

  • @BrutalRussianBear Idk there are only ten riffs here none of Kalmah's came to mind when I made it. I love Kalmah though.

  • @galvinized8 that's ok...but in your next video put kalmah \m/ ..if u want :)

  • hey where's kalmah????

  • WOO Gates of Ishtar and Dissection

  • does dethklok count as melodic death metal?

  • @trampsterD I would say so although not a traditional one haha.

  • DRAGONLAND!!!

  • look for INSOMNIUM . in each song they have amazing riff . i love that band just because of those riffs \m/

  • @neznanec14 Mortal Share could be on any list of good riffs and no one could argue.

  • Good list. Gyroscope's riff is perfect. Extra points for throwing Wintersun in.

  • what about At The Gates, they ARE Melodic Death Metal

    Good list through

  • @TheKronos37 Ya they are a pioneer of the genre. I just thought it would be too easy to pick them haha. All their riffs are great I couldn't choose one.

  • Dude Next Video. Put in : Pendulum by Fallen Fate. Best Riff ive ever heard. LISTEN TO THEM! THEY NEED SUPPORT!!!!

  • Gorud is technical Death metal xD

  • @D4rkallyet I agree, but these are melodic death metal riffs by all kinds of bands not necessarily from melodic death metal bands. For a riff to be melodic does it have to be from a melodic death metal band? Obviously I say no because I have Vital Remains (A brutal death metal band) and Dissection (Typically considered a black metal band). So don't try to insult my intelligence and tell me what is what especially when you spell the band's name wrong.

  • @D4rkallyet Tech and Melo go hand & hand dude.

  • i cant hear anything "best" here ... hmmm ... intro song sound good

  • @RevilHermes What would you suggest then?

  • where the hell is Kalmah :)

  • @deosyx6 i made this before their new album or else the first riff in godeye might be on here

  • good video man...

  • @DFizfiq Thanks!

  • Vital Remains are bruthal death metal :D not melodeath !! :D

  • @KukuRukuVaflaFkusna read the description

  • This list is amazing and i think i just found a few new bands. Cheers!

  • I listen to the song 'self vs. self' by pendulum just because it features In Flames.. such awesome guitar work

  • In Flames are gods

  • @galvinized8

Yeah that sounds fair. I'm not really into the subgenre, except for bands like Amon Amarth, and Children of Bodm.

  • Where's Children of Bodom?:D

  • I heard a Swedish Melodic Death/ Thrash band named Decadence .. I would recommend that at any time!! :D

  • You forgot eucharist

  • u wanna hear something awesome? Try Childer of Bodom's Follow the Reaper, start from 2:00 thats something...

  • You fucking ruined the list with a satanic band. GJ asshole. D:

  • @dukedase7 What is the satanic band?

  • @galvinized8 1:22... they sitting there saying hail lucifer. I only heard 10 seconds of that part before I got off, though. So somewhat of a blind perception. But, just the way it sounded made me think they were satanic.

  • @galvinized8 Oh, idk why I called you an asshole lol, ignore that :P

  • Where is desultory?

  • @insidethefall78 probably off somewhere continuing to not write any good melodic death.

  • @galvinized8 The first two Desultory albums are essential Melodic Death Metal albums, even though Bitterness contained some doomy songs. It wasn't until the third album that all went to shit. They're back supposedly recording a new album

  • @insidethefall78 this is true haha I heard the new song on their myspace and it sounds pretty cool. Nothing ground breaking, but decent.

  • Someone upload blindstare and that edge of sanity song please

  • @potatoebrainedbarito To be honest, I wouldn't feel all that comfortable uploading full songs. Also, it might be hard to find the edge of sanity songs because that album is split up into 40 something tracks with all minute or less songs that kind of flow into each other.

  • Gyroscope is legendary. Great choices!

  • Noumena :)

    All their riffs are rememberable

  • Dissection fucking slay!

  • cool list. my fav is still slaughter of the soul's opening riff tho its not on this :P

  • @Rak411 Yes! That riff is awesome. I think my favorite at the gates riff is blinded by fear though. But hey i can only fit so many, can't please everyone haha.

  • @galvinized8 So, what your saying is that you define melodic death metal like an 8 year old girl as death metal that's melodic? That's like saying death metal is metal that's dead.

  • IN FLAMES!

  • fuck yes, i was waiting to see gyroscope

  • no Children Of Bodom?! and why Vital Remains? -.-

  • @lenwe94 no children of bodom because I dont like any of their riffs enough to put on here. Dont get me wrong i like them, but none of their riffs came to mind when i made this video. I am aware Vital Remains is a death metal band, but the riff i chose is melodic. A melodic riff from a death metal band makes the riff melodic death metal.

  • @galvinized8 okay^^

  • @galvinized8 Not really, you need the influences as well.

  • @mcg413 what are you saying? I'm a little confused haha.

  • @galvinized8 You need other melodic death metal influences to actually know what you're doing, or at least have the New Wave of British Heavy Metal influences. At the Gates, In Flames, and Dark Tranquillity were some of the first, and they got influences from at least Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, and Saxon.

  • @mcg413 Read the title of this video and then look at your comment and if you still don't understand why it is a stupid comment then I will gladly explain it to you.

  • do u think u can post the whole song or ur number 10 Blind Stare? and tabs if any :) million t.y.

  • @rock2metal666 idk to be honest i kind of feel weird posting full songs. I don't have any tabs for it either, sorry i couldn't be of help.

  • I like it, but where is

    KEEP OF KALESSIN???

  • Dethklok - Thunderhorse.

  • I like the 10th favorite riff! And I absolutely second 2nd Gates Of ishtar "Trail Of Tears". It's the only song I enjoyed by them.

And of course I'd like to hear top-best of typical melodic death metal riffs like those mentioned above. Maybe I'll make that vid someday :)

  • wuts the intro song

  • @The3DancingBananas Dragonland-Supernova. It is not a death metal song, it is a power metal song im tell you just as a heads up because this ass hole kid was pissy once because my intro song was power metal and not death metal as if the two genres cannot be associated.

  • Damn funny comments, and damn good music. Good job sir.

  • hey fuck you galvinized8. thanks for getting everyone to shit on my good friend Pagnah. Maybe he is the "master of metal". you dont have to be a huge fuckin dick. eat an asshole. fuck you.

  • @CosmicSea1 LOL
