I didnt feel any pain until a few hours later. I had never heard of anyone getting them at the time, I just asked my piercer if he could do it. I already had a horizontal one below my naval. Clean them in the shower and before going to bed and try not to touch them often or snag them on anything. Good luck on getting them :) I love mine!

You get a scar no matter what. I've had my hips done for 5 years now. surface piercings have a very high rejection rate and hasn't been perfected. There are several different ways to do it. Mine were not done with clamps and has a 1 inch long bar that is slightly curved at the ends.

the piercer is obviously not good at his job, you need a straight barbell with 90 degree bends in it for surface piercings. anything else will reject, i have no idea why he put those in. i kno, i have 2 surface neck piercings with the bent barbell and they are doing just fine. and no, you do not need tapers, they are used for gauging. unless you want to gauge your hips.

@neefmoo Actually the TRUTH is dermals haven't been perfected yet either and a dermal will eventually reject also even if it takes two years. The scar on a dermal is way WoRSE than the surface piercing scar. I have talked to five piercers in the Orlando area and they have all said similar things about dermals. They are still trying to get ways to get dermals to be more permanent but even when they are done correctly, the body still works at pushing it out eventually.

@kikikanniballl thats not true. the scar on a surface piercing is worse..considering there will be 2 scars on each side instead of 1. also..i have my hips done with one dermal on each side. your body wont reject them as fast and they wont get irritated or infected as easily as a surface piercing simply because the bar is straight while when you sit or bend over the skin pushes together. with a dermal it doesnt matter.
