  • If you notice, the narrator's lips are way out of synch with his words as well. This would give a viewer of this clip the FALSE impression that Lawrence Welk's musicians fingers were not matching the music and therefore "fake playing." I don't believe they are. His musicians were too good to need to fake anything. They are really playing - it is the film that is out of synch. Why are other musicians so critical and envious of their fellows?

  • Bourbonjazz is right! As a bandleader myself, and familar with Welk's output I was surprised to see this done on the show. Incidentally, there was NO stereo version of CRL-57146, the issue on the Ranwood label is mono, slightly enhanced to give a "spread" in the sound on modern equipment . I'd hoped for stereo on the re-issue but "tain't so. I suspect that use of it on the show perhaps stemmed from Lawrence either buying or leasing the master for the Ranwood label.
  • pretty bad fake job!!!

  • This is shocking. This recording was done by Pete Fountain years on an album titled and released 1958 on Coral Records CRL 57146 Mono / CRL 757146 Stereo, currently available on CD Dixieland Lawrence Welk and Pete Fountain - Ranwood Recods. This band is faking/playing along with this recording. Look closely and you'll see that none of the fingerings match the music played. Sorry to all Welk fans, as I have played with Pete Fountain and know his style extremely well.
