@XxDahamonnahxX I bought it as an estate pipe on Ebay several years ago and at that time I paid $122 for it. (though I believe it would go higher today as pipe prices have increased since then) I would guess that new today it might go for $350?? (but I don't know if they still make that exact same stem these days)
I actually like pipes better for the most part. It's far less expensive(for the tobacco at least ;) and the variety can't be beat. Also pipe smoke is generally less offensive to those around you if they aren't smokers and the after aroma that hangs on your clothes isn't quite as apparent. Still, sometimes I do love cigars, I tend to go with the fullest body-cigar I can find as the milds just seem bland unless I have some kind of food and drink to go with it that compliments the "darker" flavors
I'm a new pipe smoker, I just got my first pipe, and it's a corncob. I don't have any clue as to what kind of tobacco to buy though. I want an english tobacco, no bite, a nice sweet flavor, maybe caramel. I just have no clue what to get...can someone please recommend something to me? Thanks.
@itsjohn100 I'd recommend some of Milan Tobacconists blends, the 401 burley is a great simple flavor and is one of the ones I started with and really liked. Evening stroll is an -amazing- aromatic and has become one of my favorites lately, Honey Smoke is also a super mild and sweet flavor. Their King's Ransom is a really mild and sweet English blend to try as well. If you end up ordering from them let me know what you think :).
I used to smoke cigarettes for many years and even cigars. Being the cigarette smoker I (of course) inhaled and when I would smoke a cigar I would end up inhaling. I guess more instinctively. So now I prefer the pipe because I have quit cigarettes and the pipe is the 1st thing i've smoked and not instinctively inhaled. So I prefer the pipe. :-)
Haha! Its always hard to talk about pipes and cigars without it sounding wrong. In a freudian kind of way. I guess for me a pipe is like a friend thats going to be around for a while. Cigars tend to kick my ass about the last quarter any way. Still like them occasionally though. Great vid Kel.
For me, smoking my pipe is a sit back and relax, enjoy the scenery sort of bit, whereas a cigar is more of a conversational/celebratory party sort of thing. So for me, it's more of a situational deal.
Where cigars are concerned, I really love Padron's, where I lean more towards English tobacco when it comes to pipes.
There's a local place here that you can have your own personal liquor cabinet and come in wearing dress attire, and smoke a cigar or pipe, and relax with other such gentlemen.
I disagree, the average cigar last for 45 min to an hour, a big one may last 1 hour 15 min - 1 hour 45 min, then of course there are the rare 2+ hour smoke
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams lol an average cigar will last me about 50 min usually, a big one (like an ashton aged maduro #60) might last me 2 hours but of course I smoked down to the very nub
I've had a smoke from a cigar for over three days by simply cutting the burning bit off with my cigar cutter when I feel like stopping. Next day just relight it and off you go. I can't say I've noticed much difference in flavour over the days of relighting/trimming either :-)
Strangely enough, I enjoy cigars much more on a bitter cold day than a pipe. Most people I've watched or talked to say the opposite. But i sort of compare a cigar like eating a bowl of stew compared to a milder pipe. It's real heavy and peppery and I like that on a cold day.
I love & enjoy both but if forced to choose one it would probably be cigars! Love my Cubans & I havent been into pipes as long as I have been into cigars.
As far as your point on not wanting to sit down for 2 hours & smoke a cigar, I have a wide range of cigars in my humidor that range from a 30min smokes to 2 hour smokes so I take that into account when choosing.
Kel, you have a dirty mind, just like I do... I hate throwing away expensive cigars half smoked too. So, I buy bigger cigars and I cut them neatly in half, and I smoke them on different occasions. ; )
Perfect timing, Kel. I'm primarily a cigar smoker but have had an itch lately to get into pipes. It seems a bit cheaper than cigar smoking, and also like you said, it's a bit of a smoother smoke...which I look for in a cigar. I'll ask now, and look for a
video later, but do you have a compilation of different pipe tobacco that you recommend?
how many times have you been told you look like Kevin James? it's not an insult, i just see a crazy resemblance.

can i take a tight cigar and just take it apart and cut the tobacco leaves into the shape of pipe tobacco and smoke it in a pipe?

I'd be very wary of any friend who wanted to "suck on my pipe" or, for that matter, wanted me to suck on his pipe!
I do enjoy sucking on my own pipe though.
