There has been talk about a "transit replacement service" with rails along the Washington Street Corridor since the late 1970's. It would certainly provide a faster trip downtown from Roxbury, with easier connections to other lines, but there might also be some drawbacks to this--depending on where you board. Last I heard, a comeback for rail seems unlikely.
Most of the old photos are from the mural project mentioned in the description. There are other images taken from around the square. My own shots were from 2007 (video and still) and shots of the square and the old Orange Line as far back as 1987.
Is it true their bringing trains back to Dudley?
