Tired of the comments on steroids... If you have so much dedication for the sport. Like 2 times training a day and an almost perfect diet, its possible to be that big.. (not for Every one ofcourse :D )
@swaapo being lean and cut is for bodybuilding, not MMA. when fedor was in his prime, he was very chubby and still never ran out of energy. same goes for cain velasquez
nothing wrong in being so lean and muscular, but it doesnt really say much about the fighter or his athletism
@MuayThaiViking Sometimes it's better to have some more body fat. If you can use your body weight right. Being more muscled means you need more oxygen and run out of gas faster. Most boxing heavyweights and heavyweights in particular are chubby. The difference is that they hold much more muscle in their legs and they can use their mass to smother the opponent. Jon Jones probably has a bigger upper body than most HWs but he has chicken legs.
@DestroyerAlexandros i dont think you should aim for a certain bodyfat %. train what you need to train to become a better fighter, and then let the body decide what is the most natural and effective
and yes no doubt being chubby is not a bad thing. i was very cut because of weightlifting when i started doing muay thai, but my muscles were drained of energy after 1 round of sparring. after less weightlifting and more muay thai, i gained some fat but a lot of stamina as well
@MuayThaiViking But Alistair has DREADFUL cardio. I'm big myself, I'm around 6'6 260 lbs and I know I can't run a marathon but I run a lot and do a lot of tennis and can go longer than most 150 lbs guys. They guys that gas make me literally FROWN - Carwin, Leben, Werdum. That's because I know that these are usually guys who don't do any other sport and have bodybuilder diets. MMA fighters and boxers should train a little more like the old guys (Holyfield, Hearns, Ali)
@DestroyerAlexandros well its several years ago ive seen alistair draw big breaths during a fight. it happened a lot while he was at LWH, maybe your memory tricks you. of coure, most of his fights ends in 1st round nowadays. but i havnt seen anything lately that indicates he has ''dreadful cardio''
i didnt understand the last part of your second post so i wont comment on it
but fact is his cardio has increased a lot after going heavyweight, that doesnt indicate steroids
@DestroyerAlexandros id say someone like alistair is a natural heavyweight. after gaining like 20kgs of muscles, his stamina is better than ever. he gassed out a lot as a LWH, now he looks a lot more comfortable
well i stop now, no need for writing an essay :-)
@MuayThaiViking Hey it's true. Cutting weight does sap your energy and make you less able to take punches. That's why a lot of boxers were more successful at bigger weight classes. That's not to say getting fat will make you better (James Toney). Alistair didn't gain 20 kg, he weighed around 225 when he was at lightheavy, now he weighs 255. He's on roids, EVERYBODY in sports is. That's nothing wrong, these guys wanna make more money so everyone roids. 4 them its like coffee 4 us
@DestroyerAlexandros as he has said in a recent interview: he had to cut weight all the time before he was a permanent HW. and he had to watch out for calories instead of doing what felt right. it wasnt good for him
as soon as he focused on gaining weight and delibrately jumped up a weight class, he hasnt gassed out. that does say something about what weightclass that fits him
saying every pro sportman is on roids is extreme. what makes you think thats the case?
@DestroyerAlexandros oh last one: yes there are huge benefits of using roids so that may be an argument for why they ALL use roids
but there are also huge risks with all the testing. one positive test can destroy your career. in a sport like MMA where cardio is not alpha omega (almost like it is in bicycling), you can easily be the champion without taking the big risk of taking steroids or similar banned drugs. so no, i think the majority are naturals in MMA
@MuayThaiViking Cardio is the most important aspect of conditioning for fighting. How many champions are not strong for their size? Ali, Holyfield, Nogueira, Cro Cop, Barnett, Anderson Silva, James Toney. How many champions are not fast for their size? Klitschko, Foreman, De La Hoya, Jon Jones, Tim Sylvia. Now how many champions have bad cardio? Entertainment sports are the ones where people roid most. In a sport like tennis where you play every day and you get tested (continues)
@DestroyerAlexandros ''Now how many champions have bad cardio?'' you dont need drugs to have a good cardio, cmon..
drugs are being more effective now and harder to trace. because there is money in this, so the drugs will also be researched and improved
but the organizations who tries to stop drugs and roids (since it can ruin a sport) has a lot more resources than those interested in aiding individuals. and they are finding comparably more effective ways to trace drug use
@MuayThaiViking randomly, it's very hard to roid but most guys still do it. But in sports where the purpose is solely to entertain (like fighting sports) and you fight like a few times a year at most, it's much more common.
@DestroyerAlexandros fighters are being tested around the year, not just before a fight. the fact that tennis players play a lot more games than fighters fight, doesnt mean anything in that context
the champions through history has almost perfect physiques, but isnt that obvious? they compete with thousands of others, many just as skillful. of course those few skillful who also have a physical advantage will have a better chance.
@MuayThaiViking The fighters themselves testify to using steroids. The pharmacists who supplied Holyfield and Carwin was busted by the police and their names came up in his records. Google "Carwin steroid story Cagewriter". They mention a "world beater heavyweight striker who completely transformed his body and packed 20 lbs in a very short period of time". That's actually a fighter testifying to his partners using roids. Hmmmmm I wonder who that could be.
@DestroyerAlexandros overeem did not transform his body over a short period of time, he became a heavyweight in june 2007, so hes been getting bigger for 4.5 years and honestly gaining 20 lbs of muscle in half a year is possible without roids. hes always had a huge frame as well
@MrTreeds finaly someone who is smart. aint nothin wrong with using the secret sauce. the rest of the world does it so y do they have to make americans believe its bad? bc they want us to be a bunch of fat lazy nobodys and for the most part we are
oh and look at josh barnette, tested for steroids 3 or 4 times i cant remember. did he ever look like he juiced? no but he did. its all about having good genetics when youre that big
Its so amazing to me how much HATERS there are, I don't usually comment on youtube but its so pathetic people think he takes steroids when MMA is very much against it and have caught people using it, Alistair Overeem has past all his tests, ALL OF THEM, therefore you morons he does not take ANY, does that make sense you douche bags?
Avereem looks like and advertisement of steroids. When i see him first what I think its STEROIDS. All others does not matter for me. It is not a good example for young men: "Use steroids and become such succwsfful like Overeem. Yes, I agree he is a good fighter, but without steroids he could become much more better.
@MrTsarik You're a moron. Example for young men? If those "young men" are stupid enough to start using steroids just because they saw Overeem, then they deserve to die. And explain how he would become a better fighter without steroids?
I want to see Overeem fight Bobby Hoffman, Lidell, and Kharitonov again. He will put Hoffman in the hospital, put Lidell to sleep, and decimate Kharitonov.
@timlin0607 That's typically not the reason people hate steroids. It's because everyone who doesn't has to work just a little bit harder than you do. That said, I'll give Alistair the benefit of the doubt.
Damn I hope he doesn't become too inactive next year. I mean, he was very active this year, so that's great. Although there is not much left for him to do -- fight with Fedor, or Werdum, but that doesn't seem likely for quite a while. He needs to get to UFC soon
@timlin0607 that isnt steroids, in ufc you could get banned for that shit
