Is that purposefully trying to use subliminal messaging, or just a joke?
Anyway, religion in science class in a fucking oxymoron. Of course there are ignorant morons who claim that creationism is scientific, but that's why they're ignorant.
If you draw up a high school curriculum which EVERYONE must take, there would not be room for a proper teaching of evolution. Would a student taking a vocational / shop curriculum have room for it ? I see the benefit for every student for learning about the human body, and there is an awful lot of accessible material in the Merck manual to fill a full year course on that, which does NOT introduce evolution.
@mooninquirer hold the vocational curriculum to post graduation, everybody with an able mind should have the same basic education in science, phyics, chem, bio. I'm still annoyed that I didn't get a physics class until college.
@kotoroshinoto Well, there are vocational tracks for high school, in which juniors and seniors learn automotive maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, etc. These people will have to take physics, obviously. Not everyone is going to become a biologist or medical researcher.
@mooninquirer what would constitute a weakness in the theory would be if you found evidence of phenomena that completely broke the rules or completely violates predictions under the theory. If this can be reproducibly discovered the theory must be modified or thrown away in favor of a better explanation.
@kotoroshinoto Well, in the court case involving the Dover school district, it was determined that it was illegal to read a short paragraph at the end of the course saying basically " we do not have all the answers." There should be nothing wrong with that. But the people responsible for the push to do that DID have a religious agenda, and THAT was why the judge ruled against it.
@mooninquirer it was deliberately worded to make it sound like scientists didn't have half a brain when it came to understanding religion. Scientists have no doubt that evolution occurred, so the statement was deliberately misleading, and smacked of religious intent regardless of what it actually stated. Even kids aren't that stupid.
@kotoroshinoto Insofar as biology is a MANDATORY course, human anatomy and pathology should be the PRIMARY focus, and not zoology and taxonomy. Maybe for a RURAL area, where people would have a interest in animal husbandry, but not for inner city kids. ( lP ) The college biology text by Purves just stated that for women menopause starts at 50. The Merck manual states that as well, but gives the PROPER warning about pregnancies before 15 and after 35. The Purves text has a zoological focus
@mooninquirer The purpose of the educational system is to produce educated citizens, not SOLELY to produce trained workers. To be a useful citizen in a republic you have to be capable of understanding the issues, not just voting the way your preacher or social group dictates. If early government thought that schools were there for job training, they NEVER would have made public schools (relatively) free. Vocational training should be taken after high school in place of college.
How fucked is america? Totally, like if they push creationism there whole population is/becomes more delusional then they currently are. Like do any of you yanks know anything about REALITY?
Someone should send this video to Ben Steins and get him on the bias that's happening in Texas. He feels Creationists are the victim, but in Texas that is not the case.
The South should just become its own separate country already, so they can go do whatever they want and stop preventing the rest of the US from further advancing towards the future.
Sometimes I just feel as though we should just give in to these people. Then when they need new antibiotics or new poisons to kill the latest plague of drug resistant rats and mosquitoes, they'll realise how wrong they were to undermine the theory of evolution.
according to Christains it dosn't matter what you do in your life just as long as you accept god as your savior
if that is correct you can go rape and kill 250 poeple (men and women) and still go to heaven if you accept god
but you can spend your entire life treating the sick, feeding the poor, and even devote your life to AIDs research but you'll go to hell cause you didn't accept god
@490er I think you kind of know how it works. God's mercy is endless, but if i just say with my mouth that I'm sorry, that doesn't mean I'm forgiven. If you do kill and rape 250 people are truly sorry in your inter most being, God will forgive you. And if you do good deeds but don't believe in God, that doesn't mean you'll go to hell, the Church doesn't say that any one is in hell. Who is to say that God wont show his mercy on those who do what he asks them to do, but don't believe him him.
@490er Well, according to Christian theology (which I don't actually believe in) everyone is a sinner, and everyone deserves to go to Hell. No matter how much good or bad you do in your life, everyone sins and "falls short of the glory of God." Even a normally good person occasionally lies, or swears, or whatever. For someone to go to heaven they must be forgiven of this by Jesus. This might seem like sound doctrine, but there are numerous problems with it which is of course why I don't believe
@490er Ummmm, you can't just go around killing and raping, and then accept god and go to heaven. You have to SINCERELY accept god. You atheists are always trying to distort things. Poe and out.
@490er A problem is that there is a lot of fraud in science, because scientists are dependent upon funding, and dissenting theories do not get published. Examples are the man made global warming hoax ---- google or youtube : (1) THE GREAT GLOBAL WARMING SWINDLE (2) JOHN STOSSEL GLOBAL WARMING
And the HIV = AIDS hoax ---- google : (1) HIV = AIDS FACT OR FRAUD (2) DECONSTRUCTING THE MYTH OF AIDS (3) THE OTHER SIDE OF AIDS (4) A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER
i didn't mean it's the best thing you could do but it was more of an idea that you could do good things your entire life and get sent to hell for not believing in "god"
@490er The point of Christianity is this : if you give up your ethnic / racial / tribal loyalty, you can join a new brotherhood. And your missing the point of WHY evolution is being taught in public schools ---- they WANT to promote racism and hatred. Evolution does not explain everything, such as the existence of one's consciousness, but those who push it, IMPLY that. The vested interest in pushing evolution is too great for me not to question its validity.
@mooninquirer A great advantage of religions such as Christianity and Islam ( but not religions based on race ) is that they promote a sense of brotherhood. The original title ( before it was shortened ) of Darwin's book, "Origin of the Species," included the phrase "favored races." And White supremacists base their belief entirely upon evolution, saying Blacks ( they call them "Negroes" with great disdain ) are in between a gorilla and a human ---- they are lower on the evolutionary scale.
@mooninquirer But if you believe that all of mankind are God's children, which is what Jesus taught ( for example, in the Lord's Prayer, and in the parable of the Good Samaritan, about who is one's neighbor ), that is the complete opposite of racism. Evolution promotes favoritism toward one's own race, because they share one's genes, and the point of evolution is to pass one's genes onto the future. Cutting out God, the only morality left is that of evolution ---- survival of one's genes.
I am not saying that CREATIONISM should be taught, but there shouldn't be such a push to teach evolution. It should be assigned as OPTIONAL reading or optional extra credit, to students who want to study it. Biology CAN be taught without evolution ---- it is not as essential to biology as the periodic table is to chemistry, or thermodynamics is to physics. In fact, a more useful biology course would spend more time on human anatomy and pathology, once evolution is left out.
@mooninquirer Facts should be taught. Period. If someone goes through school without accepting that evolution is true they have had a great injustice done to them. Have you watched the documentary "The Secret Life of Chaos"? It's on vimeo.
@pkeod No, I haven't. Thanks. I am interested in the subject of Chaos Theory. Really, topics like THAT should be taught AHEAD of evolution, along with many other things. It is a GREATER injustice to send boys to an all boys school, than to not teach evolution, because they really need dating experience in their teen age years. ( lP ) Because the public schools are so mono-maniacally opposed to ANY reference to God or religion, teaching of evolution is all the more harmful.
« topics like THAT should be taught AHEAD of evolution »
What, you want to tell the kids that the world is basically an indeterminable mess first, and *then* teach them deterministic models? You'll never get them to learn anything that way. You'll scare them right out of their wits before you even get around to the subject of genetics.
@mooninquirer evolution is the best explanation for a large set of observed scientific phenomena and paleontological evidence. It is the CURRENT UP TO DATE SCIENTIFIC THEORY, and is fairly central to understanding biology as it is currently understood, and thus it makes absolute sense that it should be taught. There shouldn't need to be a push, it should be taught, period.
@kotoroshinoto The entire agenda of the teaching of evolution is the abolition of belief in God. THAT is my problem with it. They don't WANT to get to the GOOD STUFF about evolution, like "The Evolution of Cooperation" ( very highly recommended by Richard Dawkins ! ) or "The Moral Animal," and "The Logic of Human Destiny" by Robert Wright, an evolutionists who is making an argument for the existence of God on some level. Dawkins NEVER refers to Robert Wright because of this.
@kotoroshinoto Teaching evolution to students is like teaching sex ed with Nina Hartley," A Guide to Better Cunnilingus" ( I believe that is what it is called ). It is true and useful, but the students do not have the emotional maturity. Further, I don't see any desire to explain the mere FACT that a human female cannot reproduce after the age of 35, let alone why that is the case. Evolution does provide an explanation, but this is never stated.
@mooninquirer So if they are not going to explain this important thing, all the students are left with is the morality of the jungle. The fact is, they do not CARE about the students learning science ----- the purpose of teaching evolution is the destruction of belief in God, it is that simple. Had I believed there was sincerity in teaching science, I would have no objection. Evolution has NO explanation for the CONSCIOUSNESS ---- even Dawkins admits that.
@mooninquirer "does not have" and "will never have" are not the same thing, and to treat them as if they were is dishonest. I don't know about the schools near you, but the possible evolutionary explanation for why human females don't retain the ability to reproduce for their whole life WAS discussed in my classes. The teaching of science should NOT touch on whether god exists, when doing good science, a person is obligated to intepret evidence as if there was only the physical universe
@kotoroshinoto Did they teach WHY human females lose the ability to reproduce at 35 ( in the practical, medically advised sense, and MOST at 39 ), yet still have a life span of 85 ? In the great college level text by Purves et al, "Life: The Science of Biology --- 5th ed " it does not even say this ---- but that menopause is at 50 on average. This is VERY misleading. Most women will go through a 10 year period in which they cannot have children, but still have periods.
@mooninquirer Really, there should be TWO biology classes ---- one in which evolution is either omitted, or downplayed ( for BOYS ), and one in which evolution is taught ( for GIRLS, and smaller numbers of boys who have shown the emotionally maturity to handle it.) Because evolution puts REPRODUCTION front and center ( "God's Utility Function" as Dawkins' titles the key chapter of "River Out of Eden" ), female MAMMALS are the superstars of the show, and males are nearly worthless.
@kotoroshinoto OK --- I would be very curious as to that explanation for why human females not only do not reproduce their whole lives, but that it is extremely short. The reproductive life for a female chimp is 90 % of the adult life. This is very esoteric, and not even discussed in adult literature, because it is basically saying that women over 40 are WORTHLESS. By the way, that is an objection I have to teaching evolution to young males --- it is saying they are basically worthless.
@mooninquirer If the first conclusion your mind comes to upon learning evolution is that women are worthless, then there's NO amount of emotional and intellectual maturity that will help you. That type of mind is already diseased in some other way. It is not entirely understood why, but as age goes up, women's eggs tend to have a higher chance of fucking up during meiosis II. This is probably related to the cells remaining in the middle of meiosis for decades,
@mooninquirer (the process begins during fetal development and halts, then each egg completes it once a month during menstruation once menarche has taken place until menopause occurs.) These cells appear to lose integrity the longer they sit in stasis at this stage of the meiosis and at some point in our evolutionary past we started producing all of our eggs at once during fetal development instead of producing them as they were needed during adult life. (This may protect eggs from mutations.)
@mooninquirer But the evolutionary advances that lead to this did not anticipate the effects of large brains and culture that lead to greatly increased lifespan, because these processes are not themselves intelligent and do not plan ahead. For a long time is was rare for many people to live beyond menopause, and those that did, still served important roles in society in regard to helping the younger generations survive. This hardly makes them worthless, and on a population level still matters
@mooninquirer It is likely, that if our lifespan continues to increase and remains so for a very long time, that you will begin to see an increase in the span between menarche and menopause, and we may even have an improvement to egg cell integrity over long periods. Unfortunately these types of shifts take a very long time to have a measurable effect and we'll likely be long dead before the change occurs enough to be provably different.
@mooninquirer Also contingent on that shift occurring quickly would be mates waiting longer and longer to have children. If humans continue to have children at around 18-30, then the need to evolve more stability in eggs and longer menarche-menopause span will not be nearly as strong.
@mooninquirer another intriguing thing about women, despite most males being able to reproduce until the day they die, women LIVE LONGER. There is probably a reason for this, having more older women around probably increases the fitness of the population.
@mooninquirer and frankly, outside of science class, I would be glad to see religion erased from the collective human psyche, so I really don't empathize with your paranoia at all.
@kotoroshinoto There you go ---- you are living proof of what I am saying. The people who are MOST emphatic about the teaching of evolution, and also very much against religion, and they are pushing an agenda of Atheism. That is a violation of separation between church and state. IF you are going to teach evolution, then at least say the many areas RECENTLY ( last 40 years ) where there has been a substantial revisionism ---- but they do not want to do that.
@mooninquirer I push the agenda of athesim OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM, you paranoid types fail to understand that we can avoid the subject during class unless the students stupidly ask about god in a science class.
@mooninquirer revisionism? you do realize thats how science WORKS. They DO tell you that it has been modified, because modifying a theory in the face of evidence is honest science. Changing a theory in response to observation is not an indication of weakness in the overall idea behind the theory, especially when the bit that is changed is in regard to mathematical models and not the fundamental ideas..
@mooninquirer also its NOT a violation of church and state. Teaching science is not teaching religion. and for that matter atheism IS NOT A RELIGION, and even if it was, or you argue that even touching on the subject is providing religious type instruction (which I don't have a problem agreeing with), then fine, it shouldn't be taught. If evolution happens to contradict your religion's particular genesis myth, that's not our problem, its yours.
@mooninquirer "the purpose of teaching evolution is the destruction of belief in God, it is that simple" --- you have got to be among the most paranoid bastards I have ever met. I didn't need to be taught evolution to think belief in god was for ninnyhammers, I already thought so before I ever attended a science class.
@mooninquirer If sex ed was a class on how to have better sex, then that book would be entirely appropriate. CLEARLY that is not the case, so this is not an apt analogy
@sexyboiswag I'd like to ask the same thing as my Swedish friend here, don't you guys have lessons in religion? I have an A in religion and I HATE religion. Sweden as a whole is 85% atheistic, so, don't you guys learn about religion in school?
this is just surreal. yes, my government just dropped out of atomic energy for no reason whatsoever, the last proof i needed to get out of here asap, but the more i learn about the states, the more embarassing it gets. i`ll settle down in canada.
Im glad and proud to live in the strong conservative states, although in North Carolina I had to take biology and physics so I mean they arent getting rid of it everywhere, I dont think they should dispose of it, they should add a religion class to school systems all across america so teens have equal chance to learn both subjects...that is unless you are some crazy screaming liberal color lover...
@EKmion You sounded somewhat calm, and I will respect other political parties, but when you start insulting people for no reason, that's why people don't take you seriously. Don't bash what you don't understand. I don't bash the Muslim religion, because I haven't read the Koran.
@EKmion would that be an intercultural class for critical and balanced information about hte core beliefs of the religions in the world, or a biased glorification of christianity?

@Blarghonius Wow. So much anger. Meanwhile, I can tell you're kind of a humorless bastard from what you've said. That's sad. Maybe you really are from Texas....lol.
i don't want no whipper snappers smarter that i is. If the youth get confused and all uppity with these new flanged ideas how can i continue to guide them with me old time style of leadership? To keep things as they are, to be a conservative you must rail against any change. That is what conservatism is about, preventing change. I like things they way they are and so do all my friends that is why we fear change. That is why we fear instruments of change like science.
@OldCarsAreBest Unfortunately, it's not just the "inbred cousin fucking fundie moron"s that believe this shit. There are a few, very few, actual scientists, none are biologists but rather archaeologists, that believe this shit. Mind, they are also funded by the church to do their excavations.
What happens when you die? Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus's death for your sins, His burial & resurrection)you'll not perish & have eternal life
@gramosjr7 The Ten Commandments do not forbid lying in general rather it says "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour". There are cases when the cases the Bible condones lying. For example in Exodus Chap 1, Pharaoh asked to kill the baby Hebrew boys but to keep the baby girls alive. They refused to obey, instead they kept the boys alive. On questioned about they said that the Hebrew women were lively and bore children their help. This was a lie but was not condemned.
remaining neutral between science and pseudoscience encourages children to believe that creation myth in genesis is as plausible as the mountain of evidence showing that man and ape both took divergent evolutionary paths from a common ancestor. I hope this lady sued the shit out of the school board. It is the only thing they'll respond to.
@yakult244 Where did you get that comparision from!? Is it because its hot as fuck here or because of the nuts who live in the Northern half of the state?
Those people in Texas who push biblical stories as science are blue-eyed Arabs who are as fundamental and crazy with their so-called religion as the fundamentalist moslems are with theirs. Both are sick.
@friedie1jeff I wouldn't go as far as saying they are "blue eyed Arabs," but I will agree that you get fundamentalists who are just as radical as fundamentalist Muslims in Christianity. They are crazy as hell, but are also just as different.
First there was science, then history... it's disgusting what the religious right want to do to Texas. They want to rewrite history, talking more about the religious right icon John Calvin, rather than the non-Christian Founding Fathers who totally didn't matter (you know, like Thomas Jefferson). In addition, there was no slave trade; it was called the Atlantic Triangular Trade. THE SOUTH DID NOTHING WRONG OMG.
There is definitely no religious or political bias in their textbooks now.
When i want to learn about science, i dont go to church. So why the hell should students learn theology from science teachers? My country is downright embarrassing sometimes. Europe and the rest of the mature world laughs at us and thinks we are retarded, and we sit around and wonder why. Its a nation full of people who telepathically try to communicate with a invisible Jewish sky daddy. They have every right to Laugh at us.
This lady is great. And the youth of the US needs teachers like her.
@JabberCT " So why the hell should students learn theology from science teachers?" It's not only that they will teach them junk, but because there are only so many in-class hours, they WON'T be disseminating facts and valid information. 1/2 of the time is spent on jesus. This means that to cover the science material teachers will have way less time to answer questions about science.... and questions are the primary enemy of religion.
@JabberCT So why aren't people laughing at Iran or the other "Muslim" run countries? Could it be that Muslims have infiltrated the governments of those pompous ass Europeans?
There is no such thing as a benevolent god based religion; all religions are dangerous sub-governments within the countries that they practice their BS in!
@MsWanderer1 Muslims are simply beyond the laughing stage. Christianity in the US may be something for the rest of the world to harmlessly giggle at, but to laugh at Islam means a death sentence because their immaturity cannot be matched. They are the most childish of the entire human race. They bring absolutely nothing to humanity. No discoveries, inventions, entertainers, not a single thing. Yet they feel the world needs to bow down to their barbaric rules. They have Infantile delusions.
Kind of ironic that you call people stupid by using an appeal to emotion to dismiss their position don't you think? Pretty easily recognized logical fallacy.
@sk8teh14 I dismiss their position because their position is based on fantasy. They believe if they get on their knees and put their hands together, that it opens a magical portal to telepathically communicate with supernatural creatures in the clouds. I simply do not see how any mature, grown adult can possibly believe this to be true. Thats borderline insanity.
No offense, but if I were you I would look up "appeal to ridicule" before continuing. It's really annoying to say, "Your argument is an appeal to emotion" and then receive a response that is further appeals to emotion as if I didn't even bring up the point.
@sk8teh14 Before you continue, you should look up the word facts. Because that is what my comments are. I dont need to learn any psychological emotional nonsense like you are saying. Its just your way of avoiding the truth. If you want to think im appealing to emotion or whatever then fine. But in the end, religious people are still living a fantasy.
@JabberCT Your country, and others, need more people like you to stand up against the growing onslaught of irrationality and anti-intellectualism. Be heard.
@JabberCT Yeah never heard of them laughing at us for this reason.. So your embarrasment is on yourself. Also look at our countries history. America has been a Christian country from when it began to a few decades ago. A few decades ago our countries academics have dropped by alot. We got into debt and due to a muslim president our debt has been tripled from 5 years ago. All the great leaders in this country were inspired by God. So
@Eliot8989 If you have not heard them laughing at us over religion then you do not have any foreign friends or subs here on youtube.
"America has been a Christian country from when it began to a few decades ago"
Ummm.... no. It was not founded on Christianity at all. One of the reasons we wanted our own country was to leave behind church dominated England. And our very first ammendment separates church and state. America has never had a Muslim president. Thats a strange reply lol.
@JabberCT Every great leader in America has been Christian. The Church of England was totaly different. And in the Constiution what do you think "endowed by the Creator" means? Go to Washington D.C. and find a older monument without God on it. Also on every piece of currenc in America it says "In God we trust". Well obviously their are gonna be minorities in everything so their are gonna be people that hate America because of religion. OBAMA IS mUSLIM! He was sworn in using the quran.
@Eliot8989 Obama is not a Muslim and he was sworn in with a bible. Just go look it up. He was even baptized at the Trinity United Church of Christ in 1988 and was an active member there for two decades.
@bmehoota Where did you hear that crap? Did you see the video of him in the senate makeing fun of the Bible? And I know for a fact that he is the first non-Christian president. First president to be muslim and were in debt more than people can count.
@Eliot8989 He was just pointing out how the bible says things that modern society doesn't agree with. Many moderate Christians don't agree with with all the stoning and killing bible says we should do. Also many christian make fun of creationists and FlatEarthSociety which based their belief on the bible. Just look up Obama religion on Wikipedia. He making fun of OT which is part of Islam and Christianity.
@bmehoota You have a very small understanding of modern Christianity. The majority of Christians agree that stoning was God's law back then. If you study other civilizations from that region and time there was either just as much or more aggresive laws. The world believed in the flat earth. In the bible in suggests the world is round. That was in the Old Testament. Yes I know few or any believed that but it is there in the Bible. And mocking the Bible as a Christian is mocking your own beliefs.
@Eliot8989 There is no such thing as modern Christianity because the bible doesn't change. The only thing that changes is that most Christians choose to follow the bible less and less and cherry pick the things that make them feel good and ignore what they don't like even though in Revelations it says your going to hell if you do that, but then again they probably don't believe in That part of the bible, which is kind of funny. "God's law back then" but now they aren't, is something you made up.
@bmehoota Modern Christianity doesnt mean that you change the Bible it simply means todays overall Christians. And again I agree actually that there are groups that take things out or ignore things. Mormanism, Catholicism, etc. But however there are groups that dont take things out of the Bible. And again you need to understand Christianity before you disagree with it. The Old Testament laws of sacrificial, dietary, and observing holidays has been fufiled by Christ and thus no need to continue.
@Eliot8989 Tee hee, You have the Bible because teh Catholics put it together. it was the various Protestant sects that twisted scripture and removed books.
As for that teacher, what an absolute disgrace! Evolution is perfectly in line with Christian theology. The story (well, actually there's two) in Genesis are just metaphors to explaim to goat herders how they got there. Its not how it actually happened. Being Christian doesn't mean you have to be a dunce.
@Shenanirats I didnt mean the Early Catholics who were Christians. I meant when the Catholics fell to greed and corruption. Evolution teachs that people come from a common ancester. The Bible says God created the wold in 6 days. Read the Hebrew Old Testament. The word "Day" still means the 24 hour period. Not an era. And The Genesis wasnt just made for "goat herders" .
All religious subhumans must be euthanized before they negatively affect more Humans with their murderous lies and their book of death, the bible of death. 5 billion religious subhumans ferment into A LOT of petroleum. So I say we gather them up, hand over lethal doses of barbiturates and let them send themselves to their imaginary god concepts. Bulldoze the heap of rotting meat into a hole, GPS mark it for the future logical Humans and be done with it. I cant see an issue with this idea.
Unbelievable. It should be noted that creationism has been legally recognized as religion that should not be taught in a science class. That was in what, 1994? And they're still at it.
Fuck that school! That teacher was within her constitutional rights! She hadn't even said anything to the students about it yet!
Why should she remain neutral about creationism? It's not scientific at all! If she's a science teacher, she should be able to clarify to the students what counts as science and what doesn't, and creationism would be an excellent example of pseudoscience.
@slyfox7373 Please tell me that is supposed to be a joke. You have to be careful saying things like that. There are real people who are actually that stupid, so people might take you seriously.
@slyfox7373 "Evolution is a religion, It can be easily disproven with science." Hahahaha, you went to school in Texas didn't you! I would sue them for promoting stupidity!
@3rdgenZ Well it's definitely more common in the South and in rural areas (Dover was a rural town), where people tend to be a lot more religious and conservative. I grew up in New York state, where we were taught evolution without question.
@carlsm95 I agree with you for the most part. more related to rural areas than the south as a hole, i'd say. I am from Louisiana and I was taught evolution as well. it's just that i was brought up in a non religious home.
@carlsm95 I live in Southeast Texas and from what I've been witnessing my whole life is that a lot of the religious nuts (I'll define them to be people who'd agree that this woman should be terminated) around here came from the North (or at least the ones I've been acquainted with) and eventually return back. I admit to having a small sample though, but most of them moved probably b/c they were in the minority of their opinions and thought Texas would be vastly different.
I live in texas, this makes me so sad. Because I know that the radical right are so deep seated here that its almost impossible to make any changes, but I hope she's kept up the good fight. Also makes me fear for the credibility of my future degree.
Those that believe in gods are mentally unstable. The good news is that fewer people are inflicted with belief in the myth of gods. Let's hope that the delusion is marginalized before that crazy bastards blow us all up in a war over which version of the god myth is correct.
Notes from the civilised world: What happened to this woman used to happen all the time in the Soviet Union and other east bloc countries; I saw it myself in East Germany. In the west we tend to believe that "dissidents" were sent to Siberia. Some were for sure but by the 1970s most got the treatment that this women got. Forced to resign for things that appeared to cross the line and criticise Marxism-Leninism. Usual deal was "resign and you can keep your pension" ; refuse and we will ruin you
@CobinRain Ironically, theists point to these "atheistic" communist regimes in order to "prove" that atheism is evil. But these regimes were only evil to very extent that they behaved just like a freakin' religion. "The party is inerrant, the state is infallible". Inerrant is what fundy christians call the bible and infallible is what catholics call the pope.
@burnyourcrutch Schools are "Social education"... Marx was a communist who was pushing for socialized schools and the removal of religious teaching. What are you struggling with?
There shouldn't be any public schools in the first place. That's why i said they are Sycophants. The Marxist socialist schools were the means of taking over education and you sick little bastards are all for it.
Sycophant is someone who takes advantage through flattery. In this case by offering lazy pricks free stuff. You want free health care don't you? Dumb fucks. You don't see the pattern here?
@knowwaie Actually an educated society is much more beneficial overall, especially in a capitalism system. It is intended to to provide equality for higher education, grant basic critical thinking skills, and develop a system of community and exposure to others that widens the perception of the children, enhancing the critical thinking and making them more suitable to society outside of the school.

"It was social education that made the US successful?" Since the beginning of social education, even in the ancient world, it has been shown AS FACT that social education, excluding propaganda-missions, has improved those societies which impliment them.
"It seems like i'm hearing a lot of talk about how our education is failing and people are actually getting dumber.." Which displays your ignorance of the situation: Education is failing NOW because it is NOT educating people.

if you take biology and they don't teach evolution, they haven't done their job.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
If you draw up a high school curriculum which EVERYONE must take, there would not be room for a proper teaching of evolution. Would a student taking a vocational / shop curriculum have room for it ? I see the benefit for every student for learning about the human body, and there is an awful lot of accessible material in the Merck manual to fill a full year course on that, which does NOT introduce evolution.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer hold the vocational curriculum to post graduation, everybody with an able mind should have the same basic education in science, phyics, chem, bio. I'm still annoyed that I didn't get a physics class until college.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto Well, there are vocational tracks for high school, in which juniors and seniors learn automotive maintenance, electrical work, plumbing, etc. These people will have to take physics, obviously. Not everyone is going to become a biologist or medical researcher.

@mooninquirer what would constitute a weakness in the theory would be if you found evidence of phenomena that completely broke the rules or completely violates predictions under the theory. If this can be reproducibly discovered the theory must be modified or thrown away in favor of a better explanation.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto Well, in the court case involving the Dover school district, it was determined that it was illegal to read a short paragraph at the end of the course saying basically " we do not have all the answers." There should be nothing wrong with that. But the people responsible for the push to do that DID have a religious agenda, and THAT was why the judge ruled against it.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer it was deliberately worded to make it sound like scientists didn't have half a brain when it came to understanding religion. Scientists have no doubt that evolution occurred, so the statement was deliberately misleading, and smacked of religious intent regardless of what it actually stated. Even kids aren't that stupid.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer biology is NOT taught for the sole purpose of learning human anatomy, there is SO much more to it than that.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto Insofar as biology is a MANDATORY course, human anatomy and pathology should be the PRIMARY focus, and not zoology and taxonomy. Maybe for a RURAL area, where people would have a interest in animal husbandry, but not for inner city kids. ( lP ) The college biology text by Purves just stated that for women menopause starts at 50. The Merck manual states that as well, but gives the PROPER warning about pregnancies before 15 and after 35. The Purves text has a zoological focus
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer The purpose of the educational system is to produce educated citizens, not SOLELY to produce trained workers. To be a useful citizen in a republic you have to be capable of understanding the issues, not just voting the way your preacher or social group dictates. If early government thought that schools were there for job training, they NEVER would have made public schools (relatively) free. Vocational training should be taken after high school in place of college.

according to Christains it dosn't matter what you do in your life just as long as you accept god as your savior
if that is correct you can go rape and kill 250 poeple (men and women) and still go to heaven if you accept god
but you can spend your entire life treating the sick, feeding the poor, and even devote your life to AIDs research but you'll go to hell cause you didn't accept god

BloodSweatTiers 5 months ago
@BloodSweatTiers no offense but i used to be a catholic...

490er 5 months ago
@490er I think you kind of know how it works. God's mercy is endless, but if i just say with my mouth that I'm sorry, that doesn't mean I'm forgiven. If you do kill and rape 250 people are truly sorry in your inter most being, God will forgive you. And if you do good deeds but don't believe in God, that doesn't mean you'll go to hell, the Church doesn't say that any one is in hell. Who is to say that God wont show his mercy on those who do what he asks them to do, but don't believe him him.
BloodSweatTiers 5 months ago
@490er Well, according to Christian theology (which I don't actually believe in) everyone is a sinner, and everyone deserves to go to Hell. No matter how much good or bad you do in your life, everyone sins and "falls short of the glory of God." Even a normally good person occasionally lies, or swears, or whatever. For someone to go to heaven they must be forgiven of this by Jesus. This might seem like sound doctrine, but there are numerous problems with it which is of course why I don't believe
carlsm95 5 months ago
@490er Ummmm, you can't just go around killing and raping, and then accept god and go to heaven. You have to SINCERELY accept god. You atheists are always trying to distort things. Poe and out.

490er 2 months ago
@490er The point of Christianity is this : if you give up your ethnic / racial / tribal loyalty, you can join a new brotherhood. And your missing the point of WHY evolution is being taught in public schools ---- they WANT to promote racism and hatred. Evolution does not explain everything, such as the existence of one's consciousness, but those who push it, IMPLY that. The vested interest in pushing evolution is too great for me not to question its validity.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer what kind of messed up world are you living in???
since when does it teach racism and hatred???
490er 2 months ago
@mooninquirer A great advantage of religions such as Christianity and Islam ( but not religions based on race ) is that they promote a sense of brotherhood. The original title ( before it was shortened ) of Darwin's book, "Origin of the Species," included the phrase "favored races." And White supremacists base their belief entirely upon evolution, saying Blacks ( they call them "Negroes" with great disdain ) are in between a gorilla and a human ---- they are lower on the evolutionary scale.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer But if you believe that all of mankind are God's children, which is what Jesus taught ( for example, in the Lord's Prayer, and in the parable of the Good Samaritan, about who is one's neighbor ), that is the complete opposite of racism. Evolution promotes favoritism toward one's own race, because they share one's genes, and the point of evolution is to pass one's genes onto the future. Cutting out God, the only morality left is that of evolution ---- survival of one's genes.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
I am not saying that CREATIONISM should be taught, but there shouldn't be such a push to teach evolution. It should be assigned as OPTIONAL reading or optional extra credit, to students who want to study it. Biology CAN be taught without evolution ---- it is not as essential to biology as the periodic table is to chemistry, or thermodynamics is to physics. In fact, a more useful biology course would spend more time on human anatomy and pathology, once evolution is left out.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer Facts should be taught. Period. If someone goes through school without accepting that evolution is true they have had a great injustice done to them. Have you watched the documentary "The Secret Life of Chaos"? It's on vimeo.
pkeod 2 months ago
@pkeod No, I haven't. Thanks. I am interested in the subject of Chaos Theory. Really, topics like THAT should be taught AHEAD of evolution, along with many other things. It is a GREATER injustice to send boys to an all boys school, than to not teach evolution, because they really need dating experience in their teen age years. ( lP ) Because the public schools are so mono-maniacally opposed to ANY reference to God or religion, teaching of evolution is all the more harmful.

XGralgrathor 2 months ago
@mooninquirer evolution is the best explanation for a large set of observed scientific phenomena and paleontological evidence. It is the CURRENT UP TO DATE SCIENTIFIC THEORY, and is fairly central to understanding biology as it is currently understood, and thus it makes absolute sense that it should be taught. There shouldn't need to be a push, it should be taught, period.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto The entire agenda of the teaching of evolution is the abolition of belief in God. THAT is my problem with it. They don't WANT to get to the GOOD STUFF about evolution, like "The Evolution of Cooperation" ( very highly recommended by Richard Dawkins ! ) or "The Moral Animal," and "The Logic of Human Destiny" by Robert Wright, an evolutionists who is making an argument for the existence of God on some level. Dawkins NEVER refers to Robert Wright because of this.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto Teaching evolution to students is like teaching sex ed with Nina Hartley," A Guide to Better Cunnilingus" ( I believe that is what it is called ). It is true and useful, but the students do not have the emotional maturity. Further, I don't see any desire to explain the mere FACT that a human female cannot reproduce after the age of 35, let alone why that is the case. Evolution does provide an explanation, but this is never stated.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer So if they are not going to explain this important thing, all the students are left with is the morality of the jungle. The fact is, they do not CARE about the students learning science ----- the purpose of teaching evolution is the destruction of belief in God, it is that simple. Had I believed there was sincerity in teaching science, I would have no objection. Evolution has NO explanation for the CONSCIOUSNESS ---- even Dawkins admits that.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer "does not have" and "will never have" are not the same thing, and to treat them as if they were is dishonest. I don't know about the schools near you, but the possible evolutionary explanation for why human females don't retain the ability to reproduce for their whole life WAS discussed in my classes. The teaching of science should NOT touch on whether god exists, when doing good science, a person is obligated to intepret evidence as if there was only the physical universe
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto Did they teach WHY human females lose the ability to reproduce at 35 ( in the practical, medically advised sense, and MOST at 39 ), yet still have a life span of 85 ? In the great college level text by Purves et al, "Life: The Science of Biology --- 5th ed " it does not even say this ---- but that menopause is at 50 on average. This is VERY misleading. Most women will go through a 10 year period in which they cannot have children, but still have periods.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer Really, there should be TWO biology classes ---- one in which evolution is either omitted, or downplayed ( for BOYS ), and one in which evolution is taught ( for GIRLS, and smaller numbers of boys who have shown the emotionally maturity to handle it.) Because evolution puts REPRODUCTION front and center ( "God's Utility Function" as Dawkins' titles the key chapter of "River Out of Eden" ), female MAMMALS are the superstars of the show, and males are nearly worthless.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto OK --- I would be very curious as to that explanation for why human females not only do not reproduce their whole lives, but that it is extremely short. The reproductive life for a female chimp is 90 % of the adult life. This is very esoteric, and not even discussed in adult literature, because it is basically saying that women over 40 are WORTHLESS. By the way, that is an objection I have to teaching evolution to young males --- it is saying they are basically worthless.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer If the first conclusion your mind comes to upon learning evolution is that women are worthless, then there's NO amount of emotional and intellectual maturity that will help you. That type of mind is already diseased in some other way. It is not entirely understood why, but as age goes up, women's eggs tend to have a higher chance of fucking up during meiosis II. This is probably related to the cells remaining in the middle of meiosis for decades,
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer (the process begins during fetal development and halts, then each egg completes it once a month during menstruation once menarche has taken place until menopause occurs.) These cells appear to lose integrity the longer they sit in stasis at this stage of the meiosis and at some point in our evolutionary past we started producing all of our eggs at once during fetal development instead of producing them as they were needed during adult life. (This may protect eggs from mutations.)
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer But the evolutionary advances that lead to this did not anticipate the effects of large brains and culture that lead to greatly increased lifespan, because these processes are not themselves intelligent and do not plan ahead. For a long time is was rare for many people to live beyond menopause, and those that did, still served important roles in society in regard to helping the younger generations survive. This hardly makes them worthless, and on a population level still matters
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer It is likely, that if our lifespan continues to increase and remains so for a very long time, that you will begin to see an increase in the span between menarche and menopause, and we may even have an improvement to egg cell integrity over long periods. Unfortunately these types of shifts take a very long time to have a measurable effect and we'll likely be long dead before the change occurs enough to be provably different.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer Also contingent on that shift occurring quickly would be mates waiting longer and longer to have children. If humans continue to have children at around 18-30, then the need to evolve more stability in eggs and longer menarche-menopause span will not be nearly as strong.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer another intriguing thing about women, despite most males being able to reproduce until the day they die, women LIVE LONGER. There is probably a reason for this, having more older women around probably increases the fitness of the population.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer and frankly, outside of science class, I would be glad to see religion erased from the collective human psyche, so I really don't empathize with your paranoia at all.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@kotoroshinoto There you go ---- you are living proof of what I am saying. The people who are MOST emphatic about the teaching of evolution, and also very much against religion, and they are pushing an agenda of Atheism. That is a violation of separation between church and state. IF you are going to teach evolution, then at least say the many areas RECENTLY ( last 40 years ) where there has been a substantial revisionism ---- but they do not want to do that.
mooninquirer 2 months ago
@mooninquirer I push the agenda of athesim OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM, you paranoid types fail to understand that we can avoid the subject during class unless the students stupidly ask about god in a science class.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer revisionism? you do realize thats how science WORKS. They DO tell you that it has been modified, because modifying a theory in the face of evidence is honest science. Changing a theory in response to observation is not an indication of weakness in the overall idea behind the theory, especially when the bit that is changed is in regard to mathematical models and not the fundamental ideas..
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer also its NOT a violation of church and state. Teaching science is not teaching religion. and for that matter atheism IS NOT A RELIGION, and even if it was, or you argue that even touching on the subject is providing religious type instruction (which I don't have a problem agreeing with), then fine, it shouldn't be taught. If evolution happens to contradict your religion's particular genesis myth, that's not our problem, its yours.
kotoroshinoto 2 months ago
@mooninquirer "the purpose of teaching evolution is the destruction of belief in God, it is that simple" --- you have got to be among the most paranoid bastards I have ever met.

No offense, but if I were you I would look up "appeal to ridicule" before continuing. It's really annoying to say, "Your argument is an appeal to emotion" and then receive a response that is further appeals to emotion as if I didn't even bring up the point.
sk8teh14 4 months ago

So
Eliot8989 4 months ago
@Eliot8989 If you have not heard them laughing at us over religion then you do not have any foreign friends or subs here on youtube.
"America has been a Christian country from when it began to a few decades ago"
Ummm.... no. It was not founded on Christianity at all. One of the reasons we wanted our own country was to leave behind church dominated England. And our very first ammendment separates church and state. America has never had a Muslim president. Thats a strange reply lol.
JabberCT 4 months ago
@JabberCT Every great leader in America has been Christian. The Church of England was totaly different. And in the Constiution what do you think "endowed by the Creator" means? Go to Washington D.C. and find a older monument without God on it. Also on every piece of currenc in America it says "In God we trust". Well obviously their are gonna be minorities in everything so their are gonna be people that hate America because of religion. OBAMA IS mUSLIM! He was sworn in using the quran.
Eliot8989 4 months ago
@Eliot8989 Obama is not a Muslim and he was sworn in with a bible. Just go look it up. He was even baptized at the Trinity United Church of Christ in 1988 and was an active member there for two decades.
bmehoota 4 months ago
@bmehoota Where did you hear that crap? Did you see the video of him in the senate makeing fun of the Bible? And I know for a fact that he is the first non-Christian president. First president to be muslim and were in debt more than people can count.
Eliot8989 4 months ago
@Eliot8989 He was just pointing out how the bible says things that modern society doesn't agree with. Many moderate Christians don't agree with with all the stoning and killing bible says we should do. Also many christian make fun of creationists and FlatEarthSociety which based their belief on the bible. Just look up Obama religion on Wikipedia. He making fun of OT which is part of Islam and Christianity.
bmehoota 4 months ago
@bmehoota You have a very small understanding of modern Christianity. The majority of Christians agree that stoning was God's law back then. If you study other civilizations from that region and time there was either just as much or more aggresive laws. The world believed in the flat earth. In the bible in suggests the world is round. That was in the Old Testament. Yes I know few or any believed that but it is there in the Bible. And mocking the Bible as a Christian is mocking your own beliefs.
Eliot8989 4 months ago
@Eliot8989 There is no such thing as modern Christianity because the bible doesn't change. The only thing that changes is that most Christians choose to follow the bible less and less and cherry pick the things that make them feel good and ignore what they don't like even though in Revelations it says your going to hell if you do that, but then again they probably don't believe in That part of the bible, which is kind of funny. "God's law back then" but now they aren't, is something you made up.
bmehoota 4 months ago
@bmehoota Modern Christianity doesnt mean that you change the Bible it simply means todays overall Christians. And again I agree actually that there are groups that take things out or ignore things. Mormanism, Catholicism, etc. But however there are groups that dont take things out of the Bible. And again you need to understand Christianity before you disagree with it. The Old Testament laws of sacrificial, dietary, and observing holidays has been fufiled by Christ and thus no need to continue.
Eliot8989 4 months ago
@Eliot8989 Tee hee, You have the Bible because teh Catholics put it together. it was the various Protestant sects that twisted scripture and removed books.
As for that teacher, what an absolute disgrace! Evolution is perfectly in line with Christian theology. The story (well, actually there's two) in Genesis are just metaphors to explaim to goat herders how they got there. Its not how it actually happened. Being Christian doesn't mean you have to be a dunce.
Shenanirats 3 months ago
@Shenanirats I didnt mean the Early Catholics who were Christians. I meant when the Catholics fell to greed and corruption. Evolution teachs that people come from a common ancester. The Bible says God created the wold in 6 days. Read the Hebrew Old Testament. The word "Day" still means the 24 hour period. Not an era. And The Genesis wasnt just made for "goat herders" .

3rdgenZ 6 months ago
@3rdgenZ Well it's definitely more common in the South and in rural areas (Dover was a rural town), where people tend to be a lot more religious and conservative. I grew up in New York state, where we were taught evolution without question.
carlsm95 6 months ago

TwistedLemniscate 4 months ago

Usual deal was "resign and you can keep your pension" ; refuse and we will ruin you
CobinRain 8 months ago
@CobinRain Ironically, theists point to these "atheistic" communist regimes in order to "prove" that atheism is evil. But these regimes were only evil to very extent that they behaved just like a freakin' religion. "The party is inerrant, the state is infallible". Inerrant is what fundy christians call the bible and infallible is what catholics call the pope.

@burnyourcrutch Schools are "Social education"... Marx was a communist who was pushing for socialized schools and the removal of religious teaching. What are you struggling with?
knowwaie 9 months ago
@burnyourcrutch
Dumb fucks. You don't see the pattern here?
knowwaie 9 months ago
@knowwaie Actually an educated society is much more beneficial overall, especially in a capitalism system. It is intended to to provide equality for higher education, grant basic critical thinking skills, and develop a system of community and exposure to others that widens the perception of the children, enhancing the critical thinking and making them more suitable to society outside of the school.
"Free health-care" has similar capitalistic benefits. You are the "dumb fuck".
:P

@onijester56 It was social education that made the US successful?... It seems like i'm hearing a lot of talk about how our education is failing and people are actually getting dumber..
I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. Should we also socialize transportation? I'd pay for your plane ticket out of here.
knowwaie 9 months ago

@knowwaie
"It was social education that made the US successful?" Since the beginning of social education, even in the ancient world, it has been shown AS FACT that social education, excluding propaganda-missions, has improved those societies which impliment them.
"It seems like i'm hearing a lot of talk about how our education is failing and people are actually getting dumber.." Which displays your ignorance of the situation: Education is failing NOW because it is NOT educating people.
onijester56 9 months ago
(cont)
"Should we also socialize transportation?" Already done: Buses.
And, fyi, health-care has also been relatively socialized: Medicaid and (to a lesser degree) Medicare.
You should really know what you are talking about before you post something. Especially publically.
