  • Alan's closing arguments were always my favourite thing about Boston Legal, just superbly written and acted.

  • I need to get a hold of this entire season!

  • This show was really special. Love it.

  • I detest the way they threw The Practice under a bus to promote Boston Legal. To let Alan Shore win the trial was a huge joke.

He lies and cheats, he is warned repeatedly, he insults the partners, he abuses his friendship with Eleanor, he is saved by Eugene from disbarment, he hacks/breaks into their computers & offices, and somehow he is due a huge cut of the money from clients he voluntarily brought into the firm. The firm that hired him as a favour after being fired for embezzling money btw

  • @alin1975 So? They fired him after he basically saved the firm single handedly he just wanted a fair slice of the money he brought in as compensation and he was denied that for no other reason then Eugene not liking him. If Eugene had never gotten all self righteous over his hatred of Alan and given hima fair amount he firm could have survived and Alan could have gotten a new job. Blame the others at the firm for not stopping Eugenes hatred of Alan, not Alan for wanting what is rightfully his.

  • @Erech01 Also Boston Legal was far better than the Practice. Denny Crane.

  • @Erech01

When you work for a company you get a salary and whatever bonus is in your contract. If you invent something for Sony you are not entitled to a bigger cut. He got what was rightfully his. Despite this, they still offered him a partner level bonus.

And none of this would have even been possible had Eugene not single handedly saved Alan from disbarment.

The producers are at fault; they needed to promote B.L. Otherwise Alan would have been fired right away, and rightfully so.

  • @alin1975 Maybe not if you invent something. But if you save Sony from bankruptcy with an idea, then you should own part of that company. 50% of a watermelon is always better than 100% of a grape. And legally, with all of the money he brought in, he owned at least half the firm. Besides, the firm should have sent him all of the client information for people he brought in. Not doing so, is simply unfair.

  • @JesusLovesYuGiOh By the way, Alan Shore didn't have a contract, He was an at-will employee. That was one of the main bits of evidence of Alan's case.

  • @JesusLovesYuGiOh

You know, the only reason we are even having this discussion is because they wanted to promote their new show and they did so at the expense of the show that was dying anyway.

Boston Legal was always very far from reality (relatively speaking), and thats fine, but it was ridiculous to even mix those two.

I can sit here and point to all the shit that should have got him disbarred or arrested, but its pointless - they needed to make that show work.

  • @JesusLovesYuGiOh

So wait, if you work as an inventor for Sony, you think that you would end up owning half the firm if your product made it big? This is never, ever the way things work, period.

Second, the company had been in far worse positions before. In the past Lindsay brought in the big bucks - she made them successful- and that eventually got her partnership.

The only reason that guy was tolerated was because of his friendship with Eleanor.

  • @alin1975 With equity law, it can be. It's not merely that he made a lot of money, it's that he drew in a considerable majority of the earnings. He was directly responsible for much of the income, and lawyer's earnings are different to that an inventor. A judge COULD find that he had an equitable interest in the firm and such, is entitled to a share of it's profits. Though in reality you'd have such a slim chance you'd need a very sympathetic judge and jury

  • @Papped1710 I agree on the reality bit though. Most of the time in BL that's how they went. Cases that they would in reality require jury nullification or a judge taking a very liberal stance on the law, though still, technically, possible.

  • @Papped1710

Fair enough, thanks for the clarification :)

  • Denny Crane!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the thing was that Allan told the truth, he didn't try and cover up what he did or was, he said I'm a sleazebag lawyer and that's what i am. Eugene made the lawyers position to be something god like, like they had an unique sense of honor and so forth. the problem is that maybe other lawyers are like that but not criminal attorneys. they are just as Allan said there only purpose is too get rapists, murderers, drug dealers and other scum back on the streets, then he tries to act mighty

  • @MAnnaconduit1

Not to mention that Eugene did despicable things himself as a lawyer. "Plan B" was his one of his favorite techniques - slandering an innocent person.

  • @Reazzurro90 well 1 Eleanore warned him about going against Alan, 2 he should never have thought that he could deny Alan the money he did actually rake in. this whole venture was so Eugene could beat Alan, becasue he thought he was a better attorney and to show Alan his place. but his speech of a criminal lawyer is hypocritical/arrogant, and Unfortunately it had dire consequences, his vendetta almost bankrupted his firm, if they had paid Alan then he wouldn't have taken so much,

  • @MAnnaconduit1

Indeed Alan refused all the money once he won.

  • God I miss this show!!! They need to release the whole series on dvd like they did Ally McBeal.

  • @Crimson28 i completely agree
