Lovely sensitive performance with a good variety of tone, but I still prefer simple piano accompaniment to full orchestra! Of course it is very nice at times, particularly the "The fine song for singing" part, but overall I find it trivialises Vaughn Williams' heartfelt emotion somewhat.
I understand what you mean. Allen actually recorded the same song in a recital a couple of years ago with the original piano accompaniment along with 'Let Beauty Awake'. Both versions are quite lovely.
@Krolblach I agree about Sir Thomas' lovely performance AND the accompaniment. The "Songs of Travel" are among my favorites, and they sound so much better with just a singer and piano.
So fantastic... Doing this one for Texas State Solo and Ensemble :) fantastic song, sung exquisitely... bravo :)

@ComradeDeath I know, I've been singing to it most of my life lol. 'Simple' was just a turn of phrase :P

@Krolblach Funny how you say it "trivialises Vaughan Williams' heartfelt emotion" because he arranged the song for orchestra himself.
