Hi, I was fortunate enough to join the "Matthew" as one of "her" volunteers, following my retirement, I also had the good fortune to sail from Bristol to Salcombe before leaving her there, whilst "she" journeyed on to France for their "Festival of the Sea" back in 2008 (I think it was). We had a brilliant skipper Rob Salvidge and crew. I also sailed on the S.T.A "Malcom Miller, from Swansea to Cobh, back around 1997? Always sea sick, but would still want to go to sea again, crazy or what?
Wonderful to hear Tony's voice once again!! He used to be a member of Stormalong John, a shantycrew from Liverpool and he is still missed by his two greatest fans from Holland. RIP Tony and it was a pleasure knowing you
what a wonderful selection of songs! could someone please tell me where the shanty event was held? i would love to attend one, i live in the midlands, unfortunately no where near the sea :( !!
Special Thanks As well to Stan Ambrose and Forebitter for their tireless organisation, they always seem to make the whole show seem so effortless, must be a nightmare trying to contact some of the artists who appear at the festivals, seeing as they come from far and wide
You're very welcome. Too bad you couldn't attend, it was a very special evening. My first shanty event ever, in fact, and more than enough to cement a lifelong appreciation of the music, ships, and history!
jliv, what beautiful ships. My service was on Naval vessles. The more we advance the less we remember the beauty. I love to see a sleek destroyer plying through the ocean, a carrier pushing through. But, when a tall ship sails by, I stop, and cannot close my mouth. They are such a wonderful sight to behold. They are a true beauty!! This old sailor remembers the past. =Stefan=

Agreed, what a genius and a gentleman! Yes, and it was indeed diverse with groups from Poland, Italy, France, and Liverpool.
