i like star trek and the the original series i have no problem with this new version sure things are not the same and yes events are diffrent but that makes it exciting i do hope the plot is better however
Viacom, paramount, and J.J. Abrams are clueless. Gene Roddenberry would be very disappointed that his vision for humanity has succumbed to coporate greed. Their movies are just candy that will not stand the test of time. All real Star Trek fans should boycott the next movie, dvd, etc. Maybe if the bottom line is affected, they change their tune.
I dissagree. This movie simply winds the clock back so they can start all over with new stories that aren't dependant on all the "hisotry" we'ver come to know. Hopefully the next movie will focus at least a little bit on the sci-fi... But I think this time period - as in Enterprise - is more interesting. In the Next Gen era, the galaxy was beginnig to seem small, charted and all mapped out.
i thought it was excellent, i adore the original series, but i thought this was a nice alternate reality. i like kirk as not having his shit together but still being reached early enough to be molded into a hero. and i looooved spocks homicidalness. i always figured that without sybok spock wouldve ended up a total powder keg
yeah i liked that, becuase chris pine kirk was more of a fluke, whereas shatner kirk worked very hard, taught classes and earned his captaincy in a different way. still--- i like the difference. maybe they'll explore alternate kirk's youth and see if he's missing some wisdom
haha no way have u seen kirk fight the gorn; he killed him with a bamboo diamond gun! but if you mean impulsive, jump without looking scrappiness then your totally right. i getting waay too into these star trek debates :)
I am by no means saying old kirk's fights were slow paced or dull. They were fun and exciting. The old kirk was more calculative in his moves. New Kirk could show the old kirk a thing or two about taking risks. I just wish in the new movie they show kirk as more of a skilled fighter I mean it's hard to see chris pine kirk and believe he will become the fighting champ that was shatners kirk :)
yeah but being strangled by romulans isn't something to be embarassed about. It's like being strangled by spock 3 times and surviving that is a triumph of kirk's toughness. If it was old kirk he would've been chopping people left and right and judo flipping them. LOL
haha true, it seems that new spock has new kirk licked in fighting ( which happened in the original series too lol) but he'll learn ( i love the judo flips! and i love that shatner did alot of the painful looking stunts :)
haha true i love how shatner vaults things the entire time they're fighting. gotta say i love his fight in 'arena'. i love how he threw a rock at the gorn captain and it just bounced off his chest. i think chris pine can go the distance , hes a surprisingly good actor
no that doesn't make you a bad trekkie. I personally like TOS (the most), then TNG, Enterprise, and Voyager. I only watched a few episodes of DS9. It's on youtube, check out mirror darkly, archer fights a gorn and almost gets his ass killed.
This is hilarious! Great choices on clips and mixing. And I think it kind of gets to the heart of all this contention about Star Trek XI.
ST:XI violates so much ST universe framework that the original series & movies created--it really can't be called a prequel.
I wish JJ Abrams had chosen different character names, because this isn't their reality. On the one hand, the name recognition brings an element of attraction, but for those who know the ST universe, it will be such a violation.
I was hoping they wouldn't even make this movie, if they weren't going to do it right. Better for the genre to die with dignity than to live on in a bastardized form...making Trek movies for the sake of Trek, no matter how crappy or genre-raping they are, isn't a good thing.
VERY WELL SAID, RANGER!!! My thoughts exactly!!! A REMAKE is no way to go forward! I just can't understand how ANYONE who claims to love these characters could support such garbage!!!
Abrams talks out of the back of his ass every time he says something about this movie. "Appealing to fans," "honoring the original TV show" or "Staying true to Gene's vision" apparently means the exact opposite when it comes out of Abrams' pie-hole.
I've been calling him James Dean Kirk, myself, since from the stupid trailers it's obvious that their trying to make Kirk-boy into a "Rebel without a brain" type in this debacle of a filth...er, film...;-)
Haha - "James Dean Kirk" is brilliant! They've totally f'd up Kirk's character in this movie, trying to shove the "HE'S JUST A NORMAL GUY'S-GUY, GET IT?!?" down our throats every chance they can get. It's gotten ridiculous now...especially in the latest TV spot.

if you saw the new movie, alternate kirk got the captains chair 6 years earlier than regular kirk.

new kirk is missing wisdom but he makes up for it in having more high impact fight/action scenes than old kirk.

Poisonally I'm perfectly happy to wait and see what JJ's Trek looks like.
And looks like I'm one of the few ST fans who are not freaked about a different take on the show and the characters.

Oh, for SHAME. ;)
I hope for JJ Abram's sake that the ST film succeeds. Otherwise, we might not have another ST film for a long time...
