cinemapublico had the version with the Robert Israel score, but some joker decided to flag it for copyright, and YT terminated the channel despite the fact that the film's in the public domain.
NOTICE THE SOUND TRACK IS LATE to the picture? When Keaton's gun goes off, the sound is late by a full second. This is why you do NOT want to buy this version: as good as the sound track is, it's not fit to the picture. This is the Kino release with (great) music by Robert Israel. You should all write to Kino and ask that they re-release it with the soundtrack in sync with the picture.
I have just posted 2 clips from the"1995 version". I copyrighted the Joplin score in Aug. 1994 and it was released on VHS in 1995. A Presentation with a live piano performance is in the planning stages.
I've got three versions of the General, and I still prefer the video over the DVDs!! That's got civil-war-time music, and is sepia-tinted - it felt odd to watch it in proerper black and white! the first DVD had Scott Joplin music - just the thing for a Civil War film! and the second DVD has kinda jazzy score. At least I learned that the score I prefer is the "1995 version" - or a date similar to that!
Yes, this is the best copy (unless you've got a region 2 DVD player and can find the MK2 edition). David Shepard has produced two copies of The General to DVD, and although the one with the Alloy Orchestra's synth score has better image quality, the music for this one captures the mood better, I think. At the same time, Alloy's score for Eisentstein's Strike and Vertov's Man With A Movie Camera were excellent and totally fit the films.
I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my clip of silent movie star tobacco cards. They include: Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino, Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, Tom Mix, Jackie Coogan, Harold Lloyd and many more.

Wow, we have the movie. Chaplin and Keaton are both geniuses. No matter what...

Wow, a section from a Buster Keaton film where he doesn't fall down for over four minutes.
I kid, this is genius.
