For real. The LS9 motor that powers the ZR1 is the same block as the base models LS3. The LS9 just has all forged rotating assembly, rods, etc. And of course the super charger. So yeah you could turn a base model into a beast with some money! That's what i'd like to do for sure.

The gt500 driver is a good driver his shifts were perfect in this run I would guess he's running stock blower with pulley upgrades or a blower upgrade on 91.... probable pulling 600 - 630 at the wheels with 4040 weight with driver.

@thunderup86 Swapping pulleys doesnt have to be a ford thing, any car thats supercharged can do it. it is making the blower produce more PSI by having a smaller pulley and spinning it faster. so yes the power gains are possible by swapping the pulley. Im sure this guy has more done but getting into the 11s with a small pulley and slicks in this car is possible. Im sure that car doesnt hook very well on street tires making that kind of power.

@f7shaun Most definitely not...... In your dreams yes, but trust me, 500 hp is no joke. You might envision that you can handle it, but until you have been behind the wheel of a car pushing that power, hell no. And if you haven't been able to even get to know a less powerful car (ie your first car), then you will certainly crash within at least the first week. My first was my current 08 GT, and that is already a lot of power for a 1st car. Although I got used to it, then supercharged it.

Im not getting upset man just stating some facts. I love car debates they are fun. The 2010 GT500 is more hp too than the 2008. My car has won it's share and lost its share as well my friend. All I was saying is that the power to wght and tq numbers do not add up to the car running 11's bone stock thats all. When the Zr1 is now over 600hp running 11's and is lighter and has more tq it's hard for me to believe that a car thats heavier with less power runs close to the same times thats all man.

I already told you, I found two for under 40k within the past two months on Ebay with a 'Buy it now' of 34k (lots of miles on it) and the other was 38k (about 30k miles on it)
But even at 40k, it's still cheaper than buying a new GT500.
Well seeing that I own both a 2008 GT500 (with a 2.6) pulley and a 2002 Dodge Viper GTS that is has a Cam and some other goodies. Bottom line the Shelby is more setup for a drag car. I have 3.73 in my Shelby, and 3.07 in the Viper. Both are over 500 rwhp. Of the two cars, the Viper is by far more fun to drive. A 12.4 for an SRT is not really that good driver wise. I couldnt tell if the GT500 was running slicks or not, but getting it to hook to run an 11.8 is impressive.
The 3rd gen Viper makes 500hp. The GT500 makes 500hp. Add a pulley, exhaust & some tuning & your right at 600hp. Nice isn't it? I've driven a Viper on 3 occasions & it was horrible. I prefer the stang.

Stock, these cars will run very simalar quarter mile times (mid to low 11 second range or a bit quicker depending on tires and driver). The difference is a viper has a top speed of over 200mph and handles a hell of a lot better. I am not trying to hate on mustangs so please don't take it that way. I love super snakes! I am just stating facts is all.

A 12.42 for a '08 Viper is very weak, a stock Gen II will run 12.20's, and I love Mustangs to death but, take the drag radials off and then see what she'll do, I bet mid 11's won't happen. Even race if the Viper driver didn't do a burnout to start with and the Mustang had street tires like the Viper.

The gt500 driver is a good driver his shifts were perfect in this run I would guess he's running stock blower with pulley upgrades or a blower upgrade on 91.... probable pulling 600 - 630 at the wheels with 4040 weight with driver.

thats funny well that 08 is not stock because the 1/4 time is more then a second off and the zo6 does the quarter stock in 11.7 seconds well I just looked it up. gt500 in 08 does it in 13.3 stock So im guessing we are not looking at stock to stcok

@01rsh I have to ask you a question Im not a ford guy, and i hear a lot about by adding different pulleys makes a lot more power? I mean i know it could add power but people talk like its a 50 60 70hp kind of difference is that really true???I mean even the way your talking I do not disagree, but we are talking about a 2 second 1/4 mile time drop thats a huge difference in the racing world. for this thing to go from 13.3 stock to 11.4 can a good pair of slicks and pulleys really do that????

@thunderup86 Swapping pulleys doesnt have to be a ford thing, any car thats supercharged can do it. it is making the blower produce more PSI by having a smaller pulley and spinning it faster. so yes the power gains are possible by swapping the pulley. Im sure this guy has more done but getting into the 11s with a small pulley and slicks in this car is possible. Im sure that car doesnt hook very well on street tires making that kind of power.

@01rsh Ok i see what your sayin. see I have a underdrive pulley kit from BBK on my 84 firebird 383 but my HP gain from such a thing is only 10-15 HP which it only cost me 149 bucks on jegs worth the money but. I totally see what your saying know about the car being blown that makes a little more sense to me.

@f7shaun Most definitely not...... In your dreams yes, but trust me, 500 hp is no joke. You might envision that you can handle it, but until you have been behind the wheel of a car pushing that power, hell no. And if you haven't been able to even get to know a less powerful car (ie your first car), then you will certainly crash within at least the first week. My first was my current 08 GT, and that is already a lot of power for a 1st car. Although I got used to it, then supercharged it.

To be honest, Viper guy probably could have done a little better then that, its got the same HP as your Stang but weighs almost 600lbs less, technically speaking it should have won, oh well comes down to the driver after all. But the GT500 is a bad bitch... Nice car man and good run.

first off all u guys talking about 1/4 mile runs are nuts these cars are not made for that they are made for road tracks who cares what they can do in 10 sec's and put them through the paces on what they were designed to do !!! when u bring these cars to the strip all u are doing is chancing blowing a very sexy and pricey car apart that said drivers make and brake time slips also when u see 1/4 mile times in books that's a pro in perfect weather Ive never seen a stock come even close. Im not getting upset man just stating some facts. I love car debates they are fun. The 2010 GT500 is more hp too than the 2008. My car has won it's share and lost its share as well my friend. All I was saying is that the power to wght and tq numbers do not add up to the car running 11's bone stock thats all. When the Zr1 is now over 600hp running 11's and is lighter and has more tq it's hard for me to believe that a car thats heavier with less power runs close to the same times thats all man.

That was a 500 hp Viper which ran 12's, also the GT 500 was 500 hp that year and didn't run in the 11's so lets come clean and tell what your mods are.

@MrCpe9775 Ok well the 2006 viper was 505hp and 535 ft lbs of tq on street tires and 3400 something curb wt. The 2008 gt 500 was 500 hp and 480 tq on street tires and was 3920 curb wt. So again we r talking about 2006 vs 2008 not 2010! If the the 2008 was on drag radials vs the 2006 viper it would have been close just looking at wght and tq, not even hp! FORD MOTORS r CRAP with TQ!!! TQ IS IMPORTANT!!!

The viper is capable of mid 11's as well. im just telling you a GT500 does have the potential to beat a viper. With the proper driver this will be a very close race. this one however was not. dont get so bent out of shape sometimes your brand loses. My mustang gets beat all the time. I dont cry about it

Why don't you try looking before you act like an upset little girl? You will see a 'Buy it now' price if the car is being sold for a specific price. Finding a Gen 3 for under 40k is rare, but I have seen them in the range before. The higher the mileage, the cheaper the car.

I already told you, I found two for under 40k within the past two months on Ebay with a 'Buy it now' of 34k (lots of miles on it) and the other was 38k (about 30k miles on it)
But even at 40k, it's still cheaper than buying a new GT500.

Well seeing that I own both a 2008 GT500 (with a 2.6) pulley and a 2002 Dodge Viper GTS that is has a Cam and some other goodies. Bottom line the Shelby is more setup for a drag car. I have 3.73 in my Shelby, and 3.07 in the Viper. Both are over 500 rwhp. Of the two cars, the Viper is by far more fun to drive. A 12.4 for an SRT is not really that good driver wise. I couldnt tell if the GT500 was running slicks or not, but getting it to hook to run an 11.8 is impressive.

The 3rd gen Viper makes 500hp. The GT500 makes 500hp. Add a pulley, exhaust & some tuning & your right at 600hp. Nice isn't it? I've driven a Viper on 3 occasions & it was horrible. I prefer the stang.

@paintballer0816 Yeah I am aware of the horsepower numbers bud. The viper is considerably lighter even though it makes less horsepower. Stock, these cars will run very simalar quarter mile times (mid to low 11 second range or a bit quicker depending on tires and driver). The difference is a viper has a top speed of over 200mph and handles a hell of a lot better. I am not trying to hate on mustangs so please don't take it that way. I love super snakes! I am just stating facts is all.

The ZR1 costs $111,000 the ACR $98,000 so yeah it would appear that the Viper costs way more then the Vette... Viper 1/4 mile 11.00 Vette 11.5 So your claims of the vette is faster doesnt really hold up

I have a Co-op for 7 months in which i'll make about 22K with the CIA, the summer after that i can make about 12K in a 3 month internship. My scholarships mostly pay for my college. My parents pay for my car insurance and gas. And aerospace engineers make an average starting salary of 60k a year.
So I did the math, i could get a comfortable 3 year loan on one.

@deltafool117 plus just so you know you wont really be able to afford a car right after you get out, you still are going to need a credit score and proof of your yearly anual salary that you CAN afford the car+insruance+your house and ect. I own a 2006 GT and my payment is $390 and that was lucky, for this it will be at least $550-700 a month. Trust me $60,000 is not close enough for this car unless you live with your parents or own some random small apartment in the ghetto,

A 12.42 for a '08 Viper is very weak, a stock Gen II will run 12.20's, and I love Mustangs to death but, take the drag radials off and then see what she'll do, I bet mid 11's won't happen. Even race if the Viper driver didn't do a burnout to start with and the Mustang had street tires like the Viper.

Mustangs are low weighted then any other cars on its level. camaro 2011 & charger are the examples. Some cars are just made with so much hp and torque (RWD) that handling them is not for everyone.
