  • It seems to me that Shinto provides a way of life. Whether the gods are real is rather irrelevant compared to something concrete like values. Shinto deities represent real life forces anyways.

  • Point to make: Buddhism doesn't view the material world as "evil" per say, just ultimately unfulfilling. Buddha never said it was evil, just that all things would end. Pleasure is only temporary. Hell, Buddha said pain was only temporary too, and the way to Enlightenment was to stop drawing such petty distinctions. Despite Shinto being very life-affirming and Buddhism tending to shun the material world, the two religions are actually quite compatible.

  • Your story of Ameterasu being coaxed out the cave is unlike any of the others I've heard. Were did you hear that one? I always heard Ame-no-Uzume coaxed her out... also, learn pronunciation. That's all I'mma say.

  • This is a very poor presentation. You keep saying "shintu" and you included Chinese music.

  • As men approach me, so I receive them. All paths, Arjuna, lead to me. Bhagavad Gita 4.11

Shintoism is great it allows the individual perceive God and dosent bog down the mind with Dogma etc

  • i didn't understand this religion :(

i've presentation and i don't know what i have to say , the vocabulary are very difficult and i'm an arabian person i don't know much more English

even when i road it in Arabic i did not understand it =(

    IT'S A VERY DIFFICULT religion !!!!!!!!

  • When I was in 3rd grade I created a char in a book I wrought taking place in the time period of what would be the sun gods time...I never EVER heard of this in my life until today...NEVER has anyone said the name to me in my life...I feel that in a past life I may have been this religion and based on my real life self now I feel this could very well be my chance and spiritual happiness...

  • Fuck off ignorant westernfags

why japanese region with chinese music?

    get an education racists

  • very interesting, gotta say the truth, i was raised to be a catholic... but now that im older i see the world differently, if i gotta say what religion is the best, i have to say i like this more than any other one that i got knowledge of.

  • @isgise20 I relate much to your comment buddy, but if you will let me give you a word of my personal advice, (since i was also raised catholic like youself, and now see a different point of view) dont let anyone tell you what is wrong or right, you define your own, and take what is helpfull and drop what is not.

  • @CrimsonGetsu thanks for the advice, you are tottally right, really helpful advice, thanks u so much :)

  • @isgise20 I'm happy to have influenced someone else :]

  • benzaiten=saraswathi ,influenced by Hinduism India. The word China is a Sanskrit ( cina;look up etymology CHINA)..also Chen, chan, or zen = Jhana or jhan

  • shinto "toe", "shin-toe" sorry, studying Japannese...

  • I believe everyone has a right to believe in what they want, no religion is neccesarily right and there is very little evidence that any one religion is the truth and way to God or Gods. I just find other religions so interesting to learn about.

  • This is really bad. Amateur to the point of embarrassment. Go away.

  • @Naruava every culture has its goods and bads, not only your religion is the best.

  • 4.40 proves Shintoism is false, eclipses are totaly natural.

  • How come all the asian religions have "MYTHS" but the desert abrahamic religions have truths.......totally biased.

  • @shubroto81

Wording depends on whether you believe it or not. Once upon a time the Roman religions had "truths" but now we only know of them as mythology and "myths".

  • @justtakeiteasy thank you but this is not japanese culture, this is japanese religion.

  • Beautiful religion.

  • i think the shinto religion isn't very good to women.

  • @younguy1979 The early Japanese miko was an important figure who associated with the ruling class. "In addition to her ritual performances of ecstatic trance", writes Kuly (2003:199), "she performed a variety of religious and political functions." For example, the Heian statesman Fujiwara no Kaneie consulted with Kamo Shrine miko before he made important decisions. (Found this in Wikipedia.)

  • I thought the same thing, but it may not be true.

  • @bun223

i dunno. japanese men don't treat women equally in many ways. it's kinda weird.

  • @younguy1979 I think it's changing in the younger generations though, but I still get fucked up on the -imasu -iru and other polite markers... and since I've only observed the sexism thing changing in ONLY the younger generation, I messed up at my history professor's house with his wife (they're japanese) and I guess I said something that must have offended her, and it was in English too

  • @younguy1979 (continuing my other post) she said how when she came to the States she was embarrassed because very young women here could lift things and do things that she was trained in Japan not to do, so she was literally physically weaker and could not do it... so, long story short, we were all goin somewhere, and she couldn't open the van door, and I opened it and pulled it across and made a lil muscle and said, "American Women!"and she just looked...so sad after that and it was just a joke

  • @bun223 (final one promise) and then, after that, I swear to God her husband tried to flunk me in so many bullshit ways, I had to go to the dean of the fuckin college to get my grade back where it was supposed to be... it's like.... not only does SHE feel inferior, HE feels inferior, and he resents ME for bringing that shit out, but THAT'S NOT MY FAULT!... tell the bitch to go and lift weights, and he can stop kissin white folks ass too (no offense but I'm keepin it real.)

  • @younguy1979 Well, Shinto has both male and female gods, Which other Religion do you find that has Female Gods ? Definitely not the Male biased Abrahamic Religions - Christianity, Islam or Judaism, All these three religions consider women sinners and equates them to animals..

  • @forgottenmemories63

i'm not sure about that. if u see japanese women compared to our american women.... it's not the same. american women have all equality and freedom while japanese women in their culture seems....passive and servantlike

  • @younguy1979 Well, To remind you again, American women got their freedom only a few hundred years ago. Women were treated more or less equal to men in Eastern societies, The purpose of women was just that, Looking after kids, Taking care of the house and tending to their families, This was same all over the world till 1800s. Only after the Industrialization do we see women gain rights and we think about all this.

There is a lot of difference between Western and Eastern Societies.

  • @forgottenmemories63

i see, but just because western women got their freedom till 1800 doesn't mean it's not good now. so speaking in today's terms, the japanese women are treated like SHIT by their men. it's horrible. by part, it's because of this religion. sorry chick.

  • @younguy1979 I never seen that and Women had to fight for there rights its not like Western Society men just gave it to them

  • Shintoo??? XD

  • nice job on your presentation. however, your pronunciation is a bit off. its called Shin-Toe not Shin-Too

  • Dear brothers and sisters. Please have a look at my short video titled 'To All THe People In The World'. It gives a positive message on how to treat each other no matter what religion, ideology or belief. Thank you for your coöperation :)

  • Agreed people think that there religion is the only true one but just like there are many paths when it comes to walking up a mountain there are also many paths when it comes to seeking enlightenment/salvation.

  • to all u christians who say jesus is the only way..... FUCK U! chrisitanity is a wonderful religion, but it is not the only way. stop trying to convert people to your religion!!!!! the christianity of the past was more pure and better than the fucked up christianity of many today.

  • @cakeninja13

the christianity of the past killed everybody who didn't believe in their religion.

  • Shinto seems cool, but i still believe my religion has all the answers.

  • @realist2471

it has all the asnwers for you, not for everybody

  • @jin54363 yes, i know.

  • This was a nice representation of Shinto! Thanks.

  • Thanks for sharing this video. Very intresting and informing.

  • i have so much respect for eastern religions, at least they dont try to convert like christianity and islam

  • @luscioussensual sorry but you need to know that orthodox christianity doesnt try to convert, we dont have the concept of proselytism, like protestants or catholics . So it depends, we dont come to your door and say: hey Jesus that, and Jesus so... if you wish to seek wisdom, you come alone, not bye force.

  • i wanted to learn about shinto, but if you didn't even get the music right, how can I trust anything you say, man?

  • Loved the music...amazed at how stupid people can really be..."2 things are infinite, universe and stupidity of human, but I'm not sure about the universe"...Albert Einstein.

  • I felt lik e i was taking comparative religions in a chinese restaurant

  • Fascinating, I am a Christian myself, but it is interesting to here about the Japanese religions.

  • @vanislemozartfan same here i like to know about other religions myself

  • Fascinating, I am a Christian myself, but it is interesting to here about the Japanese religions.

  • This was sent to my inbox. It's been up a few years. It's something I'd gravitate to. I do see comments on its standing as a religion, and its status and history in Japanese culture and I think, how irrelevant. What is the point in discussing that? Maybe there was some karmic or cosmic mixup and I was supposed to be born in Japan. I am in a questing period or whatever you call it, I was going to say more but I forgot the limitation of the Youtube editor. Where can I find a Shinto temple, in Cali

  • Shinto, is the best religion in the world. Not bcuz I belive in it, however, the knowledge makes much more sence than any other religion. That I have heard of.

  • @irishmckiddo great bias opinion.

  • @Naruava A sumo wrestler pushing a rock out of the way to save the earth from a solar eclipse? This makes sense?

    I'll go with Buddhism.

  • @14sJakeB190

The religion that sais that you have to beg (as a monk) to get yout food. Nice...

  • @Naruava First, not every Buddhist is a monk. Second they don't beg, they only accept what is donated to them.

Also I want to point out I mean no disrespect to Shinto, I just don't see how it's stories make more sense than all others as you said.

  • @14sJakeB190

Dude, read my comment. I wrote that "you have to beg (as a monk)." That means that my opinion of ppl sitting on the street with a plate infront of them is considered begging, not all ppl in who belivies in buddhism.

I have been in London and got a friend who has been in Buddhist temples. We both agree on that the difference of "London beggars" and Buddhist monks is that Buddhists can't sit behind their plate 24h becasue they also got school.

  • @14sJakeB190

To answer the question about "Shinto making more sense" is that their religion does not have as many "dumb traditions" as many others. But ofc the religion itself and not what the ppl said to controll others (like Christianity did during the medieval ages).

All they want u to do (today) is to visit the shrine every new year and donate some coins and maby buy a fortune note or 2. And if u want to get married, do it in their temple. It is a litle weirdish, but less than most others.

  • being an atheiest i find life is what you make it out to be and no amount of gods, praying or shrines/temples built would change that. that being said. if i had to pick a belive and atheiest was not an option i would say shinto. mainly because it makes the most sence in terms of myth to reality.and the idea of working for a better life insted of a better death and the matirial world is not evil. it seems shinto is the better religion

  • gaijins are Chinese music fetish

  • For anyone who desires the truth, please check out the scribd website that is listed on my channel.

  • Budhism does not believe the material world to be bad as mentioned in this video. They just believe that the pursuit of materialistic pleasures solely is bad.

  • Shinto is also the explanation to the all mysterious earth.

  • You shouldn't use Chinese music to explain Japanese religion.

  • y hav it narrated @ all if we're 2 ignore him? j/c

  • Shinto is a polytheistic, animistic (no human entities have souls), theophanic ("appearience of god"), pantheistic and shamanistic religion.

Write back if I forgot anything ^-^

  • so aliens came down and told them to get organized becauase they got tired of taking care of them.

  • shintoism in Japanese is SHINKYO 信教 that mean Religion of Believers. In shinkyo we believe in Nature gods or Guards for example the Wood Guard, the Air Guard, the Mountains Guard, the Water Guard etc and we believe in Izanamisama and Izanagisama Gods and creators of Humans. Ok bye and Thank you!

  • @Nusantarean=No Koran and no Islam, O.K.?

  • @Nusantarean

this is a video about shinto, not about islam, go away please

  • lol

  • L:et me guess, Shinto is Pantheistic????

  • very well done...

  • I always thought Shinto was a beautiful religion before but now I see it as magnanimous and lovely. I am a Wiccan but I usely use asian gods on my shrine. I feel alot more comfort from the Shinto and Hindu gods then the ones in Egypt.

  • Krei, you are terribly being laughed at by Japanese and Chinese, because Japanese culture and Chinese one is completely different from each other. Taking the music you use into consideration, you do not concern about the cultural difference, so it is very funny to see how you are lecturing the culture. You are the last person to do that. lol

  • Thanks for this effort. I am trying to save to go to Japan one day, and I need more familiarity with this faith.

  • @melvinbrand please tell me,people who follow shinto in japan take seriously the existence of the goddess amaterasu?or they think of her as a legend?because i watch anime but in anime the characters never pray to amaterasu and even they don't talk about her?they only say kamisama and the meaning of that word is difficult to understand to me,kamisama mean god?and if is god then what god?

  • "Confusionism" hahaha.... the narrator does sound confused. And Shinto is pronounced "Shin-toe"

Thanks for the laughs and for a worthwhile attempt : )

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • "Con-sense" lol, good video though, thanks.

  • man, go back to school

  • @ViViD4i tell me,why in some animes when characters say "kamisama",the subtitles say the meaning of the word is god?if shinto don't teach the existence of one god like christianity?i read a "kami" is more like a spirit or a god, then the translations are wrong?

  • @kyonsuzumiyakim 1. I wrote that so long ago i don't even remember why i wrote it 2. I didn't understand what you said

  • Your pronunciation is not so good.

  • This motherfucker cant read

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • Have you read Old testament? don't say anything you don't know ! Read it then tell me what you think about. I have a book explain about Hebrew and Japanes.

  • This is a Chinese music, not Japanese.

Chinese culture is very different from Japanese one. They have completely different mentality, notion of beauty and culture.

  • @sheepandgreen "This is Chinese music" Learn proper grammar cunt.

  • @Chrisguitar95 You need a comma before cunt. You're welcome.

  • @FluffyBunniesOnFire lolwut? win. lol. lol.

  • @sheepandgreen

He wasn't doing a presentation on music, though, FULL accuracy is nice.

  • the world has gone astray each one has turned to his own way , they have turned from the creator- the God of Israel and have gone after other Gods , But the creator of heaven and earth and all good things- the Almighty has sent His Son, The spirit of disobedience dwells in the majority of mankind , but when one repents , and believes in Jesus they are made a new creation , their spirit is regenerated and they are reconnected with God -read the new testament

  • i love japan ,but i want know the true beliefs of most japanese ,some say they belief in both shinto and buddhism but i think that is not very secure ,you must belief in one way ,so i also read japanese are in reality irreligious or agnostic but they only think of shinto / buddhism like a tradition ,but koreans for example ,they are more secure about they faith ,both irreligious and religious koreans ,mostly christians and buddhist

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • thank you. excellent. my in - laws practice. one thing you forgot to mention is how perosnal of a religion it is. one who practices will not boast or even explain their personal shinto spirituality....it is that sacred to the older Japanese adults. i am so thankful for your education about this historic faith. peace. thanks thanks thanks!!!!! i feel closer to my sons obachan and ojichan.

  • This video isn't all authentic. However your argument is even more problematic. In-fact it's bollocks. Just because OId Testament and Shinto Myth has similarity, it does not automatically makes Shinto=Judaism. The essence of Shinto and Judaism as religion is completely different; belief, teaching, custom, culture, ideology, belief of God and even understanding of afterlife. For example: Judaism belief is monotheism, but Shinto is polytheism.

  • In Shinto there is an expression 'Yaoyorozu no kami ' 八百万の神 literal translation is 'Eight Million Gods', but this just the metaphor expressing; Shinto has infinite number of gods. Even sardine's head can become a god 鰯の頭も信心. So as you can see, Shinto is nothing like Judaism. Ofcourse there is a possibility of Judaism influence may came from silk road or across the sea and reached into Japan later on. Some region in Japan may accepted some ideas of Judaism and adopted into their local Shintoism.

  • Like Buddhism got accepted in Japan. jokerklock has already summarised, so I quote: "Shinto isn't a religion that you would have to convert to. Shinto accepts other religions and does not condemn others for their beliefs." Talking about likeness; there is a similarity between Shinto Myth and Ancient Geek Myth (polytheism). This influence may also came from silk road or across the sea, but is this make Shinto=Ancient Greek? No, absolutely not.

  • Shinto has very unique ideology and characteristic and it is no doubt Shinto is native Japanese religion.

  • The Chinese may have introduced Buddhism into Japan but Buddhism originated in India, not China.

  • @Melizarra3 It was still China that spread Buddhism throughout Asia. There are alot of Buddhist gods isn't worshipped in India.

  • Have you read old testament? There are so many traditions that ancient Israel practiced which Shinto practices now. Shinto Priest admitted many times. If you look for the youtube about Japan or Ten tribe of Israel, you will find the answer and also I recommend you to read "Japanese and the lost ten tribe of Israel written by Dr. Marvin Tokayer.

  • @musashi331

It's all up to you to swallow all the garbage/ gossip on TV, but you should really stop challenging the audience making comment such as " Have you read old testament?". It is very unfair and pathetic way of debate. If you know your material share with us; tell us which book, chapter and verse and quote it and draw your argument. So people will know what you're talking about. I've left four comments above to disprove your argument, enjoy. Apology about upside down paragraph.

  • @musashi331

thats all bullshit, japan has absolutely NOTHING to do with israel

  • I'm Japanese and I understand about Shito more than you and your research materials are not correct and Shito didn't come from China. Please don't use Chinese back music. Shinto comes from old testament and if you really study Shinto, you know that we are the lost ten tribe of Israel which proves that many tradition and even Japanese language are similar to the one spoke in ancient Israel. Origin of Shito is found in the old testament.

  • @musashi331 How do you know that Shintoism comes from the old testament?

  • @musashi331, Are you talking about Hirata Atsutane when you say that Shinto came from Isreal?

  • @musashi331 Shinto is OLDER than the oldtestament.

  • ya know i like japanese shti as much as any other jrock/anime dork with no life lol but idk why some of you have to be such dicks about it.

do you honestly think you shouldave such a head up ur ass atttude because you waste your life watching animes no one will eaver hear about i think he did fine. he narrated that was his intention.

i learned new facts about shinto. the end

    BITCHES XD

  • Uh...guys, I don't understand. The video-maker did just fine! It's not a presentation to houses of the rich and famous! If you just listen you will see that he is probably doing work for a school project. He did a great job! You come here to watch people's personal videos and start telling them that they are speaking out of their nose and have poor cultural insights? Why watch at all? Turn off the video and go somewhere else.

Good job on your video, thank you for posting it!

  • It did not come from China. Shinto is the ancient religion of Japan, even before Buddhism. China's ancient religion is Taoism.. it is just pronounced "shen tao" in China. The two religions are very different, not to mention the names of deities and ceremonies etc. To say it comes from China would be disrespectful to the Japanese culture.

  • like almost everything in japan, it came from china, shen tao became shinto in japan

  • The real shame is, there is little or no "access" to this religion/way of life outside of Japan. I can't visit a shrine anywhere...because there isn't one here! They should expand or something, it would catch on.

  • @nicck Ermmm...becuz even Japanese dont even care too much anbout any religion.

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • you have to rinse your mouth out alot .... yeah thats a good thing!

  • it came from china

  • Consciousness is just a by-product of uniquely structured chemistry. We have the rare opportunity of enjoying it. Time should not be wasted dallying in superstitions and embracing irrational laws that paralyze life. Google Doe’s Account.

  • Shinto isn't only for Japanese but all the people. Even if you are Christian or Muslim you easily can participate in the Shinto ceremony . And it's quite different from any other Japanese Buddhism.

  • "Confusionism . . . " LOL

  • This guy sounds like he is having trouble reading... It's Shinto, not shintoo. Confucianism, not kyushanism etc. Chinese music playing... Just awful.

  • Why play Chinese music for Shinto? LOL!!!

  • Is it just me or is the way that he talks about Buddhism, sounds like he has kind of a grudge against it?

  • " mix of nature worship fertility cults divination techniques shamanism" that is all you have stereotyped shinto!!!even japanese were unable to understand the subtile hidden truth about shintoism you came with your distorted western mind to teach us

the way of kami so kami does not mean gods !!!!kami does mean !!!! in my next book i will teach you !!

  • thanks your video really helped my religion project..... A LOT!!!!!

  • Dude, correct the country and background music! Great vid overwise. Good job putting it all together.

  • It is pronounced "sheen-toe", not "Shin-two". Please, when you make a documentary, make sure you have the pronounciation down; some strong believers on Shinto may become offended by the mispronunciation. Otherwise, nice pictures. :)

  • That is some horrible mispronunciation you've got there.

  • i disagree he has excellent mispronunciation

  • And I suppose you reckon yourself an authority on the matter? I bet you've never even read Frank Kermode's magisterial volume on the subject, "Ways of Mispronouncing (1987)," otherwise you'd be utterly embarrassed to assert the uploader's "excellent mispronunciation" and spout such ill-informed, pedestrian drivel.

Stick to the little leagues, junior.

  • Funny. Background music, Japan is not the music, Chinese music.. LOL

  • After hearing the Chinese music as the intro, I am unable to take anything about this presentation seriously. Why put Chinese music with something so Japanese as Shinto?

  • Diet-es

  • con - sense

    lol

  • It is pronounced "shinto" not "shintoo", as in lock, not book.

  • @browndog1978

they be some bad examples of what you meanin

  • ghehe, i actually used this video for my introduction of my shinto essay for school^^ it made quite a nice introduction^^

    Arigatou gozaimasu^^

  • tsumari , anata ni kansha odoroki deshi ta !

  • re do the music, put a japanese song...

  • I believe in monotheistic shintoism. I believe that God isn't some old guy with a beard on a cloud, he lives in rocks, and rivers, and trees as different forms. I think that Amaterasu, Susano-o, etc are just different forms of God.

  • @vulturedot3x3 exactly, god could be the world we live on :O

  • yeah its an amazing world we live in

  • @mtplewis

Don't think everyone into Japanese culture who isn't Japanese is a weeaboo >.>

I'm white, I love Japanese culture, and hate weeaboos. There you go

  • @MetalGearNaked What's a "weeaboo" as i'm also white but like Japanese beleifs and art very much,in fact i have some brilliant Japanese art works from the19th century,so i must be a "weeaboo" so can you tell me what i am. btw does anyone know where i could go to try and decipher what is written on an old wood block print i have of a samuri.

  • @73mandala I believe that the term "Weeaboo" is meant to be a derogatory phrase that is aimed at people who are somewhat enthusiastic about Japan's culture and beliefs and so on. It's mostly used by people who think Japan is overrated and is commonly used to put down Japan fans. Don't let it get to you though, I'm also a hardcore fan of just about anything Japanese...minus the Yakuza.

  • @Honmarutatsu im interested in the yakuza.. some hard core dudes.

  • @RAIZEDBYWOLVEZ Oh yeah, 'cept they're the freaking mafia! xD

  • interesting intro about shinto

    I like

    aregatooooo ^_^

  • This is a beautiful spiritual path. Realize religion is over-rated. Whether you call it God, Yahweh, Yhwh, Allah, or the Great Computer in the Sky, makes no difference. No punishing God exists.

The name of God is whatever you choose if you choose. I know where to find God, God is all that is, nothing but God exists. This slightly conflicts with what the Christian Bible, it says that God is within. That, conflicts with what most people believe the Bible says.

  • @Kraigam

    its not "god" its Nature

  • That or people could actually be interested in japanese culture or other humanities of the world...You're only being stereotypical by saying that just because an american watches this, it is because they are obsessed with anime/manga.

  • it would be nice to have japanese music, not chinese music. But then again, it sounds like the narrator wouldn't know a chinese from a japanese restaurant. never mind korean or vietnamese. Okinawan? Fuggetaboutit!

  • @waterboardbush

I know the difference between Chinese and Japanese music, although it's quite hard to put into words. Same with their culture in general.

  • @waterboardbush

Not to mention the narrator has a drone-like nasal voice......which does not help any.

  • @waterboardbush Uh...actually a good lot of the Shinto religion was heavily influenced by none other than the Chinese. By Buddhism and confucianism. In fact the three are a great example of religious syncretism. Aside from numerous Chinese imports, the said amalgamation is but a single, for example, with the need at all for systemizing its principles and beliefs. Before the Yayoi culture, the indigenous "religion" had no name and no formal system at all.

  • The Japanese will get their Karma-the destruction and abuse of others is and will catch up with them-especially when they fail to educate their next generation on their WWII past mistake-the future will only be as good if we take careof the present-

human credit themselves as civilised and intelligent, yet we behave worse than animals on a daily basis. Majority of people are feeble-minded & get used by politicians and go into war without thinking and analysing their situatons.
