My boat is set up just like yours,,where did you get the big eye bolt that screws into the fly wheel? This is very helpful,,THANK YOU very much for your post mine has been very tight over the past couple of years and I know that I will be stranded if I dont get-er-done!

I was just under the dash of my recently purchased boat trying to figure how this all worked and getting no where decided to look on you tube and found your post. I now understand the concept of rack steering and can go ahead with the replacement. I will remember this in the future and try and pass along the favor with some DIYs that may help someone else.

Thanks for showing all the steps to changing the steering cable. We just bought a used Merc 1000, launched it and then noticed the steering is frozen, so we're doomed to follow in your footsteps. Showing us what you did has eased our fears considerably! And all the details are appreciated, too. Never under-estimate our ignorance and you won't be disappointed! A big thank you!!!!
