@1019drummer, Obama's had a year and has made little or no progress on any of the issues you mention. I will concede that it will take time to undo the mess of the Bush administration, but I haven't seen any progress at all. If Obama really wanted to, he could have ended the war in Iraq by now. He also could have closed at least 300 of the 700 military bases America has around the world with no effect on world peace. Unfortunately I haven't seen any results on any issue(jobs included).

There's too much emphasis on whether people are liberal or conservative. People aren't that easily defined. The official election results show 96% of blacks voted for Obama. But, blacks do generally vote for a Democrat anyway. Black Americans tend to be less educated, by a large margin. Black Americans, a large percentage, tend to be on some sort of government assistance. Black Americans, specifically the younger generations, tend to be racist. Many people voted against Republicans not because of McCain/Palin but because of Bush.

Most African Americans are registered Democrats. If they had voted for McCain, -then- it would have been a vote over race. It was a vote for the Democrat, a vote for the centrist (rather than the right-wingers).
Blacks were very reluctant, at first, to consider Obama. Blacks were Clinton supporters.
And blacks have been voting for whites for years and years far more than whites have voted for blacks.

Do the majority of American voters really care about the issues, or do they only care about image and style? People in general are comfortable labeled as a brand. Conservative, liberal. I will concede that it will take time to undo the mess of the Bush administration, but I haven't seen any progress at all. If Obama really wanted to, he could have ended the war in Iraq by now. He also could have closed at least 300 of the 700 military bases America has around the world with no effect on world peace. Unfortunately I haven't seen any results on any issue(jobs included).

What's going to happen obviously is that the Senate is going to have to get rid of the filibuster rule. Democracy is 50% plus one. Not 50% plus 10% (even in a crisis!) or you'd never get anything done.
The Republicans have exploited it and broken it.
That change is thirty years in the making. Democrats have filibustered a few times, too, but it is shocking that Republicans would be using it now.
Empowering an embittered Joe Lieberman doesn't benefit anybody.

@ReliableInsider, I'll agree with you on that for sure. There's Ron Paul conservatism, and then there's the scary kind of conservatism(neo-cons, Cheney, etc.). There's too much emphasis on whether people are liberal or conservative. People aren't that easily defined. For example, there's many people(myself included) that are for small government, fiscal conservatism/responsibility, want violent crime punished, yet also support liberal social policies(gay marriage, marijuana legalization, etc).
