Perfect context with the point in the movie. But it has the same ring to it. With many moments of uncertainty in life when you miss someone.

War is just one possible context. It follows the path of martyr and hope. To which end you want to see that person safe with you once more. Even if it never happens. I think he or at least whoever told him to sing this way made the best choice for that they understood the song in its meaning.
