What should be condemned is not the sexual orientation of a soldier, but the reaction of other soldiers in regards to his/her sexual orientation. What if we said, let's not put African-Americans in a group of white people, because they might have racist feelings and it might create tension in the group? Then people would protest: it's not the skin colour that should be addressed, it's racism.

The soldier was wrong and misleading when he said that soldiers are discharged for being gay. Its not against policy to be gay but to ask and tell people that you are gay. Just like its not against the law for a man to wanna have sex with a female coworker, but it is a different story if you tell the female coworker in detail that you wanna have sex with her. Gay people have a genetic disorder/birth defect, it is unfortunate, but their feelings are not the only ones that matter.

Persecution is the infliction of suffering or harm upon those who differ (in race, religion or political opinion) in a way regarded as offensive.

A government, with established policies, laws, and principles exsists, not persecution. Just because our army and government doesn't cater to the needs of the ignorrant, (who, if they had their way, would be the downfall of our country with their political correctness) does not make it unjust.

Seperation of church and state was not established with the intention of protecting our government from religion, but to protect our religion from government. Therefore, we are not going to let politics comprimise what the foundations and principles that are nation was founded upon. Its good that he says it depends on "what the ppl/military want", but if he changed his statement from "hopes that one day gays and lesbians can serve in the military" to "Now's not the time to discuss"(both paraphrased), obviously he's just TRYING to get the people's vote. Mike Huckabee is a strong upstanding Christian Conservative. He is careful in his answers. Although I will agree with some who say he doesn't have the looks of a president, He does have the decission-making ability of a President. I believe that is more important.

I do not feel that being a homosexual should be an issue if that person wants to serve in the military. The UCMJ which provides the code of conduct of troops and should not be changed. The UCMJ also states that adultery is destructive to unit cohesion as is sexual harrassment. I would not want to be forced to live with a member of the opposite sex in a close quarter situation, either.
