I like the M416 because in your head you know that you're using a gun that you assume is "good" and so you have a confidence boost while using it. With the M4A1 you think it's just another kinda like beginner gun so you don't think you can accomplish as much. It's always how you think you play, if you think you're not that good well then you wouldn't kill much because you're doubting yourself. It's completely reversed if you have a positive attitude.
