As for being too fast, you can't play it faster than you can play it, but you have to compromise between hitting all the notes and not sounding lethargic. I think Ms. Huanci did an admirable job, but probably could have slowed down slightly and gotten a little more precision, without any loss of that "wow" factor.
Really anyone who plays this piece this well has accomplished something amazing.
Seems to me I remember the hall and performer. Yes - it's coming back to me.
Claire could dash off these works with more style and panache than virtually anyone else on the stage today (with few exceptions). What I always appreciated was her ability to keep it musical!
@takeharu It's faster than most other performances of this arrangement that I've heard (probably faster than the arrangement calls for). However, it's closer to the tempo most orchestras use, so I wouldn't hold it against her. Frankly, I'm flabbergasted that she actually can play it that fast.
@Rhojin83 and Horowitz himself was annoyed by that (the speed of the orchestras), cause is is a march! Although I think it's possible for armies to march in this tempo!
@scarro I don't think you'd have any trouble marching to the faster tempos. I was in a marching band in college (University of Maine) and we played at tempos in that range all the time.
I see it, but I don't believe it. Beautiful.

She really nailed the dynamics. It's too bad she skipped the repeats of the first two parts, though. It was still excellent, though.
