This commercial wasn't trying to represent an overweight AA woman. It was trying to represent an overweight woman. I understand that for years AAs have been portrayed in such a way that it's making people think that we're all lazy, loud and overweight.(don't worry, your not the only one that notices). I think the point is that her collection fits all shapes, sizes and races. However, the fact that we have the instinct to pick up on such things, makes me worry about how much racism in the media

How you think the AA woman is being portrayed any worse then the other women in this commercial just because she is heavier. But if you think most women are fit (don't know why you are talking about educated since this commercial has NOTHING to do with education). The average size for American women is 16. Hardly fit.

I HATE this commericial!!! As an African American woman, we are tired of being the fat one the loud one. We are not characters and are tired of being misrespresentive in the media. I do not know these women they chose to represent me. Sofia has a body like most AA women I know. Stop stealing our lips, our asses, our sexuality!!! Tired of never being seen in a positive light. There are so many beautiful, educated AA women. Is America afraid to show us in a positive way? Makes you wonder?

The truth is I see MANY AA women that look like the one in this commercial, as well as MANY White, Latin, and Asian women that are very overweight. @bigtony10 Unless you are AA, you cannot begin to understand. Sofia doesn't look like Sophia. To clarify a lot of women are famous for big butts, full lips etc.( all very common to AA women). The media has turned AA women in to jokes and it is very confusing. You are correct most Americans are overweight but you wouldn't know it from watching tv. Most women I know are beautiful, fit, and educated. So, just looking around I wonder why that is hidden in the media.

It is the media that has shown us (AA women) from a very narrow viewpoint. It is just extraordinaily frustrating, when you only see AA women fat, loud, and angry. So very confusing. It just so happens she was used to represent a fuller figured women, which is what the clothing line is about. It's so you can feel sexy no matter your shape or size.
