What a performance. It takes a true artist to get that level of intimacy and connection with the audience, then bring the house down on them with a velvet glove.
hey you tube, seriously,i wish the adverts would get lost. I wanna kill every commercial i see and hear.Pretty sure others feel the same. Other than that,Long live BB King !!!!!!!!!!!!
Typical "jazz snob" statement. Comparing George Benson to B.B. King is comparing apples and oranges. This is a master class in blues phrasing and emotion ... It has nothing to do with "impressing" anyone. B.B. plays exactly what NEEDS to be played, no more - no less. And if you think he can't burn with the best of 'em, well then, you don't know much about B.B.King ...
@GeoJ And it's simply not a true statement. I listen to A LOT of jazz guitar playing - much of it far faster and far more sophisticated than George Benson - but I love me some B.B., some Muddy, Luther Allison, Johnny Winter, and on and on. The ironic thing about xXironraiderXx's comment is that just going by my gut, I bet George Benson would really enjoy a B.B. King show, and vice-versa. And both would likely be scratching their heads over the idea that one couldn't like both.
@topdroog Fair enough, and thanks for the civil reply. I'm a guitarist, also, and listen to everyone from Hound Dog Taylor to Pat Martino ... It's ALL good. I just get a bit flustered when people start comparing different styles of playing. Apologies if I misinterpreted your statement.
@GeoJ Oh, I wasn't arguing with you, I was agreeing with you, and maybe just adding a little more on. The statement I was claiming was untrue was that one couldn't be impressed with a blues player after listening to George Benson.
i'm not the douche bag that disliked this because i appreciate all guitar music, but if you've ever seen george benson play you just wouldn't be impressed by any blues guitarist
the capitalists realized the power of music to move the soul; to move someone. That's why they use it today as their main source of marketing. Just like everything else. Something so powerful has been put on a leash and used by corporations. .... let's take it back!
@gtrDan1963 - more than opinion. To reduce sound vibration (even the ambiance of a room - which magnetic tape picks up very well) to ones and zeros (digital) kinda sucks a bit of soul out of the best performances. My cassettes (all 300 of them) don't have that creepy "clean" sound. Jack White agrees with me.
Every kind of digital stuff has a very long road to walk down 'till it will be as deep as old analog stuff: in music, in photography and so on.
Let's say the truth, many people thought, at least one time in life, they've been born with 30-40 years of late. I'm one o' them. Thinking it every day.
I have a question for you musician. Why does the sound engineering sound so much better 20 to 30 years ago compared to today I am thinking it could've just been the musicians were so much better. Any thoughts.
@frogca Hi, Frog ! Just my opinion...back then, everything was recorded in analog, as opposed to today's digital, which automatically has limiters and compression and levels things where they're "perfect", and the engineer has less to worry about...
Analog has a warmer sound and deeper tonalities, and the engineer has to make a lot more with a lot less, taking more care.
Back then also it was more about MUSIC than gimmicks. Much more integrity back then...
@frogca I think it only seems that way because only the good ones survived the test of time. I'm sure there was plenty of crap back in those days as well. Good music is everywhere, even today.
I found the song titled "Outside Help" somewhere else - I think a LIVE, don't remember which one -, though in the back oh the DVD is called "I Believe To My Soul". Anyway both fit perfectly, though I prefer Outside Help, I think it's more humorous!
1974,,,, 3 years before I left school, if only I would have kept up my guitar, I may be as good as them,,, I think not,,,lol

one of the best! I think the real name of this song is Outside Help which might explain why it's not getting the hits it should
qcveronique 1 year ago
It's a debatable point, but to me...THIS is the quintessential B.B.King performance;
The passion of Lucille's tone is matched only by the passion in B.B.'s voice...
Ron Levy's piano is a wonderful counterpoint, and "Mr.335", Larry Carlton plays a wonderful, jazzy rhythm guitar part.
That whole DVD is an amazing testament to the legend that is B.B. King !
Dan.
