It's a great video (good song) even if it momentarily made me more depressed about Vince. Even if I might at first have wished for a different ending. Sure, Vince morphing into one of his paintings or a better world and something loved and appreciated was wishful thinking but I can see your point of his graphic morphing being more realistic and potent and doesn't let our eyes (or ayes) stray from staring at the unrelenting sorrow and magnificence of van Gogh and it's spell-binding.
And Jack I am not hinting for you to explain more. Videos and film are a different medium than paint (no joke). Also, your explanation to Ross was great and make me rethink your Van Gogh video and appreciate it and not get caught up in trying to change history.
Words imo would can lead us to understanding a photo. I guess I personally feel an artist should comment (but not give away art secrets). My photographer friend always explains a lot (even why the shot turned out good or bad) when he shows his pics online and I always try to get my own feel first but always look later for what he has written and what he writes is always cool and helpful in one way or another in interpretation or elucidation of his works.
The best works can have multiple interpretations and no one should be afraid of putting up a personal vision or expressing their own interpretation of their work. Just my feeling, as I know Diane Arbus felt it was not right to comment but imo she could have given her subjects a boost and a place to speak out and step out of the harsher lights of marginal deviants if she had explained the why of the photo and the setting and the people and even tender moments shared.
This song is one of my favorites from this album, if not from Neil Young's entire repetoire. But, I am sorry to say I did not enjoy the slideshow at all, I am indifferent to visual downers, curious if anything. For me, this slideshow has deterred from the song.
My friend Circumpunk sent me this vid. It's great. Tried to upload this song myself from the album Sleeps With Angels. They blocked it of course. My channel is American music, blues, country, early rock and roll. I think your channel is great!
Brilliant! Very interesting to see V. van Gogh's art used in this way, but, art is art. Loved the morphing and of course, Neil Youngs' music speaks for itself.
Excellent video! Special thanks to my darling Roses for sharing this video with me.
Excellent video. I enjoy the art of Van Gogh....very interesting the manner in which you have used this art along with the music of Neil Young (such a great artist) ..and the music that my dear one loves so much - just as I do. 10* Beautiful!
I wll share this with my dear one and also add to my favorites. Thank you!! Roses
@88hanimart88 Hi Annie, I am a student of Van Gogh and his life. I would love to hear what you hae to say. So many theories about him, his illness and life. Have a great day!
It's a pretty harsh video at certain times. But I had to get it out of my system. The song is very unique for Neil. He is so eclectic! Thanks 88hanimart88!
@curiousgeorge555 I am always remembering things I forgot... Thanks for this version of the song, I like it better than the published one? Anyway, you're memorable, my friend. I won't forget you.
This must be the third, or the fourth Neil Young song you have posted, Jack, that to me, are my favourite version's of that particular song ! Also a great video ~ Well done ~ Geoff
at eternity's gate . . .. is very profound . . . . you see, Vincent's dream of an art colony had come crashing down . .. his ear cut, gaugan . . . gone for good . . . . he sits in his simple chair . . . with thoughts . . not so simple? have you seen paul gaugan's chair, Vincent had purchased for him? compare the two . . paul's the expensive one . . that's how Vincent operated . . . . Christ like . . . always giving it away .. . . . .
So true switchsearch. I have even heard the argument that Van Gogh may have not been mentally ill or at most minimumly so. The thing that really put him over the edge was that he could not get the colony going and that profoundly effected him as he believed in it so strongly. And yes he was a kind soul who gave in a Christ like manner. ~cg
This is one of your best! Alas you have come back to the genius you always had. What a moving story! What a great tribute to Neil Young! The two best songs? hmmm... I still believe Change Your Mind and Trans Am are better! Thanks so much for this incredible Video!!
Well accordionreid, I'm pleased I created something you enjoy. Interestingly enough my three fave' songs on the album are Change Your Mind ,Trans Am and Prime of Life.
You're quite welcome. It's good to see there are a number of people that understand the video and appreciate it. ~cg
I do my best jmack3411. With the extra time I do have I enjoy trying my hand at this stuff. I mades this video for a specific person so It has a bent towards that. It's a compliment that some see some parallels to what Neil is trying to get across here. I believe many songs are written by Neil that capture a concept or feeling but you can't always pin it down. There are many interpretations to many of his songs. I just heard some things w/out trying to over analyze the them. Thanks man! ~cg
Brilliant video, The bass drum in the song remind's me of a faltering heartbeat ! ~ Very nice to see your great work again, Jack ~ All the best ~ Geoff
I wish love was *always* enough but i am afraid you are right. So glad you gleaned something from the creation. As I always say without Neil's inspiration none of these vid's would be remotely possible (obviously).
I'm fortunate enough to be seeing Neil this week end at the bridge show. He is a rare bird. Love his Buffalo Springfield days. "expecting to fly" is out of this world!
Absolutely beautifully done! I think all of us can relate to this song at one time or another in our lives. Thank you for sharing your vision. There is Hope and there is Love to help us through the toughest of moments. Jesus offers us that Love and that Hope! God bless.
Hey cg555...love the visualisation of this beautiful tormented song...you have picked your subject matter very well with vincent and whilst veiwing your new vid..Don McLeans - Vincent song ran through my mind at the same time....
"and when no hope was left in sight on that starry starry night.
You took your life as lovers often do;
But I could have told you Vincent
this world was never meant for one
as beautiful as you"
Neil just might have made a difference to vincent!

@jmcgraw6 To add to my comment, and perhaps with asome positive zest, I do really enjoy the choice of Van Gogh for the production.

Beautiful song.
I know that this sounds so average for a comment ...(?)
(Maybe the word 'Beautiful' has been worn out by too many people who use it without real thought ...?)
